Hypothyroidism in Noninterferon Treated-HCV Infected Individuals Is Associated with Abnormalities in the Regulation of Th17 Cells

Abstract: HCV-Ag-specific TH17 cells secrete IL17, a cytokine involved in autoimmune diseases and regulated by IL10 and TGF-b. 5–12% of patients with chronic HCV infection have hypothyroidism. We evaluated the role of these cytokines in this patients by determining serum concentration of TsH, T3, free T4, IL2, IL10, IL12, IL17, TGF-b, anti-TG, TPO, CCP, GBM, and cardiolipin antibodies in 87 chronically noninterferon treated HCV-infected patients. 20 patients (group A) had elevated TsH values (>5? UI/ml) whereas the remaining 67 (group B) had normal values. The percentage of anti-TPO, TG, GBM, and cardiolipin antibodies in group A patients (33%, 41%, 5% and 5%, resp.) as well as IL17, IL2 and TGF-b concentrations ( pg/ml, pg/ml, and pg/ml, resp.) were significantly higher than group B. Abnormal Th17 regulation mediated by IL-2 and low TGF-b concentrations is associated with hypothyroidism in chronically-infected HCV patients. 1. Introduction There is ample evidence showing that 7–11% of HCV-infected children and adult individuals have thyroid dysfunction, mainly subclinical hypothyroidism, prior to the initiation of treatment [1, 2]. The association between autoimmune thyroiditis in HCV-infected patients, in particular in subjects with HCV-related mixed cryoglobulinemia, has also been confirmed [3]. Once combined pegIFNalpha2b + ribavirin therapy is initiated, the percentage of patients with thyroid dysfunction goes up to 15–20% [4]. Immunological mechanisms at the origin of this thyroid dysfunction are presumed but the precise mechanism still is unknown. IL-17A, a proinflammatory cytokine, is secreted by the CD4+Th17 cells [5]. It is involved in some organ-specific autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, and even organ allograft rejection [6–9], among many others. The main function of IL-17-secreting T cells is to mediate inflammation, by stimulating production of inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-a, IL-1b, IL-6, and inflammatory chemokines that promote the recruitment of neutrophils and macrophages [10]. Initial evidence suggested that human Th17 cells were regulated by CD4+25+FoxP3+ regulatory T cells, but recent evidence suggests an alternative regulatory mechanism mediated by IL-10 and TGF-b [11, 12]. Ag-specific Th17 cells are induced in HCV-infected patients, but the HCV-NS4 protein also induces the secretion of IL-10 and TGF-b by monocytes [13]. Abstract: the conditions for propagation of accelerating waves in a general nonlinear thermoelastic micropolar media are established. deformation of micropolar media is described by the time-varying displacement vector r(t) and tensor of microrotation r(t) at each point. we call a surface s(t) an accelerating wave (or a singular surface for a solution of the dynamic problem for the medium) if the points are points of continuity of both r(t) and h(t) and their first spatial and time derivatives while the second spatial and time derivatives (acceleration) of r(t) and h(t) have jumps on s(t) (meaning that their one-sided limits at s(t) differ). so s(t) carries jumps in the acceleration fields as it propagat es through the body. in the thermomechanics of a micropolar continuum, similar propagating surfaces of singularities can exist for the fields of temperature, heat flux, etc. we establish the kinematic and dynamic compatibility relations for the singular surface s(t) in a nonlinear micropolar thermoelastic medium. an analog of fresnel--hadamard--duhem theorem and an expression for the acoustic tensor are derived.

Las deformaciones del medio micropolar son descritas por las variaciones temporales del vector de desplazamiento r(t) y del tensor de microrotación r(t) en cada punto. Llamamos una superficie S(t) a una onda acelerada (o superficie singular para la solución del problema dinámico del medio) si los puntos son puntos de continuidad de r(t), H(t) y sus primeras derivas espaciales y temporales, mientras que las segundas derivadas espaciales y temporales tienen saltos en S(t). Entonces S(t) transporta los saltos en los campos acelerados cuando se propagan en el cuerpo. En la termomecánica de un continuo micropolar, superficies de propagación similares pueden existir para los campos de temperatura y de flujo de calor. Establecemos las relaciones de compatibilidad cinética y dinámica para las superficies singulares en un medio micropolar termoelástico no lineal. Un análogo del teorema Fresnel--Hadamard--Duhem y una expresión para el tensor acústico son establecidos.
Complex modes of vibration due to small-scale damping in a guitar topplate

Abstract: Modal analysis is one of the preeminent methods used by scientists and engineers to study vibrating structures. The frequency responsefunctions obtained through this method, are, in general, complex-valued. There is, however, no agreed-upon interpretation given to thereal and imaginary parts of these functions, even though it is acknowledged that their relative magnitude for different frequencies is relatedto the behaviour of the corresponding modes. A simple model is deduced to describe the shape of the spectrum associated with afinite-length time-signal. There is very good agreement between results obtained using this model and numerical results obtained for,in this case, the vibration of a guitar top-plate using finite element methods. One interpretation of the relative magnitudes of the real and imaginary parts of the frequency response functions is advanced. It is found that stationary-wave behaviour is associated with the dominance of the real or imaginary part; traveling-wave behaviour, on the other hand, occurs when the real and imaginary parts are of the same order of magnitude, as long as the scale of damping is large enough and resonance peaks in the spectrum are close enough.

Abstract: In the last decade the federal government has developed projects with alternative mechanisms to the traditional way of financing in order to offer quality services and infrastructure that the traditional schemes could not provide in an efficient and timely manner. The aim of this paper is to analyze the coherence, consistency, ambivalence or ambiguity of the legal concept of Public Private Partnerships (PPP), from the legal logic of economic principles in constitutional law and the link with human rights, and transparency in public spending. Its main premise is that the State has an obligation to guarantee fundamental rights. It is a descriptive study of transactional cutting with legislative methodology. As a result of the study it is important to understand that a new analysis of the Public Private Partnership Act is necessary to learn about its effectiveness, or if appropriate, to determine the State’s obligation when making Public Private contracts with economic entities that do not comply with the social order, acting in detriment of the citizens.
The image of the Late-Francoist Spain in the films of Manolo Escobar

Abstract: As part of a research project that examines the 200 most popular films during the Late-Francoist Spain, this article offers a qualitative analysis of the ten films that were produced from 1966 and 1975 and were starred by the actor and singer Manolo Escobar, who was the most profitable artist of that time and delivered the most explicit messages. The analysis focuses on the values, ideas and beliefs transmitted by these films, which were presented to the public as just entertainment but were in essence ideological vehicles. The male dominance, the subservience of women, the exploitation of other Celtiberian issues that had relevance at that time, the glorification of the all things Spanish when in presence of foreignness are some of the characteristic features of these musical comedies whose happy endings suggested that success was within the reach of anyone who complied with the prevailing codes of conduct of the late-Francoist Spain.
La imagen de la Espa a tardofranquista en las películas de Manolo Escobar

Abstract: Nos acercamos al cine popular del tardofranquismo, del que estudiamos las 200 películas más taquilleras. Para este artículo analizamos, bajo técnicas cualitativas, el ciclo de filmes protagonizados entre 1966 y 1975 por el actor y cantante Manolo Escobar, al ser el más rentable económicamente y el más explícito en cuanto a sus mensajes. Pretendemos estudiar la transmisión de valores, ideas y creencias en este tipo de cine, que a priori se esconde bajo la fórmula del entretenimiento pero que en el fondo es un vehículo ideológico, como quedará demostrado. La preeminencia del macho, el servilismo de las mujeres, la explotación de otros tópicos celtibéricos del momento o el ensalzamiento de lo espa ol hacia lo foráneo son algunas de las constantes de estas comedias musicales cuyos finales tranquilizadores concluían que el éxito estaba al alcance de cualquiera que acatara los códigos de conducta imperantes en la Espa a tardofranquista.
Evolutionary effects of rotation in massive stars and their circumstellar medium

Abstract: massive main sequence stars are fast rotators [1] but most of up to date evolutionary stellar models do not take account this important physical process. stellar rotation affects the massive stellar evolution due to the rotationally induced mixing processes, the increase of mass loss rates, etc. [2] and stellar rotation also affects the circumstellar medium due to stellar wind interaction. the parameters of stellar wind depend on stellar luminosity, mass, radius and metallicity so the wind parameters change as the star evolves coupling the evolution of circumstellar medium to the star itself. in this work we used the stellar code stern to investigate the evolution of a 29 m massive star with solar composition including rotation and no-rotation with the same input physics, in order to study the effect of rotation in stellar evolution and their circumstellar medium. we observe that rotating star develops a wolf-rayet phase whereas the non-rotating star does not. we use the output of stellar code as inner boundary conditions in the hydrodynamical code zeus-3d to simulate the dynamical behavior of circumstellar medium around each star. as consequence of evolutionary changes induced by rotation the pre-supernova circumstellar medium is quite different for the same progenitor mass.

New environment-friendly and cost-saving fertiliser recommendation system for supporting sustainable agriculture in Hungary and beyond

Abstract: In the current economic situation the former, intensive fertiliser recommendation system is unfit to help Hungarian farmers in their fertilising practice. The aim of the new system has been to apply the lowest possible NPK rates required to achieve safe and high yields as well as allowing minimal agricultural NP losses to surface and subsurface waters. The new system was developed by using the correlations revealed by analyzing the results of long-term fertilisation experiments set up in Hungary between 1960 and 2000. Several field experiments as well as comparative analyses confirmed the correctness of the basic principles as well as of the methods of calculating fertiliser rates of the new system. An estimated amount of 3,200,000 € was saved for the Hungarian farmers in 2007 alone by giving recommendations for more than 160,000 ha arable land applying the new system.
