Views of Parents for Difficulties in the Transition from Kindergarten to Primary School. The Role of Counseling and Future Trends in General and Special Education  [PDF]
Elli Samara, Vasiliki Ioannidi
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1105062
Abstract:
The importance of collaboration between parents and teachers in the field of education has been recognized internationally with the significance of active parental engagement in school life being highlighted. Especially, a child’s transition from Kindergarten to Primary School can be a life-changing experience not only for the child itself but also for its family. The present research was conducted in May 2018 with the school year having been completed in order to collect research data on parents’ views about the difficulties they consider children face during their transition to Primary School. The research was based on structured interviews which can both be used as a qualitative and quantitative research methodology. In this research the participants were sixteen (16) parents of kindergarten children from five (5) Kindergartens in the municipality of Thessaloniki. The results of this research fill in a small gap, demonstrating that parents consider the transition from Kindergarten to Primary school important and are aware of the challenges their children could face during this period of development. School counseling could provide both help and encouragement to those parents properly preparing to support their children through this major life change and to assure themselves that they will cope with any future difficulties effectively.
Speech and Communication Disorders: A Case Study as a Teaching Example of Lifelong Training for All  [PDF]
Vasiliki Ioannidi, Elli Samara
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1105162
Abstract:
Speech and communication disorders are a category of special educational needs and can affect the evolution of the individual. The aim of this report is to present a case study as a teaching example. While studying this case, real or hypothetical examples, which reflect more general situations, are presented in order to analyze and investigate them thoroughly. The purpose of this is to provide alternative solutions to the emerging problems. The presentation of written case studies can become a really important part of the educational procedure. Case studies form the core of the recognition process and signify the end of a successful training. Moreover, case studies are an important element for lifelong training of both educators and therapists. A hypothetical case is presented in this report together with the symptomatology it shows. Furthermore, the diagnosis procedure and the way the problems of the specific student have been dealt with are presented. Finally, some basic conclusions are reached based on the information that has already been presented.
Factors Influencing Students’ Choice of Elective Science Courses: A Case Study from the American University of Sharjah  [PDF]

Abstract: Scientific studies in higher education are becoming an increasing matter of discussion. The Ameri- can University of Sharjah (AUS) encourages the scientific literacy of students who are not enrolled in science or engineering majors by including two required science courses in the curriculum. The courses of choice include biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, astronomy and physics. This study investigates the factors that contribute to students’ choice when selecting science courses at AUS. A survey comprised of open-ended questions as well as quantitative enquiries was administered to students enrolled in environmental science (ENV 100), aiming to investigate the main reason behind their choice. The results of this two year study showed significantly positive attitudes toward the course contents and the benefit of the course towards their future careers. Furthermore, it reveals that students are highly influenced by previous experiences with subjects, professors’ popularity, peer recommendation, their abilities in memorization, and skills in math. The study reveals that the main concern for students is related to the high amount of information and details that the course content covers. In addition, the possibility of obtaining a higher grade was also studied by observing the grade point average (GPA) for science courses over a period of four years. Nonetheless, the main factor for course choice was their genuine interest for the subject matter, which is this case study, was the environmental studies course.
SoundS of Silence: Organisational trust and decisions to blow the whistle
Elli Binikos
South African Journal of Industrial Psychology , 2008, DOI: 10.4102/sajip.v34i3.728
Abstract: Whistleblowing is a form of pro-social behaviour that occurs when an employee reports organisational wrongdoing to an authority able to implement corrective action. While a number of social factors may infuence an employee’s decision to blow the whistle, very little cognisance is given to the role of organisational trust. Since whistleblowing situations often pose problems for whistleblowers, organisational trust becomes an important facilitator for the decision to blow the whistle. Drawing on a case study, this paper shows that when trust exists, employees are more likely to blow the whistle and to do so internally rather than externally.
Entre information et propagande : la Grèce dans la presse britannique et fran aise pendant la Première Guerre mondiale Between Information and Propaganda: Greece in the British and French Press during World War I
Elli Lemonidou
Revue LISA / LISA e-journal , 2009, DOI: 10.4000/lisa.1982
Abstract: In this article, we present British and French propaganda during the First World War, whose aim was to shape and control, through the press, public opinion in these two countries. First, we examine the role of the official bodies responsible for propaganda, the Ministry of Information in Great Britain and the Maison de la presse in France, and the role of the censorship imposed on the press. This censorship was practised in a different way in the two countries, French censorship being much more rigorous than British. Next, we describe the image of Greece given through the English and French press during the First World War, specifying the events which the newspapers particularly concentrated on. We also mention the kind of information concerning Greek affairs which was banned by the censors. Finally, we present the various propagandist activities of the Greek government, notably its efforts to influence English and French journalistic circles, the subsidies given to newspapers and the creation of telegraphic agencies.

Les symboles religieux ambivalents sur les céramiques ottomanes du dix-neuvième siècle
Altan Albert Mar?elli
Synergies Turquie , 2012,

Toda 3-Point Functions From Topological Strings
Vladimir Mitev,Elli Pomoni
Physics , 2014,
Abstract: We consider the long-standing problem of obtaining the 3-point functions of Toda CFT. Our main tools are topological strings and the AGT-W relation between gauge theories and 2D CFTs. In arXiv:1310.3841 we computed the partition function of 5D $T_N$ theories on $S^4 \times S^1$ and suggested that they should be interpreted as the three-point structure constants of q-deformed Toda. In this paper, we provide the exact AGT-W dictionary for this relation and rewrite the 5D $T_N$ partition function in a form that makes taking the 4D limit possible. Thus, we obtain a prescription for the computation of the partition function of the 4D $T_N$ theories on $S^4$, or equivalently the undeformed 3-point Toda structure constants. Our formula, has the correct symmetry properties, the zeros that it should and, for $N=2$, gives the known answer for Liouville CFT.
OPTIONS FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF ITEMS OF FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AT NATIONAL, EUROPEAN AND INTERNATIONAL LEVEL
SILVIA SAMARA
Annals of the University of Petrosani : Economics , 2010,
Abstract: The main purpose of evaluation is to determine the financial position and the outcome of the entity’s activity. With the intensification of the phenomena of globalization of economies and financial markets and the emergence of phenomena such as inflation, it began to be more often used the assessment based on the current value and, in particular, on the fair value. The users of the financial statements must always be taken into when selecting a basis of evaluation. Internationally, we can observe the tendency that, by the use of a certain bases of evaluation, to respond favourably to the needs of a various range of users; a balance must be assured between the relevance of the information (their usefulness in decision-making) and their reliability (their objectivity).
