Fólio : Revista de Letras , 2011,
Abstract: This paper aims to analyze principles of Portuguese language teaching presented in the set of curricular guidelines (also known as the PCN) and the Brazilian Committee of Didactic Books Assessment (PNLD-2011), these documents are used as references to evaluate the Portuguese didactic books. It was discussed the ways how the official voices, represented by the documents cited beforehand, legitimate the curriculum and approaches in the Portuguese language teaching. It was also discussed the concept of the didactic book and its role in the mother tongue teaching. The literature review shows that the didactic book, on the contrary of its position in 80s, is conceived as a material which can contribute to an effective teaching. The data analysis describes the pedagogical proposals of Portuguese didactic books which have been approved by PNLD-2011.

Abstract: Deaf people face communication difficulties in health units because of the lack of preparedness of health care professionals to deal with these patients. Objective: To identify how physical rehabilitation professionals associated with a regional public unit in the south central region of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil interact with deaf patients. Method: Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 18. Results: Results showed that: 15.1% (5) of the team members did not know the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and required help in their interaction with deaf patients; 12.1% (4) never assisted deaf patients; 18.2% (6) used writing and gestures; 21.2% (7) resorted to lip-reading or gestures; 3.1% (1) spoke slowly; 6.1% (2) used mime; 15.1% (5) used the Brazilian Sign Language; 9.1% (3) did not respond. Conclusion: Most of these professionals are not prepared to satisfactorily interact with deaf patients. They use improvised strategies to assist the deaf clientele, demonstrating that the planning and implementation of regular courses in sign language are fundamental in order to assist these patients effectively.

Abstract:

This work describes the chemical composition of the essential oils extracted from fresh leaves of Lippia origanoides Kunth. and Mentha spicata L. and their antioxidant and insecticidal activities. The essential oils were extracted by steam distillation using a modified Clevenger apparatus and subsequently analyzed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The antioxidant activities were determined by the β-carotene-linoleic acid method and by sequestration of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hidrazila radical. The concentrations of the essential oils and the synthetic standard, butylated hydroxyltoluene, were 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 500 μg mL-1. Insecticidal activity was analyzed by non-preference with choice and no choice against the aphid Myzus persicae Sulzer. Gas chromatography analysis of the essential oil from Lippia origanoides Kunth. revealed carvacrol (41.51%), p-cymene (18.36%), γ-terpinene (17.03%) and thymol (4.86%) as major constituents, and the essential oil from Mentha spicata L. contained piperitona (81.18%), piperitenone (14.57%) and limonene (1.47%) as the principal components. The essential oils and the standard exhibited dose-dependent antioxidant activities at the concentrations tested. The essential oils were shown to be potential agents in the integrated management of the aphid

Nascimento, Viviam Ester de Souza;Saes, Maria Sylvia Macchione;Zylbersztajn, Decio;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032010000300010
Abstract: the objective of this paper is to study the invasions (occupation) of land properties held by the so called brazilian social movements. this conflict concerns the disputes between farmers and social movements, in which the landowners questioned the legality of the invasion for agrarian reform and compliance with the immediate mandate of reinstatement of possession when there is invasion of property. on the side of the social movements, land invasions have become the main form of pressure) to speed up expropriation processes and settlements. having as institutional landmark, the "anti-invasion law", associated with the report on properties invaded released by the federation of agriculture of the state of parana (faep in portuguese), it was developed an empirical model applied to land owners in conflict areas encompassing invasions occurred over 2000 and 2006. based on the premises of the new institutional economics and on the analysis of land property rights and private investments, this study examined the relation between the variable "invasion period" (proxy for the property right insecurity) and "land productivity level" (proxy for investment), by comparing farmers productivity before and after the invasion. the descriptive results showed important effects on investment decisions of producers and a greater complexity of the relationship between variables.

Souza, Emilia Ferreira de;De Martino, Milva Maria Figueiredo;Lopes, Maria Helena Baena de Moraes;
Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-62342007000400013
Abstract: the purpose of this study was to identify the most common nursing diagnoses in chronic renal patients using as reference imogene king's conceptual system, which describes the three systems that form the basis for her model: personal, interpersonal and social. a data collecting tool with a supervised follow up was applied to 20 pa-tients in a unit of dialysis in order to verify the patients' needs. the diagnoses were determined according to nanda's taxonomy ii. in 50% or more of the chronic renal clients nursing diagnoses were: risk of infection, altered protection and altered comfort.
Investigation of sintered cobalt-zinc ferrite synthesized by coprecipitation at different temperatures: a relation between microstructure and hysteresis curves
Teixeira, Ana Maria Rangel de Figueiredo;Ogasawara, Tsuneharu;Nóbrega, Maria Cecília de Souza;
Materials Research , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14392006000300003
Abstract: the magnetic properties of sintered samples of cobalt-zinc ferrites produced from the corresponding coprecipitate were calculated based on hysteresis curves (hc). the hc values confirmed that soft ferrites were obtained by the procedure. a possible relation between the magnetic hysteresis curves and the microstructure of the sintered samples was investigated. x ray diffraction, thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the microstructure and the phases present in the sintered ceramic pieces, as well as those of their coprecipitated tri-metallic hydroxide precursor powders. it was found that sintering of co0.5zn0.5fe2o4 at 1400 °c led to "honeycombing" of the ferrite grains and that there was no single phase in the microstructure of a sample sintered at 1400 °c. thus, a more complete study was made of the behavior of the microstructure at lower sintering temperatures, i.e., in the 1100-1350 °c range.

Abstract: minimal processing has been described as handling, preparing, packing, and distribution of agricultural products, throughout certain procedures, such as selection, cleaning, peeling and cutting, that do not affect the sensory characteristics of the products, aggregating value to them. there are some factors that limit the consumption of these products related to their shelf-life, such as increasing of respiration rate and of ethylene production, enzymatic browning, surface white discoloration, water loss and microbiological changes. this work has focused on this last factor. twenty samples of guava, mango, melon var. "japonês", papaya var. "formosa" and pineapple, commercialized in fortaleza-ce, were analyzed considering the quantification of fecal and total coliforms, yeasts and molds and searching for potentially pathogenic bacteria such as staphylococcus coagulase positive and salmonella sp. based on the results, it could be suggested the need of quality control, observing the good manufacturing practices, to further implementation of a preventive haccp system, assuring to the consumer a healthy and a safety product.
