Over the last decade, the concepts of corporate responsibility and the notion of sustainable development have been widely disseminated both in the circles of both researchers and professionals in management. The purpose of this paper is to propose some elements of clarification with regard to these two concepts and in relation to the current context. This article includes three parts. First, it introduces a historical and conceptual evolution of the concept of corporate responsibility. Second, it maps an explanation of the current spread of this concept and identifies the linkages between dimensions of sustainable development and corporate responsibility. Integrating Sustainability in Management Education
Emmanuel Raufflet
Humanities , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/h2040439
Abstract: Over the last decade, numerous modules, courses, and programs in Management Education have integrated sustainability into their curricula. However, this “integration” has translated into very diverse forms and contents. This article aims to clarify these ambiguities. It maps four forms of sustainability integration in Management Education. These four distinct forms are (1) discipline-based integration, in which the anchoring point is the business discipline (sustainability is added as a dimension of this body of knowledge); (2) strategic-/competitive-based integration, in which the anchoring point is the strategy of the organization (sustainability is viewed as a potential contributor to the firm’s competitive advantage); (3) integration by application, in which managerial tools and approaches from business disciplines are applied so as to contribute to addressing a sustainability challenge; and, last, (4) systemic integration, in which the anchoring point is a social-ecological-economic challenge defined from an interdisciplinary perspective. Implications of this chapter for the design of courses and programs and the practice of sustainability in Management Education are twofold. First, this article contributes to going beyond the prevailing tendency of studies in the field of sustainability in Management Education to focus mainly on tools and applications. In doing so, this article helps frame these challenges on the level of course and program design. Second, this article helps management educators map what they are intending to achieve by the integration of sustainability into the Management Education curriculum.
Desviación positiva y responsabilidad social empresarial (RSE): La experiencia de Ethos en Brasil
Aguilar-Platas,Alam; Raufflet,Emmanuel;
Innovar , 2010,
Abstract: this research article analyzes the founding and expansion of the instituto ethos, a nonprofit organization that has helped to create and develop the necessary infrastructure to promote corporate social responsibility (csr) in brazil. from 1998 to 2008, the instituto ethos has brought together more than 1200 small, medium and large companies in brazil to help them manage their businesses in a more socially responsible way. these companies currently represent approximately 35% of brazil's gdp and employ around 2 million people. the results of this research suggest that ethos has been able to disseminate csr by applying a perspective based on the use of positive deviation in the brazilian business world. the article contributes to debates on csr based on the identification of a mechanism for disseminating csr using a positive deviation model.

Abstract: there has been a multiplication of sustainability related modules, courses, programs over the last decade in higher education in general, as well as more specifically in business education. the purpose of this paper is to provide a critique/evaluation of these efforts and to map avenues for the design of modules, courses and programs through a reflection on education paradigms and practices. this paper' goal is to contribute to the debate about the role of higher education, notably the role of administration and management courses, as it is observed a significant increase in the number of institutions of higher education that have an effective motivation to educate students with knowledge and skills needed to put sustainability at the core of its future management activities. it presents a reflection on the main strands of thought, about the main debates, it identifies ambiguities and contradictions in the debate and presents the possibilities of integrating the theme of sustainability in business administration courses. the authors bring up the issue of sustainability in its dialogue with companies and academia, the implications of the emergence of risk society to higher education and business schools. it also discusses the current schools of thought in economics and ecology proposals for education within paradigms that address complexity, the inclusion of sustainability in higher education and management education. the paper is divided into four sections: the first maps the risk society and the recent economic thought, outlines the reasons/assumptions of society and education paradigms. the second part presents a survey on promotion/dissemination of sustainability in higher education, highlighting the context, outcomes and challenges. the third focuses on sustainability in management education and its major challenges. the last section proposes three ways to integrate the theme of sustainability in management education, skills for sustainable development and final

Pierre Mendès France, French Security Politics, and the European Defense Community  [PDF]
Emmanuel Konde
Open Journal of Political Science (OJPS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojps.2013.31004
Abstract:

This paper examines the role of Pierre Mendès France in the decision of the French National Assembly to reject the European Defense Community (EDC) proposed by René Pleven in October 1950 and signed by the [Antoine] Pinay government in 1952. Since the signing of the EDC treaty in 1952, successive governments of the Fourth Republic delayed action on ratification of the treaty until 1954 when Mendès France assumed the office of prime minister and, acting against conventional wisdom, forced the National Assembly to vote on it. The EDC was a collective attempt by western European powers, with the full support of the United States, to counterbalance the overwhelming conventional military ascendancy of the Soviet Union in Europe by forming a supranational European army. This collective security plan had its origins in the French government of René Pleven in 1950. Why the French signed the treaty establishing the EDC two years later in 1952, and then rejected it in 1954 after four years of debate, is of central concern to this paper, which explores the intersection and interplay of various factors that contributed to the negative French vote.

Rethinking Leadership Theories  [PDF]
Emmanuel Mango
Open Journal of Leadership (OJL) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojl.2018.71005
Abstract:
Leadership is governed by over 66 theories which leaves many leaders and leadership scholars searching for an inclusive leadership theory. The existence of too many leadership theories obstructs progressive practice and research of leadership, hence there is need for leadership theory consolidation. This paper is an attempt to integrate leadership theories. The integration efforts are based on representative leadership theories and the review of the wider relevant leader-ship literature. Initially, the integration was to be built around 66 leadership theories but with further study 44 theories were eliminated to avoid either repetition or miniature issues and it was established that the 22 leadership theories are a good representation of the concepts captured in leadership theories. The review of the 22 leadership theories was enriched with insights from the wider leadership literature. The review and synthesis of leadership theories and the wider relevant leadership literature revealed that leadership is built on six (6) foundational domains, namely: character, characteristics, people practices, institutional practices, context and outcomes (CCPICO). The six domains occasioned the development of an integrative leadership model: ethical and effective leadership (EEL). As a consequence of the EEL model, one, the EEL subdomains are highlighted, two, leadership development based on EEL model is proposed, three, leadership definition that is in line with EEL model is suggested.
Beyond Leadership  [PDF]
Emmanuel Mango
Open Journal of Leadership (OJL) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojl.2018.71007
Abstract:
The crisis of leadership, like other crises in most critical human endeavours, is not occasioned by lack of definitive theories or knowledge, it is elicited by failure to put the existing theories and knowledge into practice. Besides, the assumption advanced by most of the proponents of leadership theories, that by revealing to leaders what leadership is and what leaders should do, then inevitably the leaders will utilize the acquired knowledge and skills to impact their followers and the society, does not stand the test of scrutiny. There is a gap between leadership knowledge and practice, meaning that there are missing elements which translate leadership theories, knowledge and skills into impact. This paper (beyond leadership) seeks to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice. Beyond leadership answers the question, why are some people (leaders) more ethical and effective than other? The paper proposes and discusses 7 elements (purpose, conviction, moral authority, passion, commitment, courage and learning) which distinguish impactful leaders from the rest. Many more elements may be needed on the leadership journey but without the 7 elements of beyond leadership, any other additional element may not matter much.
