TREATMENT OF ACUTE PROMYELOCYTIC LEUKEMIA WITH SINGLE-AGENT ARSENIC TRIOXIDE

Abstract: It is well recognized that arsenic trioxide (ATO) is an efficacious agent for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). Use of single agent ATO in the treatment of APL leads to remissions which are durable in the majority. ATO is probably the most effective single agent in the treatment of APL and there have been very few reports of primary resistance. It has been used both as a single agent and in combination with other conventional drugs to treat APL. Use of ATO is the accepted standard of care in the management of relapsed APL, where it is often used effectively as a bridge to a stem cell transplant. However, its role in newly diagnosed APL remains controversial. ATO probably has multiple mechanisms of action. Better understanding of its mechanisms of action/s is likely to lead to more rationale use of this agent or its derivatives either alone or in combination with other drugs. There is limited data on the kinetics of leukemia clearance and normal haematopoietic recovery after the administration of single agent ATO for the treatment of APL, preliminary data suggests that it is likely to be different from conventional therapy. There have been a number of concerns of the potential short and long term toxicity of this agent. Most such concerns arise from the toxicity profile noted in people exposed to long term arsenic exposure in the environment. With the therapeutic doses and schedules of administration of ATO in the treatment of malignancies the overall toxicity profile has been favorable. In a resource constrained environments the use of a single agent ATO based regimen is a realistic and acceptable option to treat almost all patients. In the developed world it has the potential in combination with other agents to improve the clinical outcome with reduction of dose intensity of chemotherapy and remains an option for patients who would not tolerate conventional therapy. In this review we focus on the use of single agent ATO for the treatment of APL and summarize our experience and review the literature.

A Class of Harmonic Meromorphic Functions of Complex Order

Abstract: The seminal work of Clunie and Sheil-Small [3] on harmonic mappings gave rise to studies on subclasses of complex-valued harmonic univalent functions. In this paper a class of harmonic meromorphic functions of the form f(z)=h(z)+g(z),|z| > 1 of complex order is introduced. It is shown that the functions in this class are sense preserving and univalent outside the unit disk. Sufficient coefficient conditions are obtained for functions in this class which are also shown to be necessary when the co-analytic part g(z) has negative coefficients. We also obtain properties such as distortion bounds, extreme points, convolution and convex combination for this class.
Phylogenetic analysis of the genus Anabaena based on PCR fingerprinting

Abstract: In this study, ten species of Anabaena were used to test the congruence between the traditional morphological classification system and the present molecular classification system. For morphological classification, strains were categorized into two different groups based on the whether or not the akinetes were directly adjacent to heterocysts in the trichome. Genetic diversity was assessed using the banding patterns of repetitive DNA sequences including the short tandemly repeated repetitive (STRR) sequences and long tandemly repeated repetitive (LTRR) sequences that are present in the cyanobacterial genome. The phylogenetic relationships inferred from comparison of the STRR sequences generally supported the traditional classification of cyanobacteria based on morphological criteria. The dendrograms based on the LTRR sequences did not show a clear correlation with the dendrogram based on morphology
Stability Analysis of Series Connected SEPICs

Abstract: The paper pioneers to introduce a feedback compensator network with a view to allow a stable operation of a series connected SEPIC system. It avails the role of a small signal model to predict its steady state stability and includes the use of compensators to ensure its stable operation. The ratio of its output to duty cycle transfer function characterizes its closed loop performance and suggests measures to bring the Eigen values of the characteristic equation to the left half of the S plane. The scheme incorporates the principle of average voltage sharing methodology to offer a stable servo and regulatory results over the range of operating loads. The strategy examined using MATLAB based Root locus and Bode plot analysis orchestrates its viability and utility in a practical environment.
A DSPIC implementation of a sliding mode strategy for a SEPIC converter

Abstract: This paper attempts to implement an elegant Variable Structure Controller (VSC), with a view to regulate the output voltage and improve the power quality of input current of a Single-Ended Primary Inductance Converter (SEPIC) through the use of a DSPIC processor. It aims to exploit the advantages of ease of implementation and robustness of VSC, which facilitates to produce an output that is independent of input voltage, circuit parameters and/or output load. The DSPIC card is designed to perform the function of a VSC, besides serving to generate trigger pulses for the power switches. Simulation and experimental results are presented to demonstrate the merits of the proposed approach. .
Butterfly Graphs with Shell Orders m and 2m+1 are Graceful

Abstract: A graceful labelling of an un directed graph G with n edges is a one-one function from the set of vertices V(G) to the set {0, 1, ,2, . . ., n} such that the induced edge labels are all distinct. An induced edge label is the absolute difference between the two end vertex labels. A shell graph is defined as a cycle Cn with (n -3) chords sharing a common end point called the apex . A double shell is one vertex union of two shells. A bow graph is defined to be a double shell in which each shell has any order. In this paper we define a butterfly graph as a bow graph with exactly two pendant edges at the apex and we prove that all butterfly graphs with one shell of order m and the other shell of order (2m + 1) are graceful.
A Knowledge Mining Model for Ranking Institutions using Rough Computing with Ordering Rules and Formal Concept Analysis

Abstract: Emergences of computers and information technological revolution made tremendous changes in the real world and provides a different dimension for the intelligent data analysis. Well formed fact, the information at right time and at right place deploy a better knowledge. However, the challenge arises when larger volume of inconsistent data is given for decision making and knowledge extraction. To handle such imprecise data certain mathematical tools of greater importance has developed by researches in recent past namely fuzzy set, intuitionistic fuzzy set, rough Set, formal concept analysis and ordering rules. It is also observed that many information system contains numerical attribute values and therefore they are almost similar instead of exact similar. To handle such type of information system, in this paper we use two processes such as pre process and post process. In pre process we use rough set on intuitionistic fuzzy approximation space with ordering rules for finding the knowledge whereas in post process we use formal concept analysis to explore better knowledge and vital factors affecting decisions.

A STRATEGY FOR ASSESSING THE STABILITY OF SEPIC CONVERTER

Abstract: A strategy is coined with a view to assess the stability margin of a SEPIC Converter. The small signal model of the SEPIC Converter is developed, which allows selection of control coefficients, analysis of parameter variation effects and characterization of the losed-loop behavior in terms of the ratio of its output to duty cycletransfer function. The eigen values of the characteristics equation provide the small-signal stability properties of the system. It is envisaged to incorporate an appropriate compensator in order to aid in the process of accomplishing a stable operation of the Converter. The performance is evaluated through MATLAB based simulation and includes both Root locus and Bode plot analysis to demonstrate the suitability of the use of compensator to encompass the SEPICs stable operation over a desired load range.
