Macedonian Journal of Medical Sciences , 2011, DOI: 10.3889/MJMS.1857-5773.2011.0197
Abstract: Aim: The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of the synthetic progestin medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) on the morphological characteristics of the thymus. Material and Methods: A total of 24 female Wistar rats were divided into two groups. The control group received saline, and the second group was administered medroxyprogesterone acetate in the therapeutic dose of 30 mg/kg bw. The substances were applied daily, intramuscularly for a period of 7 days. Paraffin sections of thymus were dyed with the following methods: hematoxylin - eosin and elastica Van Gieson. Results: Histological analysis of the samples obtained after the application of MPA, showed a reduction in the thymic parenchyma and increasing of the stroma. Stereological analysis and statistical data processing (Student t-test) showed that the volume density (% per mm3 tissue) of thymic parenchyma was 89.94 ± 0.85% (average value ± standard deviation) in the control group of rats, while significantly decreased to 18.07 ± 2.20% in the group of rats treated with MPA (p <0.01). It was due to significant reduction of the cortex (from 71.37 ± 1.33% to 11.81 ± 1.31%, p <0.01) and significant reduction of the medulla (from 18.56 ± 1.07% to 6.23 ± 0.93%, p <0.01). To account thymic parenchyma, intense presence of increased stroma and its bulk density of 10.06 ± 0.85% in control group of rats significantly increased to 81.93 ± 2.20% after the treatment with MPA. Conclusion: The results showed that major morphological characteristic of the thymus is the atrophy of its parenchyma after the application of medroxyprogesterone acetate.

La Revolución: Prolegómenos
Aponte Sánchez,Elida;
Frónesis , 2003,
Abstract: this article is the first in a series of reflections on revolution, at a time when the word revolution seems to invade every space in our daily lives. we introduce certain themes which form port of the reflections in relation to this concept and refer specifically to political, social and judicial aspects. a doctrinary review, the reconstruction of the historic development and a confrontation with reality permit us, through a series of articles, to respond to questions as to whether the so-called bolivarian revolution is an authentic revolution and whether ot not we can expect favorable results from it for the social conglomerate. the proposed mission is not easy but it is necessary to confront this theme from a philosophical perspective (not exclusively), with a critical spirit and without prejudice, due to its importance in the venezuelan politic situation.
La revolución feminista
Aponte Sánchez,Elida;
Frónesis , 2005,
Abstract: framed within the análisis of the bolivarian revolution headed by president hugo chávez frias, we would like to offer some reflections on the femeninst revolution, the only revolution that has been going on for over three hundred years. after a review of the postulates of our revolution, its achievements and failures, strengths and weaknesses in an unsatisfied world that debates back and forth between globalization, savage capitalism, the rebirth of nationalism and populism, fundamentalism of all sorts and types, both rightist and leftist, poverty, war and the devastation of the planet, to name a few of the more visible political spaces, the femenist revolution acquires a sense of great importance since it is the only revolution that promises an egalitarian, just and equitable social equality, in other words, a truly human society.
La Democracia y la Constitución, de cara a los Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres
Aponte Sánchez,Elida;
Frónesis , 2008,
Abstract: this article deals with the existing relationship between democracy and the constitution, looking at human rights and the full exercise of citizenship by women. the study takes the constitution of the bolivarian republic of venezuela as a normative reference in a society that has defined itself as democratic, participative, protagonistic, multiethnic and pluricultural, almost eight years after the constitutional text came into effect, a text considered the most advanced in america on the subject of human rights for women. from the analysis, conclusions were that it is not possible to build a democratic, participative and protagonistic society if a total divorce exists between the formal constitution, the real constitution and democracy as related to women.
Las resistencias y demandas ciudadanas frente a las lógicas del mercado y las políticas del Estado (Santa Fe, Argentina, 1890-1912)
Bonaudo, Marta;Sonzogni, Elida;
América Latina en la historia económica , 2010,
Abstract: the article aims to offer some reflections center on the difficult and contradictory construction of a civic identity that seeks to link the republican base and/or democratic with governing principles that rules functioning of the market. consequently, the problem of citizenship does not refer them to consider only the field of rights and guarantees issued by the social contract, but to think about integrating strategy designed to legitimize practices that transcend the legal order and join the capitalist rationality. accordingly, it is not essentially the face of citizen voters, but those appearing since the dawn of the neighborhood through different experiences societal (tax payer, a producer of goods, consumer).

La denuncia del discurso médico como uno de los supuestos de inaplicabilidad del derecho
APONTE SáNCHEZ,Elida;
Utopìa y Praxis Latinoamericana , 2008,
Abstract: one of the most important aspects dealing with discrimination against women in the sciences, is the review of language and the concepts that constitute it. an interconnection exists between the sciences that cannot not always be observed without effort and which, when related to gender, is of enormous relevance because it explains the existence of some scientific contents that serve as material for the epistemological construction of others. this is true without forgetting that the disjuncture between the masculine and the feminine is supported by the association of masculinity with power and objectivity and the feminine, with subjectivity and love. this article reflects on medical discourse, especially in reference to reproduction and sexuality, as one of the suppositions regarding the inapplicability of rights. medical discourse, joined with religious discourse, serves legal notions that impede making the interests and needs of women visible, contributing to the impunity of conduct that works against women?s rights, impeding or hindering material equality or justice.

Abstract: Aim. The aim of our investigation was to make a quantification of the changes being registered by a quantitative histological analysis of adrenal cortex after long-term application of high doses of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA). Material and Methods. A total of 48 female Wistar rats were divided into four groups. The control group was given saline intramusculary, every day, and the other three groups MPA in doses of 7.5, 15.0 and 75.0 mg/kg bw, respectively, during 30 days. Paraffin sections from adrenal glands were stained according the following methods: hematoxylin-eosin, Azan, modified by Heidenhein, and Masson. Results. Gravimetric and variance analysis demonstrated the most remarkable decrease of the adrenal gland weight after the application of 75.0 mg/kg/bw MPA (from 35.66 ± 11.78 to 13.41 ± 8.41 mg (p<0.001). On the other hand, morphometric analysis demonstrated that adrenal cortex volume was the most significantly reduced from 11.30 ± 3.53 in the control group to 2.04 ± 0.90 mm3 in the group treated with 15.0 mg/kg bw MPA (p<0.0001). Adrenal cortex thickness was reduced from 846.06 ± 6.48 to 349.55 ± 4.84 μm after the application of 75.0 mg/kg bw (p < 0.001). After the application of the same dose the glomerular zone thickness was decreased from 48.02 ± 0.44 to 41.40 ± 0.43 μm (p < 0.001), the fascicular zone thickness from 480.72 ± 3.43 to 194.32 ± 2.80 μm (p <0.001) and the reticular zone thicknes reduced from 317.47 ± 4.80 to 113.85 ± 2.28 μm (p < 0.001). The volume of glomerular zone cell nuclei decreased most remarkably from 94.79 ± 0.96 μm3 after the application of 75.0 mg/kg bw to 60.12 ± 0.88 μm3 (p < 0.001). The volume of fascicular zone cell nuceli decreased from 166.30 ± 1.53 to 52.47 ± 0.89 μm3 (p < 0.001), while the volume of reticular zone cell nuceli reduced from 95.61 ± 1.03 to 47.68 ± 0.92 μm3 (p < 0.001). The analysis by means of χ2 test showed that the appearance of tissue necrotic changes in adrenal cortex had a statistical significance only after the application of the highest dose of MPA (p < 0.012). Conclusion. The quantitative histological analysis showed significant decrease of the adrenal cortex, i.e. decrease of glomerular, fascicular and reticular zone thickness and significant decrease of the adrenocorticocytes nuclei volume, changes which suggested that MPA caused an atrophy of the adrenal cortex.
