Klimik Journal , 2012,
Abstract: Although brain abscess may occur without evident risk factors, well-known risk factors are diabetes mellitus, head trauma, neurosurgical operations and immunosuppression. We present two cases of brain abscess, the first due to Klebsiella pneumoniae in a patient with diabetes mellitus as a risk factor, and the second due to Pseudomonas sp. in a patient without any known risk factor. Both patients required reoperation for relapses after initial operations performed partially because of the locations of the abscesses.

Abstract: The most common pathogens causing peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients are gram positive organisms, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus. Gram negative organisms and fungi are less common causes. Environmental organisms are rarely implicated in patients with peritonitis. With the following report we describe two peritonitis episodes in successive years caused by two unusual microorganism: Alcaligenes faecalis and Pantoea agglomerans.A 89-year-old female patient receiving automated peritoneal dialysis presented with abdominal pain and cloudy dialysis fluid. She had a history of diabetes mellitus and had been maintained on APD because of diabetic nephropathy for 10 years. In 2004 she had culture negative peritonitis which was treated with sefazoline and ciprofloxacin. In January 2007, she presented with abdominal pain, cloudy dialysate, and vomiting. Analysis of peritoneal effluent demonstrated white blood cell (WBC) of 700/mm3. Fifty mL of peritoneal fluid was centrifugated at 3000 g for 15 minutes, then resuspension of the sediment in 3-5 mL of steril salin inoculated in chocolate-agar, blood-agar and MacConkey agar in microbiology unit. Intraperitoneal sefuroksim (750 mg q12h) and oral ciprofloxacin (500 mg q12h) were given empirically. On the fifth day of treatment a gram-negative, oxidase-positive bacteria with peritrichous flagella, Alcaligenes faecalis was isolated from MacConkey agar. The antibiotic treatment was continued for 21 days and she recovered completely. On February 2009, she presented with cloudy dialysate and abdominal pain. On physical examination, blood pressure was 60/40 mmHg, pulse rate was 96/min, body temperature was 36.5°C. Cardiopulmonary examination was normal. Her abdomen was distended and tender, with normal bowel sounds. Laboratory data showed a blood WBC of 14000/mm3. Analysis of peritoneal fluid demonstrated WBC 2700/mm3. She was treated with intraperitoneal sefuroksim (750 mg q12 h) and ciprofloxacin (200

Abstract: A real estate investment trust (REIT) is a corporation or a business trust that combines the capital of many investors to acquire (or provide financing for) various real estate assets. Investors get a share of the earnings, depreciation, etc. from the portfolio of real estate holdings that the REIT owns. REITs were created to provide investors with the opportunity to participate in the benefits of ownership of larger-scale commercial real estate or mortgage lending. Finally, REITs is that they are probably the best inflation hedge around.

Dogus University Journal , 2012,
Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the cynicism and organizational cynicism trends of academicians at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Suleyman Demirel University. For this purpose, while the cynicism is analysed using the scale developed by Wrightman (1992), for the organizational cynicism, Brandes’s (1997) scale is prefered. The data obtained in this field study is processed and the results are interpreted through the frequency, factor and correlation analyses.

Abstract: Background and Design: There have been reports suggesting the involvement of environmental factors in the disease process of pemphigus. In this study, we aimed to find out the risk factors which could play role in the etiopathogenesis in our pemphigus patients.Material and method: A total of 42 patients (15 male and 27 female) who were diagnosed as pemphigus with histopathological and direct immunoflurosence examinations in our clinic between the years 1998-2004, were interviewed for assessment of regarding with the subjects of the demographic properties, occupational groups, educational level, the number of pregnancies, stressfull life events, diet habits, smoking and alcohol consumption before the onset of the disease and the results were compared to 42 age and gender-matched controls with similar socioeconomic circumstances. Results: Working in agriculture and livestock, multi-parity, absence of smoking and stressfull life events were found to be statistically significant in pemphigus patients than in controls. Conclusion: Working in agriculture and livestock, multi-parity, absence of smoking and stressfull life events were assumed to play role in the etiopathogenesis and course of pemphigus.

Abstract: This study is a descriptive study that aims to reveal thoughts of senior students about field trip organized to Band rma Wind Power Plant in accordance to Energy and Environment lecture. Participants to this trip were 34 senior Science Teacher students. After the trip, thoughts of participants were collected by a form including open-ended questions. According to the answers to these questions, Science Teacher candidates think that this trip is distinguished by giving an opportunity to learn at first-hand, providing observation chance, bridging over meaningful and lasting learning as a result of observing the learned information as substantial and also providing an opening to socialization and fun.
Conformational Control of the Binding of the Transactivation Domain of the MLL Protein and c-Myb to the KIX Domain of CREB

Abstract: The KIX domain of CBP is a transcriptional coactivator. Concomitant binding to the activation domain of proto-oncogene protein c-Myb and the transactivation domain of the trithorax group protein mixed lineage leukemia (MLL) transcription factor lead to the biologically active ternary MLL:KIX:c-Myb complex which plays a role in Pol II-mediated transcription. The binding of the activation domain of MLL to KIX enhances c-Myb binding. Here we carried out molecular dynamics (MD) simulations for the MLL:KIX:c-Myb ternary complex, its binary components and KIX with the goal of providing a mechanistic explanation for the experimental observations. The dynamic behavior revealed that the MLL binding site is allosterically coupled to the c-Myb binding site. MLL binding redistributes the conformational ensemble of KIX, leading to higher populations of states which favor c-Myb binding. The key element in the allosteric communication pathways is the KIX loop, which acts as a control mechanism to enhance subsequent binding events. We tested this conclusion by in silico mutations of loop residues in the KIX:MLL complex and by comparing wild type and mutant dynamics through MD simulations. The loop assumed MLL binding conformation similar to that observed in the KIX:c-Myb state which disfavors the allosteric network. The coupling with c-Myb binding site faded, abolishing the positive cooperativity observed in the presence of MLL. Our major conclusion is that by eliciting a loop-mediated allosteric switch between the different states following the binding events, transcriptional activation can be regulated. The KIX system presents an example how nature makes use of conformational control in higher level regulation of transcriptional activity and thus cellular events.
