Ana Flávia GRANVILLE-GARCIA,Elianay Maria LIMA,Pryscila Gomes SANTOS,Valdenice Aparecida de MENEZES
Pesquisa Brasileira em Odontopediatria e Clínica Integrada , 2007,
Abstract: Objective: To assess the knowledge on reimplant-avulsion of Physical Education Teachers’ in the city of Caruaru (PE). Methods: The study was carried on in the city of Caruaru, Pernambuco (BR), and the participants were 79 professionals who were interviewed through a standard questionnaire containing 11 questions related to dental avulsion as well as to the procedures to be followed in such cases. Results: Only 20.3% of teachers knew what dental traumas are, but none of them had studied the subject during their undergraduate course. It was explained to participants what a dental avulsion was and 44.3% of them answered that they had already seen this kind of trauma in their classes. All professionals said they would give children a handkerchief or a towel for them to bite in order to control bleeding. 19% of the participants would not know what to do and 81% would wash the tooth in water. Most of them (86.1%) recognized the importance of an immediate treatment; all of them said they would wrap the tooth in a paper napkin until the child was assisted; and 26.6% said they would suggest an analgesic for the pain. Conclusion: Teachers did not show any knowledge of the emergency procedures that should be taken in a case of dental avulsion. The inclusion of such procedures in the programs of physical education courses and the availability of preventive educational programs is needed in order to increase the chances of a successful dental reimplant.
Natureza e civiliza??o: os painéis decorativos do Sal?o Nobre do Teatro Amazonas
Daou, Ana Maria Lima;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702007000500003
Abstract: the decorative panels in the foyer of the teatro amazonas, inaugurated in 1896, stand out from the rest of the building's ornamental iconography. the rubber trade brought great wealth to the capitals of pará and amazonas and as these cities gained national and international fame, their urban fabric and forms of sociability underwent significant changes. the article looks for parallels between the landscape representations of amazonian nature adorning the building's foyer, the construction of the modern city, and social uses of the teatro amazonas, symbol of the era and emblem of the newly rich elite, who were then taking their place on the regional and national stages. the teatro amazonas formed the center of the era's social life and its foyer played host to veritable rituals of 'civilization', in which brazilian and foreign guests enjoyed the fine setting of amazon's nature as represented in the decorative wall panels.

Dependência química e trabalho: uso funcional e disfuncional de drogas nos contextos laborais
Lima, Maria Elizabeth Antunes;
Revista Brasileira de Saúde Ocupacional , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0303-76572010000200008
Abstract: the theme of this article is drug use in work context, and the objective is to analyze it from continuous use that does not bring severe consequences to the user to use that leads to his/her addiction. based on literature review concerning this subject, a reflexion is proposed, which, among other aspects, includes a classification of drug intake in functional and dysfunctional manners. in the first, drug is used as a "work tool" and it does not prevent work from being accomplished; in the second, there is a change of the drug consumption pattern that deeply affects professional performance. while transitioning from functional to dysfunctional uses, drug transforms from a means to an end to the end itself. however, even in functional use, the users' relationship with their activities can be basically adaptive (although this might not occur to most of them), and therefore, it cannot be considered healthy.
Utiliza??o de recursos florais por abelhas (Hymenoptera, Apoidea) em uma área de Caatinga (Itatim, Bahia, Brasil)
Aguiar, Candida Maria Lima;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752003000300015
Abstract: this study was designed to identify important food resource plants used by bee species in a caatinga area, as well as describe the local patterns of floral use by bees. a total of 1,145 foraging bees, belonging to 60 species, were captured while visiting 50 plant species. melochia tomentosa l., sida galheirensis ulbr., erythroxylon catingae p. cowan, and ziziphus cotinifolia reiss. were the most frequently visited plants. melochia tomentosa, solanum paniculatum l. and s. galheirensis were visited by larger number of bee species. some oligolectic bees were identified. apis mellifera linnaeus, 1758 and trigona spinipes (fabricius, 1793) had the largest trophic niche breadth (2.71 and 2.31). the trophic niche overlap was highest (0.52) between xylocopa grisescens lepeletier, 1841 and frieseomelitta silvestrii (friese, 1902). the low trophic niche overlap between apis mellifera and native stingless bees seems to be the result of intensive exploration of only a few flower sources by africanized bees, not frequently visited by meliponids.

Maria Elizabeth Antunes Lima
