The meaning of the Impact Factor
Eugene Garfield
International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology , 2003,
Tracing scientific influence
Andrea Scharnhorst,Eugene Garfield
Computer Science , 2010,
Abstract: Scientometrics is the field of quantitative studies of scholarly activity. It has been used for systematic studies of the fundamentals of scholarly practice as well as for evaluation purposes. Although advocated from the very beginning the use of scientometrics as an additional method for science history is still under explored. In this paper we show how a scientometric analysis can be used to shed light on the reception history of certain outstanding scholars. As a case, we look into citation patterns of a specific paper by the American sociologist Robert K. Merton.

Garfield, Seth;

Bayesian Analysis of Loss Ratios Using the Reversible Jump Algorithm
Garfield Brown,Steve Brooks
Statistics , 2011,
Abstract: In this paper we consider the problem of model choice for a set of insurance loss ratios. We use a reversible jump algorithm for our model discrimination and show how the vanilla reversible jump algorithm can be improved on using recent methodological advances in reversible jump computation.
Discrimination for Two Way Models with Insurance Application
Garfield Brown,Winston Buckley
Statistics , 2010,
Abstract: In this paper, we review and apply several approaches to model selection for analysis of variance models which are used in a credibility and insurance context. The reversible jump algorithm is employed for model selection, where posterior model probabilities are computed. We then apply this method to insurance data from workers' compensation insurance schemes. The reversible jump results are compared with the Deviance Information Criterion, and are shown to be consistent.

Crossing the Telemedicine Chasm: Have the U.S. Barriers to Widespread Adoption of Telemedicine Been Significantly Reduced?
Cynthia LeRouge,Monica J. Garfield
International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/ijerph10126472
Abstract: Barriers have challenged widespread telemedicine adoption by health care organizations for 40 years. These barriers have been technological, financial, and legal and have also involved business strategy and human resources. The article canvasses recent trends—events and activities in each of these areas as well as US health reform activities that might help to break down these barriers. The key to telemedicine success in the future is to view it as an integral part of health care services and not as a stand-alone project. Telemedicine must move from experimental and separate to integrated and equivalent to other health services within health care organizations. Furthermore, telemedicine serves as vital connective tissue for expanding health care organization networks.
