Abstract: this study aims to validate the psychometric properties of the brazilian version of the exercise motivations inventory (emi-2). the original version was translated into portuguese and back-translated into english. after minor changes identified in the translation process, the portuguese version of the emi-2 showed semantic, idiomatic, cultural and conceptual equivalences. the final version of the translated emi-2 was administered in sample of 2380 university of both sexes to identify the psychometric properties. the adequacy of the translated version with 44 items distributed among 10 factors was tested, and construct confirmatory validity for the selected sample was assumed. the results showed cronbach's alpha coefficient acceptable (.738 to .918) and 78.4% of items had substantial kappa index of agreement (> 61%) when the application of the questionnaire was repeated. in conclusion, the translation, cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric qualities of the emi-2 were satisfactory, thus enabling its application in studies in brazil.

Abstract: objective the goal of this study was to identify the prevalence of symptoms of eating disorders in female students enrolled in state elementary schools and investigate a possible association between these eating disorders and smoking, illicit drug use and depressive episodes. methods the bulimic investigatory test of edinburgh with symptom and severity scales and the eating attitudes test - 26 with additional questions on smoking, illicit drug use and depressive episodes were used. the sample consisted of roughly 300 female students aged 10 to 15 years. results the results showed that 4.2% and 3.6% of the students presented symptoms of eating disorders according to the bulimic investigatory test of edinburgh and eating attitudes test - 26, respectively. the rates of smoking, illicit drug use and depressive episodes were 4.2%, 4.9% and 10.7%, respectively. depressive episodes were significantly associated with the following parameters: bulimic investigatory test of edinburgh - symptom scale (p=0.04) and bulimic investigatory test of edinburgh - severity scale (p=0.02). smoking (p=0.01) and illicit drug use (p=0.04) were also associated with the bulimic investigatory test of edinburgh - symptom scale. conclusion this study found that these students were at high risk of developing risky behaviors, such as eating disorders and depressive episodes.

Abstract: The aim of this studywas to assess the validity and reproducibility of a self report questionnaire on sedentary behavior (Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire: ASAQ) among Brazilian adolescents. The sample consisted of 122 adolescents (62 females) aged between 12 and 17 years. ASAQ was developed and validated for adolescents in Australia (Hardy et al, 2007), and for its use in Brazil a transcultural adaptation to Portuguese was done, followed by an assessment of ASAQ’s contents by experts. Then, ASAQ was administered within schools, on a typical school day, followed by a retest administration four days later. Total sedentary time was calculated for weekdays and weekends. Total sedentary time was calculated for weekdays and weekends. Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) and confidence interval (CI95%) were calculated for both sexes. QASA (acronym for ASAQ Portuguese version) has 13 questions divided into five categories: screen recreation, educational, transportation, cultural activities, and social activities. ICC for total time spent on sedentary behavior was 0,88(CI95%=0.82-0.91) for weekdays, and 0,77 (CI95%= 0.68-0.84) for weekends. Between categories of sedentary behavior, ICC values varied from 0.75(CI95%=0.65-0.83) for transportation to 0.94 (CI95%=0.92-0.96) for screen recreation on weekdays, and from 0.40 (CI95%=0.15-0.58) for transportation to0.90 (CI95%=0.86-0.93) for screen recreation on weekends. In general, ASAQ hada satisfactory reproducibility for the assessment of sedentary behaviors among young people in Brazil.

Abstract: this study identified cardiovascular risk factors (crf) in students from tri-border region: argentina, brazil and paraguay. study participants were 1.183 adolescents of both sexes, ages from 15 to 18 years, who completed a questionnaire to identify the crf. the proportion of adolescents with four or more crf was 65.2%. brazilian male adolescents had the highest prevalence of insufficiently active (78.3%), while the low consumption of vegetables (39.4%) and high time in sedentary activities (83.1%) were higher in argentinean male adolescents. paraguayan female adolescents had the highest proportion of insufficiently active (83.0%), while the high time in tv and media, low consumption of fruit, alcohol consumption and the clustering of four or more crf were higher in argentinean female adolescents (38.3%, 92.5%, 59.7% and 69.2%, respectively). these results may contribute to policies of healthy lifestyle promotion in the tri-border region.

Abstract: the objective was to analyse the agreement between the printed version (pv) and electronic version (ev) of an instrument to assess pa in children and to verify the reliability between two applications of the ev. the sample included 230 seven to ten-year-old children, from two schools (public and private). the sample was divided into two groups: a) analysis of agreement (n = 130), two applications of the questionnaire (ev vs. pv); b) reproducibility analysis (n = 127), two applications of the ev (test-retest). there was no significant difference between the pv and pe in the pa domain (48,6 vs 46,8). the intraclass correlation coefficient (analysis of concordance) was significant for all types of pa (p <0.05). in the reliability analysis, the difference between the scores of pa test-retest was of 2.70, the concordance was over 70% and the intraclass correlation was 0.84 (95% ci = 0.78 to 0.89). the electronic questionnaire (webdafa) presented appropriate psychometric indices of agreement and reliability when applied to children aged seven to ten years.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to assess the nutritional status and the association of excess body weight (ebw) with gender and age among children and adolescents from the town of vilhena, rondonia, brazil. a total of 5,883 students, including children (6 to 11 years) and adolescents (12 to 17 years), from public schools participated in the study. body weight and height were measured and the body mass index was calculated for subsequent classification of nutritional status. the t-test was used for comparison between genders and the chi-square test and poisson regression were used to evaluate the association between ebw, gender, and age. data were analyzed with the spss 11.0 program at a level of significance of p < 0.05. the prevalence of ebw was 19.3% among children and 17.4% among adolescents. ebw was significantly associated with gender and age among children. in addition, the prevalence of ebw was higher among girls (pr = 1.81, 95% ci 1.49 to 2.21) than among boys. adolescent girls also presented a higher prevalence of ebw than boys (pr = 1.81, 95% ci 1.49 to 2.21). the prevalence of ebw increased linearly in children (6 to 11 years) and decreased in adolescents (15 to 17 years). these results suggest that the prevalence of overweight is high among children and adolescents from northern brazil.

Fractal : Revista de Psicologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-02922012000200007
Abstract: in this article it’s discussed the diagnostic evaluation of children with attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder. the medical speech points out the etiology of this condition as being both endogenous and organic. the dsm iv’s descriptive criterion is usually used for diagnostic purposes. starting from a case study, based on the psychoanalysis’ theoretical fundaments, the author suggests that the adhd is a disorder of the functionality of perception, language and mobility. these features are intertwined and rely on the subjective position of the individual. thus the adhd can be seen as a symptom that regards a sort of message to the other.
