Revista de Odontologia da Universidade de S?o Paulo , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-06631999000400009
Abstract: the purpose of this research was to evaluate microleakage on proximal restorations of primary teeth, using four materials (dyract, vitremer, z100 and fuji ii lc). acid etching was performed in only one group. proximal cavities were prepared with the following measures (mm): height, 4; width, 3; depth, 2. restoring was performed according to manufacturer?s instructions, and specimens were stored in distilled water for seven days, at 37oc. afterwards, thermal cycling was performed (700 cycles at 5 and 55oc, for one minute in each temperature). specimens were then immersed in 0.5% methylene blue solution, and prepared for evaluation. the results led to the following conclusions: there were great differences of scores between materials, 0.1 (dyract) and 4.0 (fuji ii lc); vitremer and z100 presented similar values (respectively, in scores, 1.7 and 1.6); fuji ii lc presented the largest microleakage, which decreased with the acid etching.

Aesthetic restoration of deciduous anterior teeth after removal of carious tissue with Papacárie
Motta Lara,Martins Manoela,Porta Kristianne,Bussadori Sandra
Indian Journal of Dental Research , 2009,
Abstract: The development of conservative techniques for the removal of carious tissue and the improvement of dental restoration materials allow better preservation of the dental structure. Chemomechanical caries removal is a conservative and atraumatic alternative. Papacárie is a papain-based material developed to act only on the carious dentin, allowing its easy removal with a blunt curette. This study aims to present a clinical case of aesthetic restoration of both upper deciduous central incisors after the removal of carious tissue with Papacárie .
Intra-oral schwannoma: Case report and literature review
Martins Manoela,Anunciato de Jesus Luciane,Fernandes Kristianne,Bussadori Sandra
Indian Journal of Dental Research , 2009,
Abstract: Schwannoma is a relatively uncommon, slow-growing benign tumor that is derived apparently from the Schwann cells. The tongue is the most common site, followed by the palate, floor of mouth, buccal mucosa, lips, and jaws. It can present itself at any age. Usually, this lesion is not taken into account during clinical practice and the differential diagnosis includes numerous benign neoformations based on epithelial and connective tissues. Immunohistochemical features can be useful in determining the neural differentiation. Anti-S100 protein is probably the most used antibody to identify this lesion. The schwannoma is usually a solitary lesion, and can be multiple when associated with neurofibromatosis. In the current study, authors report a case of an intraoral schwannoma situated at the vestibule with 20 years of evolution treated by complete surgical excision. The diagnosis was established based on clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical aspects. The patient is under clinical control, with no signs of recurrence even after four years.

Orienting a new generation of nurses: Expectations of the millennial new graduate  [PDF]
Elaine M. Riegel
Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2013.37062

Generational diversity provides a unique quandary for nursing leaders and educators to enlist, orient, and retain nurses. Millennials are the largest cohort since the Baby Boomers and the age group from which the nursing profession will build its future workforce. This study examined the experiences of the new graduate nurse of the millennial generation as they navigate orientation in an acute care setting. Using a Web-based survey to conduct the study allowed nurses from across the country to participate while providing easy access to the study questions. Analysis of the data through qualitative content analysis demonstrated a dominate theme of seeking structure while expecting an individualized orientation. The survey also revealed the importance of the preceptor and manager in the perceived success of this generation’s transition and a need to assimilate into the professional role of RN. Recognizing that there is a need to promote a more individualized orientation with improved mentoring for novice nurses and their preceptors is evident and challenges nursing leaders and educators to rethink current practices to retain new nurses. Established roles within the hospital and individual nursing units are changing and traditional strategies for recruitment and retention no longer apply. A structured orientation can facilitate the transition from new graduate to professional nurse and assist in the retention of qualified nurses and ultimately safe patient care.

Adaptation and Validation of a Proteolytic Activity Methodology Using Dye-Crosslinked Substrate Tablets  [PDF]
Fernanda Martins, Elaine C. Ramires
Advances in Enzyme Research (AER) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/aer.2014.23012
Abstract: Enzymatic activities are important to be quantified in products as enzymatic cleaners, which are used in medical and surgical devices reprocessing. Enzymatic activities are critical for the proper chemical cleaning that intends to remove solid organic dirt from inaccessible sites. The most important enzyme for this purpose is the protease, which is able to dissolve the main dirt attached to medical and surgical instruments. In this context, this study contributes to the development of a new proteolytic activity quantification method and its validation. The methodology is based on colorimetry and uses a UV-Vis spectrophotometer to measure the substrate hydrolysis by the blue color intensity, employing Protazyme AK tablets as substrate.
