Abstract: seed bioassays are employed to determine the stimulatory effect of various biological products on the seed germination of plants used for the detection and control of toxic environmental contaminants. the objective of the present study was to design an in vitro bioassay to monitor the quality of the final production of fitomas e, a bionutrient derived from the sugar industry and produced by the instituto cubano de investigaciones de los derivados de la ca?a de azúcar by-products (icidca), by determining rates of seed germination and growth of lettuce (lactuca sativa l.) as an indicator plant. a significant effect of controllable factors under study (fitomas e concentration in lots and replicates of petri dishes) was determined by one-way and multifactor anova analysis. in all cases, the highest values of relative germination and growth occurred at a concentration of fitomas e of 0.1 ml l-1, with a marked increase in the growth of hypocotyl (rhg), which decreased at concentrations of 2.5 and 5 ml l-1. these results can be explained by the hormesis phenomenon, which is characterized by stimulation at low doses and inhibition at high doses. for a confidence level of p ≤ 0.05, there were no significant differences between petri dishes with lettuce seeds and lots in all responses tested. the bioassay method implemented in this study was fast, simple and reliable.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study in 36 first year-medical students belonging to "Ramón López Pe a" University Polyclinic of Santiago de Cuba was carried out in September 2010, with the purpose of providing some theoretical and methodological approaches to the values education. Percentage was used as summary measure. Weakness in the students' values and in cognitive preparedness level of teachers was identified to face this challenge. Given the multifactor nature of these values, it is urgent to assess the basis of such approaches from the philosophical, sociological, psychological and pedagogical points of view.

Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2012.46045
Abstract: Groundwater is considered to be the major water resource for many areas and the only source of water in some areas in Jordan. Some of Jordan groundwater resources are presently exploited at maximum capacity and in some cases are exploited beyond there safe yield. One of the efficient ways to fight the deficit in groundwater resources is through recharging the water tables naturally or artificially. This research aimed to select the optimum sites for groundwater recharge in the Azraq Oasis area/Jordan through the use of GIS techniques. The selection criteria were based on slope, drainage density, lineament density within the study area. The adopted selection technique was the Boolean techniques (Multiplication) within a Raster GIS. Thirty five sites were selected within the study area with areas vary between 5.2 ha to 273.5 ha. The total area that has the potential for groundwater recharge is 1659.5 ha which represents ca. 3.55% of the study area.
Nano-Coating Process for Si [1 0 0] Wafer Using Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet (APPJ)  [PDF]

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2012.39136
Abstract: Three-electrode plasma jet system consisting of a perforated dielectric tube with two outer and one floating inner electrodes was developed and employed for nano-coating processes of Si [1 0 0] wafer. Lowered gas breakdown voltage, increasing plasma density and increased discharge current were achieved by using the floating inner electrode. The low temperature (Nonthermal) Atmospheric Pressure Plasma protective coating technique using precursor-containing gases (Ar, O2 and OMCTS mixture) which injected into Plasma Jet (APPJ), there are several techniques are introduced here to avoid substrate damage including increasing plasma density without increasing the kinetic energy of the ion bombardment. Furthermore some few precautions are given here to insure good media for silicon wafer prepared for coating.

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2015.68120
Abstract: The influence effect of different holes per inch on the plasma parameters and particle growth has been studied by compression between two different gap Aluminum meshes of 3 mm width, and 8 holes per inch (8 h/in) and 0.3 mm width and 20 holes per inch (20 h/in) at very low pressure. The perforated aluminum mesh with small diameter holes 20 h/in shows a better glow discharge stabilization than mesh with large diameter holes 8 h/in. For both 20 h/in and 8 h/in, sharp axial decrements for electron Temperature (Te), where Te decreased from 5.2 to 3.8 eV for 8 h/in, from 2.75 to 1.8 eV for 20 h/in. In contrast sharp axial increments for electron density (Ne), whereas Ne increased from 0.9 × 109 to 20 × 109 cm-3 for 8 h/in and from 8 × 109 to 42 × 109 cm-3 for 20 h/in. Silicon wafer [100] was exposed directly behind the meshes to realize nano-particle growth in sputtering discharge, where there are two different particles shapes: spherical shape particles produced by 20 h/in, and filamentary-shaped fractal particles formed by 8 h/in. The particle radius growth for 20 h/in was in the range of 4.67 - 301 nm during exposure time 40 - 95 min, and for 8 h/in were in the range of 9.2 - 28.8 nm during exposure time 60 - 95 min.
Modelling Surface Water Susceptibility to Pollution Using GIS  [PDF]
Rida Al-Adamat
Journal of Geographic Information System (JGIS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jgis.2017.93018
Abstract: This research is an attempt to develop a new GIS index to investigate the surface water susceptibility to pollution (SWSi). In this index, the Weighted Linear Combination techniques within GIS environment was used to calculate the overall surface water susceptibility to pollution scores based on using 6 factors. The model includes 3 natural factors: gradient slope, distance to surface water and soil. Also, it includes 3 man-made activities: urban, agriculture and roads. Each factor was given the appropriate weight and ratings and then the final index was calculated using GIS techniques. The final results showed that the study area (1235 km2) could be classified into low susceptibility with an area of 250 km2 (20.2%), moderate susceptibility with an area of 815.5 km2 (66%), high susceptibility with an area of 166.2 km2 (13.5%) and very high susceptibility with an area of 3.3 km2 (0.3%).
