A Probabilistic Approach for Spring Recession Flows Analysis  [PDF]

Open Journal of Modern Hydrology (OJMH) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojmh.2015.52002
Abstract: Spring recession flows are analyzed from a Bayesian point of view. Two general equations are derived and it is shown that the classical formulas of recession flow are particular cases of both equations. It is shown that most of the recession equations reflect a non-Markovian process. That means that the groundwater storage exhibits a memory effect and that there is a nonlinear relationship between flow and storage. The Bayesian approach presented in this paper makes it possible to give a probabilistic meaning to recession flow equations derived according to a physical approach and can be an alternative to the study of complex reservoir for which the physical processes governing recession flow are unclear. Twelve spring recession flow series are analysed in order to validate the probabilistic approach presented in this paper and a conceptual model of storage-outflow is proposed.
Impact of Global Warming on Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) Relationship of Precipitation: A Case Study of Toronto, Canada  [PDF]

Open Journal of Modern Hydrology (OJMH) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojmh.2016.61001
Abstract: Annual maximum rainfall intensity for several duration and return periods has been analyzed according to the Gumbel distribution. The Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curves before and after 1980 have been computed and compared. For the city of Toronto, it is shown that the rainfall intensities after 1980 are lower than those from before this date. This is especially clear for those of short duration. Comparing our results with those of other authors, it appears that, for the moment, no general law on the impact of global warming on the curves intensity duration frequency cannot be made. It appears that the impact of global warming on rainfall varies with geographic location and that it is not possible to draw some general conclusions across the planet.

Resonancia magnética funcional
Medicina (Buenos Aires) , 2007,
Abstract: functional magnetic resonance imaging (fmri) is a non-invasive functional brain mapping technique ased on blood oxygenated level dependent signal (bold). it is obtained during t2* weighted imaging mri studies. fmri aids in the localization of language and motor function for patients candidates for epilepsy surgery, and has up to a 90% concordance with wada test. even though synchronous recording of fmri and eeg is technically challenging, it shows a discordant pattern of activation when compared with eeg or electrocorticography. this finding could be due to complex epileptic networks, and overall this study technique has the potential to contribute to further research into epileptic network and epilepsy physiopathology.
YouTube and the spoof culture on the internet VIDEOTRASH: o YouTube e a cultura do "spoof" na internet
Erick Felinto
Galáxia , 2009,
Abstract: The exponential expansion of the Internet as a databank has favored the preservation and diffusion of information traditionally considered expendable or of little cultural value. Private videos, independent productions, photo albums or schoolwork represent just a few examples of the type of material that is multiplying through cyberspace. according to david Shenk (1997), this excess of "unimportant" information cre- ates a kind of "datasmog" that is difficult to analyze and unheard of in the history of mankind, heretofore characterized essentially by a paucity of information. What stands out within this growing production of content is a practice known as "spoofing", i.e., virtually infinite parodic variations of widely known media products such as TV commercials and television series. The goal of this work is to outline a possible theory of "digital trash", based on the observation of the characteristics of spoofs on websites such as YouTube. Spoofing is also analyzed here in the context of the various poetics that pertain to the contemporary culture of technology. a expans o exponencial da internet como banco de dados tem favorecido a preserva o e difus o de informa o tradicionalmente considerada como descartável ou de pouco valor cultural.

Palavras-chave imaginário, tecnologia, comunica o, cibercultura, mito Abstract The article investigates the transformations underwent by the concept of imaginary throughout history and elaborates a definition for the notion of technological imaginary. By means of this notion, it analyzes cyberculture's discourse and denounces its contamination by a religious longing for transcendence. Lastly, it suggests a critique of cyberculture's utopist myths, which are interpreted as a process of fetishization of technology. Key words imaginary, technology, communication, cyberculture, myth
Palavras-chave: Pós-humanismo; internet; comunica o; cibercultura Abstract: Communication of the automatons: about the imaginary of post-humanism on the internet — The Internet is fast becoming a vast communicational space of undefined and extremely open borders. Beside other traditional communication media such as television and radio, the Internet has become a privileged locus for the analysis of social representations and the imaginary that characterizes contemporary culture. The main purpose of this paper is to describe how the topic of posthumanism — one of the main themes of Cyberculture — is manifested within the domain of the World Wide Web. Another objective of this investigation is to identify the importance of this topic for the technological civilization, as well as the reasons for its relevance in reflections about communication in contemporary culture. Keywords: Posthumanism; Internet; communication; cyberculture
