Telemedicine technologies and effectiveness: A review article

Abstract: Telemedicine is the use of information and communication technologies in order to provide access to medical and health care services whenever a large physical distance exists between patient and the service. Telemedicine is easily accessible for people living in remote regions and people with chronic illnesses who need long time home care. This technology is provided in different services, including telenursing, telepharmacy, telesurgery, telegenetic, telerehabilitation, telehomecare, teletrauma care, telecardiology, telepsychiatry, teleradiology, telepathology, teledermatology, teledentistry, teleaudiology and teleophthalmology. In this article, recent telemedicine technologies which used in developed countries are introduced and the clinical and cost-effectiveness of these services is evaluated.
Blended Learning Approaches in Medical Science: A Review Article

Abstract: Blended learning is a combination of traditional and electronic learning, which utilizes both face-to-face classrooms and information and communication technologies to educate learners. In recent years, blended learning has become a fixed feature within professional educations and has been prioritized by universities around the world, especially medical science universities. Blended learning is being used in medical science education to help improve training in many different areas, including healthcare professionals and students’ education, patients training and global health education. This article discusses blended learning approaches in medical sciences universities. This is a literature review article, which information gathering has been done by using paper and paperless documents related to the topic.
The Impact of First Language Intonational Clue Selection on Second Language Comprehension  [PDF]

Abstract: Comprehension is closely related not only to the knowledge of words and syntax, but also the pragmatic concerns of the discourse. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the impact of the intonational clues selection of Iranian teenagers' and young adults’ Persian listening comprehension ability on their English learning as a second language. According to Buck (2003), in listening comprehension the input in the form of sounds and intonational clues often conveys additional information. In this study 60 male and female teenagers (13 - 19) and 60 male and female young adults (20 - 26) were selected randomly based on Oxford Placement Test (OPT). Each group was randomly assigned to two sub groups; namely, experimental (EX) and control groups (CG), 15 participants in each group. During the study two fiction and non-fiction passages, at first in Persian and then in English, were read to participants. The passages for participants in CG were read without applying speaker’s intonation changes but they were read for participants in EX with applying speaker’s intonation changes. In this study factors as age and gender are important because the results showed that the difference between two groups with different age ranges was significant, and participants’ inferencing, correct clue selection and listening comprehension ability in the experimental group was superior to the control group in the first language (Persian) and it also influenced positively second language learning and inferencing ability (English).

Abstract: Deregulation policy has caused some changes in the concepts of power systems reliability assessment and enhancement. In the present research, generation reliability is considered, and a method for its assessment is proposed using Game Theory (GT) and Neural Networks (NN). Also, due to the stochastic behavior of power markets and generators’ forced outages, Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) is used for reliability evaluation. Generation reliability focuses merely on the interaction between generation complex and load. Therefore, in the research, based on the behavior of players in the market and using GT, two outcomes are considered: cooperation and non-cooperation. The proposed method is assessed on IEEE-Reliability Test System with satisfactory results. Loss of Load Expectation (LOLE) is used as the reliability index and the results show generation reliability in cooperation market is better than non-cooperation outcome.
The Effects of Hydrogen Peroxide Solution and Tetracycline Ointment in Healing of Traumatic Facial Wounds: A Comparative Study

Abstract: Background and objectives Wound repair after a surgical operation or traumatic injuries is a coordinated process, which is highly dependent to the pre- and post-operative or traumatic care. There is no consensus on the best wound care method and application of topical therapeutic agents including diluted oxygen peroxide solution and antibiotics. This study is aimed to compare the healing effects of oxygen peroxide and tetracycline ointment in management of traumatic facial injuries. Methods 76 patients divided into two groups were entered into this randomized clinical trial. All patients sustained facial injuries requiring primary repair. The first group received 2% topical oxygen peroxide solution for 5 days, and the second group received sterile 1% tetracycline topical ointment for 5days. At the end of the fourth day, wound healing status was assessed with a chart designed for this purpose. Results No statistically significant difference was observed between the tetracycline and hydrogen peroxide groups in regards to the distance of wound margins, erythema and dehiscence. Conclusion According to our results, there is no difference in the effects of hydrogen peroxide solution or tetracycline ointment on the healing of traumatic facial wounds.
The Study of Frequency of Nasal Obstruction in Migraine Headaches

Abstract: headache are involved and can induce misdiagnosis in these patients. Many of these patients with nasal congestion believe that the cause of their headache is due to the sinusitis. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of nasal congestion in episodes of migraine headache. Methods: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study on 131 patients which were diagnosed by neurologists based on standard criteria to have had migraine. Sampling was done through non-probability in hand method. The data were gathered with regard to age, sex, type of headache and presence of nasal congestion for each patient. They were then analyzed by chi-square and Fisher’s exact test (p<0/05). Results: Out of 131 patients 18 (13.7%) had nasal congestion in their migraine attacks. 19.8% of patients were male and 80.2 patients were female. There was no meaningful correlation between nasal congestion in migraine patients with their sex, age and type of headache. Conclusion: According to the results of the study there was no meaningful correlation between the type of migraine headache (classic and non-classic) and sex and age .
The Effect of Hydro-Alcoholic Extract of Broccoli Leaves on Sugar and Lipids in Serum of Diabetic Rats

Abstract: Nowadays, no-drug treatments (medicinal plants) are novel therapeutic approaches in the treatment of diabetes. Broccoli is a plant in the cabbage family, whose large flower head is used as a vegetable. The mass of flower heads is surrounded by leaves. Broccoli was derived from cultivated leafy cole crops in the Northern Mediterranean in about the 6th century. This study aimed at assessing the effect of Broccoli leaves extract on the blood glucose and lipid profile in diabetic rats. Thirty male adult rats were randomly selected and divided into three groups as nondiabetic control; diabetic control; diabetic rats treated with hydroalcoholic extract of Broccoli leaves. In diabetic groups, alloxan monohydrate (100 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally to develop diabetes. Then the Test group received intraperitoneal injection of hydro-alcoholic extract of Broccoli leaves (100 mg/kg). At last, glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, VLDL, LDL and insulin contents of the rats' serum sample were determined. Diabetic rats treated with extract showed a significant decrease in blood glucose level (p<0.05). Furthermore, compared diabetic group, in the extract-treated rats, there was a significant decrease in serum contents of total cholesterol (TC) ,LDL,VLDL and TG, but a significant increase in insulin level and HDL (p<0.05). These results show that the hydroalcoholic extract of Broccoli leaves may be effective in the treatment of diabetes. This effect can be due to the presence of flavonoides and their antioxidant features
Antibiotic resistance of enterotoxigenic and entroaggrigative Escherichia coli isolated from gastroenteritis cases

Abstract: Background: Toxigenic strains of Escherichia coli are common enteric pathogens of human. The aim of this study was to detect virulence genes and antibiotic resistance pattern of the enterotoxigenic and enteroaggrigative E. coli isolated from diarhoeal stool samples.Methods: Totally, 234 diarrhoeal stool samples were collected. Microbiological examinations were done to detect the E. coli. PCR was used to identify Lt, Sta, Stb and East1 genes. Antibiotic resistance test was performed using the Disk diffusion method. Results: Out of 114 isolated E. coli, 15(13.5%) harbored Stb, 52(45.61%) East1, 30 (26.31%) Lt gene. The Sta gene was not detected in tested samples. The lowest resistance was for gentamicin (0%) while the highest resistance was for trimethoprim (79.8%). Resistance of E. coli isolates to chloramphenicol, cephotaxime, sulphametoxazole, ciprofloxacin, ampicillin and tetracycline were 3.5%, 7.01%, 71.05%, 10.5%, 52.63% and 3.5%, respectively. Conclusions: Toxigenic E. coli strains perticipated in diarrhoea in Shahrekord-Iran. The high presences of antibiotic resistance have been shown to trimethoprim, sulphametoxazole and ampicillin
The Effect of Hydro-Alcoholic Extract of Morus nigra leaf on Lipids and Sugar in Serum of Diabetic Rats

Abstract: Morus nigra (mulberries) are all widespread in Pakistan, Iran, India, andAfghanistan, where the tree and the fruit are known by the Persian-derivednames king's or "superior" mulberry. Herbs are rich sources of naturalantioxidants, which are used to cure many diseases in traditional medicine.The researches have shown that some herbal extracts have anti-diabeticeffect, so they can be used to lower blood sugar in people with diabetes. 27male adult rats were randomly selected and divided into three groups asnondiabetic control; diabetic control; diabetic rats treated withhydroalcoholic extract of Morus nigra leaf. In diabetic groups, alloxanmonohydrate (100 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally to develop diabetes.Then the Test group received intraperitoneal injection of hydro-alcoholicextract of Morus nigra leaf (100 mg/kg). At last, glucose, cholesterol,triglyceride and HDL contents of the rats' serum sample were determined.The findings show that using hydro-alcoholic extract of Morus nigra leafdecreased glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride contents of diabetic rats'blood serum (p<0.01) and increased HDL content (p>0.05). Considering thesefindings, it is found that Morus nigra leaf can be effective in decreasing bloodsugar and fat in diabetic people.

Abstract:

One of the interesting topics in grid computing systems is resources discovery. After the failure of a resource in a chain of resources made for a specific task in grid environment, discovering and finding a new resource that reconstructs the chain is an important topic. In this study, with defining new agent that is called task agent, and by proposing an algorithm, we will increase the fault tolerance against probable failure of a resource in the resource chain.
