Colombia Médica , 2011,
Abstract: objective: to assess the levels of physical activity, barriers, and stage of change in an urban population 25 to 50 years of age from the municipality of santa rosa de osos, department of antioquia. materials and methods: a prevalence study was conducted, with a two-stage random sampling among 357 individuals not suffering from any known cardiovascular disease. a pre-designed survey was conducted to assess the levels of physical activity, the stage of change, and physical activity barriers. results: the total low physical activity was 9%, and by domains: work 66.9%, transport 60.8%, household and garden (yard work) 44.8%, and leisure-time 76.2%. the most important physical activity barriers were ?lack of willpower? (70%) and ?lack of time? (46.2%). the most prevalent stages of change were ?contemplation? (40.3%) and ?preparation? (17.1%). conclusion: low physical activity levels were found in different domains of daily life, together with a high prevalence of barriers and stages prior to physical activity practice, mainly among women and obese subjects.

Abstract: introduction: health related quality of life (hrql) allows to assess people health status, and to design, implement and evaluate health programs. objective: to determine the perception of hrql in users of a physical activity (pa) program. methodology: cross-sectional study in 177 subjects belonging to a physical activity program. sf-36v1.2 questionnaire was used to assess hrql; maximal oxygen consumption (vo2max) was evaluated by the 2.000 meters test and prevalence of some cardiovascular risk factors was determined from medical records. results: the higher average score for hrql was in physical function (pf) 90,5 (sd: 10.8), compared with the lowest scores of body pain (bp) 78,1 (sd: 22,4) and vitality (vt) 78,1 (sd: 15,5). in smokers, hypertensive, diabetics, obese and people with low levels of physical activity most hrql scores were lower (clinically and statistically significant differences). vo2max correlated with pf subscales (rho = 0.371; p = 0.0001), physical performance (rho = 0.177; p = 0.018) and bp (rho = 0.207; p = 0.006). conclusion: the studied individuals have a good perception of hrql; nevertheless, those who reported smoking, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia and low aerobic power, had a reduced perception of hrql; obese people showed improved scores in mental component domains and those with low levels of pa showed low scores in that component.
Moreno,Francisco; Arango,Fernando;
Ingeniería e Investigación , 2011,
Abstract: data warehouse dimensions are usually considered to be static because their schema and data tend not to change; however, both dimension schema and dimension data can change. this paper focuses on a type of dimension data change called reclassification which occurs when a member of a certain level becomes a member of a higher level in the same dimension, e.g. when a product changes category (it is reclassified). this type of change gives rise to the notion of classification period and to a type of query that can be useful for decision-support. for example, what were total chess-set sales during first classification period in toy category? a set of operators has been proposed to facilitate formulating this type of query and it is shown how to incorporate them in sql, a familiar database developer language. our operators′ expressivity is also shown because formulating such queries without using these operators usually leads to complex and nonintuitive solutions.
A CONCEPTUAL TRAJECTORY MULTIDIMENSIONAL MODEL: AN APPLICATION TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
MORENO,FRANCISCO; ARANGO,FERNANDO;
DYNA , 2011,
Abstract: currently, thanks to global positioning systems technologies and mobile devices equipped with sensors, a lot of data about moving objects can be collected, e.g., data related with the trajectories which are followed by these devices. on the other hand, data warehouses (dws), usually modeled by using a multidimensional view of data, are specialized databases used to support decision-making processes. unfortunately, conventional dws offer little support for managing trajectories. although there are some proposals that deal with trajectory dws, none of them are devoted to conceptual multidimensional modeling. in this paper, we extend a conceptual spatial multidimensional model by incorporating a trajectory as a first-class concept. in order to show the expediency of our proposal, we illustrate it with an example related to public transportation.
Sierra Arango,Fernando;
Revista Colombiana de Gastroenterologia , 2008,
Abstract: it has been interesting the understanding of the barrett?s esophagus physiopathology in last 50 years and their association like the more grateful risk factor for esophagus adenocarcinoma, whose incidence is increased in a bigger rate that any other cancer type, among 4-10% annually. this retrospective cohort study, seeks to determine esophagus adenocarcinoma incidence in barrett?s esophagus and esophagitis patient in eleven years of pursuit, at la fundación santa fe de bogotá. there were 49 patients for exposed cohort (barrett esophagus) as of not exposed (esophagitis). the exposed cohort incidence was 4% (2 cases). the confidence intervals (ci) of 95% for a 4% risk in the exposed cohort, included 0, therefore; there was not difference with non exposed cohort, where there were not cases. both events were detected in routinely endoscopic assay, with average interval between barrett esophagus diagnosis and adenocarcinoma development 7, 5 year-old. there was not mortality in both cases. this could be the first and only retrospective cohort study that evaluates barrett esophagus and esophagus adenocarcinoma association that has been carried out in the country, with 11 years to pursuit. the discoveries in general coincide with that referred in the scientific available literature. the pursuit of the patients continues and these results should be considered as an advance report.
Sierra Arango,Fernando;
Revista Colombiana de Gastroenterologia , 2006,
Abstract: acute liver failure is the worst consequence that the liver suffers after any insult. despite of a mayor understanding in the pathogenic mechanisms which explain the symptomatic constellation and its complications; there has been a very few advances that significantly improve the complex clinical course of these patients. a better understanding of the clinical history, its complications and its earlier recognizing is the current best alternative to improve the deadly and grim prognosis that usually accompany this feared disease
Sierra Arango,Fernando;
Revista Colombiana de Gastroenterologia , 2006,
Abstract: the treatment of non-ulcer dyspepsia keeps on being a conundrum. in spite of the many treatments that we have to deal with this disease neither has shown a benefit much higher than the placebo. one of the most common types of medication to treat this disease is the proquinetics. among this class of medications; domperidone which is a dopaminergic antagonist has shown a moderate effect. the porpoise of this systematic review is assessing the existent bibliography over the actual roll of domperidone in the treatment of patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia. after the critical appraisal of the literature that i have done; we can conclude that domperidona is safe and useful in the treatment of non-ulcer dyspepsia, in fact the number needed to treat is only 4.
