Villagómez,Elizabeth;
Gaceta Laboral , 2005,
Abstract: this article describes the situation of women in the spanish labour market and links this situation to the existing social security and taxation systems in spain. the low participation rates, in relation to the european union averages, as well as high unemployment rates, and higher instability in the labour market in general have been identified as the main reason for low fertility rates of women in spain and also in other european union countries such as italy. the lack of participation or discontinuous participation in the labour market and the strength of the traditional gender division of labour in the household is an obstacle for women's full access to economic and social rights as workers. the higher dependency of women on non-contributive benefits and the lack of social services for the care of children and dependent adults result in a system that can be described as giving women "a choice" but without any state support. although the extended family culture in spain is very strong, recent social trends such as the increase in the age of the mother at first birth, urbanization, ageing of society and a high influx of immigrants is putting strains on women and promoting the need to make rather urgent reforms that are sensitive to this situation.

The placement of this dwelling -a tall cornice over the Andean valley of La Paz- creates, besides just panoramic views of the city, an opportunity to propose a unique and extroverted volume, facing the valley and its openness.

Mundo agrario , 2004,
Abstract: in this article i develop an argument that allows to understand the oaxacan isthmus as a site of convergence among multiple and culturally diverse groups. moreover, this article discusses the historical background of the towns and cities found in the isthmus as well as the economic structure that allows for their reproduction not only as ethnic groups but as individual communities. the author argues that through the enduring relationship among the communities found in the isthmus the cultural manifestations of each group converge, intertwine and mutually influence each other until each group imposes upon the other. in order to understand the inter-ethnic relationships in the isthmus not only requires analyzing the general characteristics of each group, but also entails examining information obtained from each community in the isthmus especially in the light of new national and international processes which are irreversibly affecting the structure and composition of groups in the isthmus. underdeveloped transportation networks for agricultural and fishing products, marginalization, regional unemployment, and migration, among others, are aspects that make the reality that is revealed in the irremediable advance facing groups that must create survival and reproduction strategies in order to maintain themselves as communities. in light of the differentiation among ethnic groups, and the relationships among different ethnic groups, horizontal asymmetries define the manifestation of inter-ethnic relations in the isthmus. in analyzing the socio-ethnic-national relations among groups in the isthmus, it is noted that there exists flagrant inequalities in accessing the wealth that is generated in the country. these inequalities are manifested in a poor quality of life, lack of education, little access to communication networks as well as other important variables. interestingly, some ethnic groups have a privileged position in the isthmus enjoying access to communication and

Villagómez, Alejandro;Farias, Jennifer;
Política y gobierno , 2009,
Abstract: our paper offers a first analysis on the evolution and behaviour of enrolment to the undergraduate degrees of pc and pcpa in mexico during 1974-2004. we emphasized an increase in enrolment, more accentuated for pcpa, which is explained to a great extent by the expansion of private institutions, particularly in the last ten years. a decentralization process is also observed, increasing the participation in province, as well as a growing participation of women. our analysis suggests the political context is relevant for the election of cp, whereas the relevance of the state is useful to explain the fluctuations in the enrolment pcpa. finally, a substitution effect between cp and economy and ri is also observed.

Interestingly, some ethnic groups have a privileged position in the isthmus enjoying access to communication and commercial networks, as well as exercising political influence among the ethnic groups, while other ethnic groups are excluded from these luxuries, not only due to their indigenous stature, but because they are subordinated by the domination that other ethnic groups exercise. Key to the current discussion about this area of Oaxaca is the exploitation and appropriation of the considerable range of natural resources found in the isthmus. Not only are the system of lakes in the Tehuantepec Gulf, the nature reserves in Chimalapas and the cattle ranching in the Mixe important sites of economic expl
New challenges to rethink the training of ecuadorian teachers
María Sol Villagómez
Alteridad : Revista de Educación , 2012,
Abstract: Training ecuadorian teachers has traditionally been linked to public policy and national curricula that have defined the task of teaching, classroom work, and what basic teacher training institutions should prioritize on when it comes to training teachers. Recent years have seen major changes in the educational sector, as well as a revaluation of the teaching trade. New training challenges arise, not only from the teacher's perspective as executor of the curricula, but as a key player in the educational process. We need to rethink the training of teachers to and from a critical reflection and research point-of-view, in order to reflect on the curricula, their own experience, and their relevance in relation to the framework in wich they develop.
