ABSTRACT The State of Amazonas has one of the largest preserved biodiversity on the planet. It has a valuable gene bank for scientific and economic exploration, however, which is threatened by environmental degradation. Due to its rich social diversity with a large number of indigenous ethnicities, which is marked by the culture of peoples on the riverside and rich in folkloric festivities, the region is also known as a Reference in Ecotourism. This paper aims at analyzing the impact of the Iranduba/AM ecotourism site on the local communities. Qualitative research using the Focal Group methodological technique was used for data collection. This work was carried out in order to investigate the modus operandi of ecotourism in the Amazon to show whether this activity is done in accordance with the concepts advocated in the literature. This ecotourism pole in Iranduba was chosen for its large concentration of jungle lodges and for the variety of its neighboring comm

Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Médica , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-55022008000300009
Abstract: this article discusses the complex question health care models and proposes the theoretical and methodological construction of a model articulating teaching and service delivery by means of an interdisciplinary and multi-professional approach. this construction would be one of the structural axes in the consolidation of curricular guidelines proposing changes in the education (and in the practice) of professionals working in the health area. such changes would meet the prerogatives of the brazilian care delivery model known as sus and would be based on professional qualification focused on the social health needs of the country and seeking to deliver comprehensive care. the teaching and assistance program (programa docente-assistencial - pda) of florianópolis - a space where teaching activity and service delivery are articulated allowing continued reflection on the micro work processes of its participants - is considered an ideal scenario for the discussion/construction of this proposal.

Abstract: objective: epidemiological studies have shown an inverse relationship between people's habitual eating frequency and blood total cholesterol, leading to the suggestion that, a frequency increase in meal pattern may help to reduce the amount of such lipids. the objective was to examine data collected during a clinical trial, in order to evaluate the effects of increased meal frequency on serum cholesterol of women, who had their usual diet supplemented with either fruits or fiber. methods: forty nine hypercholesterolemic women (bmi>25kg/m2) non-smokers, ages ranging from 30 to 50 years old, and cholesterol level greater than 240 mg/dl, had been tested on their usual diet supplemented with fruits or fiber, during 10 weeks. these women had been randomly assigned to add to their usual diet, either three apples (300g) or three pears (300g), or three oat-cookies (60g), all with similar fiber quantity. at baseline, the meal frequency has been 3.8±1.1; in the follow-up, the meal frequency increased to five meals per day. the registered mean of serum cholesterol was then evaluated, taking into account the change in frequency/number of meals per day, such as one, two, three or more meals. results: after 14 weeks of follow-up, serum total cholesterol and ldl-c, each showed a reduction of 12.6mg/dl, p<0.04 and 17.42mg/dl, p<0.03, respectively, among participants reporting an increase of three or more meals per day. when the resulting model was adjusted for age, body weight, and type of food (fruit or fiber) added to diet, the values of total cholesterol and ldl-c changed to 11.5mg/dl, p<0.04; 17.3, p<0.04 respectively; however, the difference remained statistically significant for the participants that reported average increase of three or more meals. on the other hand, the hdl-c did not show any change before or after adjusting for age, body weight and type of food added to usual diet. conclusion: the increased number of meals reduced serum cholesterol, independently of age, b

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the biological aspects and thermal requirements of Harmonia axyridis Pallas (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) fed daily with Anagasta kuehniella (Zeller) (Lep-idoptera: Pyralidae) eggs. Under laboratory conditions, the experiment was carried out in acclimatized chambers set to 18°C, 21°C, 24°C, 27°C, and 30°C. Larvae of H. axyridis were separated, kept in a glass tube, and fed with A. kuehniella eggs. The Asiatic lady beetle adults were separated into 20 couples and kept in plastic cups receiving the same food as the larvae. The length of the larval, pupal, and total biological cycle (from egg to adult) stages declined significantly from 18°C to 27°C, but was stable between 27°C and 30°C. Survival was similar for larvae from the first to the fourth stadium when kept at 18°C, 21°C, and 24°C with a higher total biological cycle survival at 27°C. H. axyridis males presented higher longevity at 18°C and 21°C in comparison to females that had a longer life and a higher fecundity at 24°C and 27°C, respectively. The lower thermal limit for biological cycle development was 12.4°C, and the thermal constant was 243.9 degree-days.

Abstract: detailed studies of exoskeleton, mouthparts, wing venation, endosternites, retal plates and male and female terminalia, has been used to improve the systematics and evolutionary studies of the neotropical anthribids. in this approach s. fulvitarsis (type-species of the genus), s. longulus and s. frontalis were carefully compared including descriptions and illustrations of characters never studied. among the species examined, s. frontalis display a distinct mimetic pattern with flies of the family sarcophagidae. the hypothesis that this species does not belong in the genus stenocerus when compared with the type-species and s. longulus is discussed based mainly on position of the eyes, lack of lateral carinae, lamina of metendosternite longer than arms and median rods of ovipositor narrowed in the proximal region.

Analysis of compliance and irregularity between Management Conservation and Director Plans: a case study of Birds Natural Park in the city of Rio das Ostras In the presente work, the Director Plan of Rio das Ostras, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the Management Plan of a municipal Conservation Unit (CU) named Birds Natural Park were investigated aiming at detecting possible territorial management conflicts, as well as pointing out potential of using these two regulations as tools for improving life quality and for developing sustainable local strategies. The study allowed for the inference of the need to review not only the Director Plans of mediumsized cities, but also the Managements Plans of the Conservation Units (CUs). Furthermore, Director Plans must be consistent in terms of articles and objectives, detailing sustainable projects for CUs by means of action plans, chronograms for the implementation of ecological corridors, and use and occupation of CUs buffer zone criteria.
