Smoking Enhances Risk for New External Genital Warts in Men
Dorothy J. Wiley,David Elashoff,Emmanuel V. Masongsong,Diane M. Harper,Karen H. Gylys,Michael J. Silverberg,Robert L. Cook,Lisette M. Johnson-Hill
International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health , 2009, DOI: 10.3390/ijerph6031215
Abstract: Repeat episodes of HPV-related external genital warts reflect recurring or new infections. No study before has been sufficiently powered to delineate how tobacco use, prior history of EGWs and HIV infection affect the risk for new EGWs. Behavioral, laboratory and examination data for 2,835 Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study participants examined at 21,519 semi-annual visits were evaluated. Fourteen percent (391/2835) of men reported or were diagnosed with EGWs at 3% (675/21,519) of study visits. Multivariate analyses showed smoking, prior episodes of EGWs, HIV infection and CD4+ T-lymphocyte count among the infected, each differentially influenced the risk for new EGWs.
Analysis of Characteristic of Free Particles: Relativistic Concept  [PDF]
Emmanuel I. Ugwu, Daniel Ugadu Onah, D. Oboma, V. O. C. Eke
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2012.310176
Abstract: A linear Hamiltonian in spatial derivative that satisfies Klein-Gordon equation was used starting from energy momentum relation for free particle was solved in agreement with the matrices and bearing in mind their suitability in terms of anticommutation relations in parallel with the definition of algebraic matrices whose hermicity is fulfilled by i += i and += and in turn linked up to explicit representation of the Dirac matrices. The wave packets of plane Dirac wave obtained as a superposition of plane wave yielding a localized wave function was normalized considering only positive energy of plane wave in which the expectation value with respect to the wave packet resulted from 2p/E>+=<(vgr)> was found to agree with the Ehrenfest theorem in relation to Schrodinger theorem as it relates to true velocity of single particle. A comparison was made between the classical concept with Heisenberg representation from where the combined effect of the positive and negative energy components was considered.
Is there any progress in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease?
Emmanuel A Tsochatzis,George V Papatheodoridis
World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pharmacology and Therapeutics , 2011,
Abstract: Despite the fact that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its severe clinical form, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, are becoming increasingly prevalent in the industrialised countries, there are no licensed pharmacological treatments for them. Weight loss and life modifications, antioxidant therapies and insulin-sensitising agents are the current treatment strategies and have all been tested with inconclusive results. Low sample numbers, inadequate treatment duration and invalid surrogate markers for treatment response might all account for these results. As NAFLD is a systemic rather than a liver disease, future trials should address the patient as a whole and also address cardiovascular risk factors.
A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SIMULATION AND TIME SERIES MODEL IN QUANTIFYING BULLWHIP EFFECT IN SUPPLY CHAIN
Emmanuel Olateju Oyatoye,T. V. O. Fabson
Serbian Journal of Management , 2011,
Abstract: Bullwhip (or whiplash) effect is an observed phenomenon in forecast driven distribution channeland careful management of these effects is of great importance to managers of supply chain.Bullwhip effect refers to situations where orders to the suppliers tend to have larger variance thansales to the buyer (demand distortion) and the distortion increases as we move up the supply chain.Due to the fact that demand of customer for product is unstable, business managers must forecast inorder to properly position inventory and other resources. Forecasts are statistically based and in mostcases, are not very accurate. The existence of forecast errors made it necessary for organizations tooften carry an inventory buffer called “safety stock”. Moving up the supply chain from the end userscustomers to raw materials supplier there is a lot of variation in demand that can be observed, whichcall for greater need for safety stock. This study compares the efficacy of simulation and Time Series model in quantifying the bullwhipeffects in supply chain management.
Increased Prevalence of Severe Rheumatic Heart Disease Requiring Early Valve Replacement Surgery and Fragmented Germ Cells  [PDF]
Elizabeth Jeya Vardhini Samuel, Ramesh  , K. B. Latha, K. V. Lalitha, Peter Prashanth, Bosco Emmanuel
International Journal of Clinical Medicine (IJCM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ijcm.2014.521177
Abstract:
Background: Patients requiring valve replacement at a younger age, for rheumatic heart disease was apparently increasing after the new age practice of contraception. Methods: In 2012, data of patients referred to tertiary care hospital from two cardiology screening camps conducted in the community, were analyzed for the severity of presentation of rheumatic heart disease and associated contraception status by dividing into the three age groups—20 - 35 years, 36 - 50 years, >51 years; ~400 patients attended the camps; 31 female and 2 male patients were referred to the tertiary care hospital for further evaluation and categorized treatment, including valve replacement surgeries; among the 33 referred patients, belonging to the three age groups, the data were analyzed for [if any] correlation of contraception status with severe rheumatic heart disease. 8 randomly chosen males, of the 3 age groups, from a different community, whose life partners had undergone sterilization, were assessed for their serum testosterone levels. Results: Among 20 - 35 years, 7 female patients with contraception required valve replacement surgeries [p < 0.0005]; among 36 - 50 years, 20 female patients required valve replacement surgeries [p < 0.0005]; whereas among >51 years, 3 female and 2 male patients without contraception received medical treatment only [p < 0.0005]. Conclusion: Concept is contraception with smashed fragmentation of germ cells, consequent reduced endogenous estrogen and androgen leading to defaulted genomic repertoire, deranged cell metabolism and increased tendency for fibrosis has resulted in increased prevalence of severe valve disease in younger age itself, requiring valve replacement.
Quintessence and phantom cosmology with non-minimal derivative coupling
Emmanuel N. Saridakis,Sergey V. Sushkov
Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.81.083510
Abstract: We investigate cosmological scenarios with a non-minimal derivative coupling between the scalar field and the curvature, examining both the quintessence and the phantom cases in zero and constant potentials. In general, we find that the universe transits from one de Sitter solution to another, determined by the coupling parameter. Furthermore, according to the parameter choices and without the need for matter, we can obtain a Big Bang, an expanding universe with no beginning, a cosmological turnaround, an eternally contracting universe, a Big Crunch, a Big Rip avoidance and a cosmological bounce. This variety of behaviors reveals the capabilities of the present scenario.
Pierre Mendès France, French Security Politics, and the European Defense Community  [PDF]
Emmanuel Konde
Open Journal of Political Science (OJPS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojps.2013.31004
Abstract:

This paper examines the role of Pierre Mendès France in the decision of the French National Assembly to reject the European Defense Community (EDC) proposed by René Pleven in October 1950 and signed by the [Antoine] Pinay government in 1952. Since the signing of the EDC treaty in 1952, successive governments of the Fourth Republic delayed action on ratification of the treaty until 1954 when Mendès France assumed the office of prime minister and, acting against conventional wisdom, forced the National Assembly to vote on it. The EDC was a collective attempt by western European powers, with the full support of the United States, to counterbalance the overwhelming conventional military ascendancy of the Soviet Union in Europe by forming a supranational European army. This collective security plan had its origins in the French government of René Pleven in 1950. Why the French signed the treaty establishing the EDC two years later in 1952, and then rejected it in 1954 after four years of debate, is of central concern to this paper, which explores the intersection and interplay of various factors that contributed to the negative French vote.

Rethinking Leadership Theories  [PDF]
Emmanuel Mango
Open Journal of Leadership (OJL) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojl.2018.71005
Abstract:
Leadership is governed by over 66 theories which leaves many leaders and leadership scholars searching for an inclusive leadership theory. The existence of too many leadership theories obstructs progressive practice and research of leadership, hence there is need for leadership theory consolidation. This paper is an attempt to integrate leadership theories. The integration efforts are based on representative leadership theories and the review of the wider relevant leader-ship literature. Initially, the integration was to be built around 66 leadership theories but with further study 44 theories were eliminated to avoid either repetition or miniature issues and it was established that the 22 leadership theories are a good representation of the concepts captured in leadership theories. The review of the 22 leadership theories was enriched with insights from the wider leadership literature. The review and synthesis of leadership theories and the wider relevant leadership literature revealed that leadership is built on six (6) foundational domains, namely: character, characteristics, people practices, institutional practices, context and outcomes (CCPICO). The six domains occasioned the development of an integrative leadership model: ethical and effective leadership (EEL). As a consequence of the EEL model, one, the EEL subdomains are highlighted, two, leadership development based on EEL model is proposed, three, leadership definition that is in line with EEL model is suggested.
Beyond Leadership  [PDF]
Emmanuel Mango
Open Journal of Leadership (OJL) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojl.2018.71007
Abstract:
The crisis of leadership, like other crises in most critical human endeavours, is not occasioned by lack of definitive theories or knowledge, it is elicited by failure to put the existing theories and knowledge into practice. Besides, the assumption advanced by most of the proponents of leadership theories, that by revealing to leaders what leadership is and what leaders should do, then inevitably the leaders will utilize the acquired knowledge and skills to impact their followers and the society, does not stand the test of scrutiny. There is a gap between leadership knowledge and practice, meaning that there are missing elements which translate leadership theories, knowledge and skills into impact. This paper (beyond leadership) seeks to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice. Beyond leadership answers the question, why are some people (leaders) more ethical and effective than other? The paper proposes and discusses 7 elements (purpose, conviction, moral authority, passion, commitment, courage and learning) which distinguish impactful leaders from the rest. Many more elements may be needed on the leadership journey but without the 7 elements of beyond leadership, any other additional element may not matter much.
Capital Flows, Trade and the Role of the Financial System  [PDF]
Emmanuel Amissah
Modern Economy (ME) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/me.2018.99099
Abstract: In this study, we examine the crucial role played by financial development in the relationship between trade and capital flows. We examine this relationship for 130 countries from 1980 to 2005 for different types of capital flows. We show that the relationship depends on the type of capital flows and the level of financial development. We observe a positive interaction between trade liberalisation and financial development for portfolio flows. In the case of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment), we observe an insignificant relationship. The FDI flows bypass the financial system as it flows into such countries because of other factors as side the level of the financial development.
