Pentoxifylline in hepatopulmonary syndrome

Abstract: AIM: To determine the effects of pentoxifylline (PTX) on clinical manifestations and evaluate arterial blood gas data in hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) in children. METHODS: In a pilot study of 10 children with chronic liver disease, who had HPS, 20 mg/kg/d PTX was administered for 3 mo. Clinical data and arterial blood gas parameters were evaluated at baseline, the end of the treatment period, and 3 mo after drug discontinuation. RESULTS: Six patients could tolerate PTX, while four patients experienced complications. Among patients who could tolerate PTX, there was a significant increase in arterial oxygen pressure (PaO2) (P = 0.02) and oxygen saturation (SaO2) (P = 0.04) and alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient (P = 0.02) after 3 mo of treatment. Significant decreases in PaO2 (P = 0.02) and alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient (P = 0.02) were also seen after drug discontinuation. CONCLUSION: PTX may improve PaO2, SaO2 and alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient in the early stage of HPS.
Evaluation of Risk Factors Related with Neonatal Patent Ductus Arteriosus in Hospitalized Neonates of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Abstract: Background: Patent ductus arteriosus or patent arterial duct (PDA) is a condition in which a structure called the ductus arteriosus, normal in fetal life, remains into infancy and onwards, when it should have disappeared. Thus, in this study we want to discuss about frequency of its symptoms and risk factors. Materials and Methods: It is a descriptive study which has been done among 100 newborns registered in Ghaem Hospital of Mashhad. Sampling was gathered easily.Results: The most prevalent symptom among newborn babies was systolic heart murmur (89%). According to the obtained risk factors, hypoxia (71%) and acidosis (70%) are followed by prematurity (41%). Out of all registered newborn babies 68% were suffering from associated disorders.Conclusion: For achieving an on-time diagnosis of PDA, clinical examination of heart and respiratory symptoms must be examined very precisely. Newborn babies must be examined in terms of two risk factors: prematurity and light weight.
The use of plastic models for teaching root canal cleansing and shaping

Abstract: The use of root canal models in endodontics education is of high importance. So, in this article"na new method is presented that the students can produce these models with simple and low cost"ninstruments."nThese plastic models are made of polyester which is low cost, available and has the approximate cutting"nproperties of dentin. The best molds were disposable syringes due to their low cost, availability and"nproducing smooth surfaces on polyester models. A spreader with desired curve and tapering is used for"nproducing canals. Rockwell A hardness coefficient of polyester is "33", which is near dentin "31" and"nforeign made models "35.5". Since these polyester models can tolerate up to 280°C and have acceptable"nresistance to chloroform, all root canal therapy techniques such as vertical condensation and retreatments"nare practicable. Their transparency encourage the students to work on them. As a result, the use of these"nmodels is recommended for endodontics training.
LDPC-Coded OFDM Transmission Based on Adaptive Power Weights in Cognitive Radio Systems  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a new scheme to improve the performance of an LDPC-coded OFDM based cognitive radio (CR) link by applying adaptive power weights. To minimize estimation errors of detected signals in all the CR subcarriers, power weights are allocated to the CR subcarriers at the secondary transmitter. Some constraints for the power weights are considered, such as keeping the interference power introduced by the CR to primary users below a given interference threshold and also keeping sum of transmission powers in all CR subcarriers within a total transmission power. The LDPC decoder applies these power weights in the Log Likelihood Ratios (LLRs) used in message passing scheme at the secondary receiver to achieve more reliable communications. So, the received signal in each CR subcarrier will be decoded with the knowledge of transmission power weights, which come from the cognitive feedback channel without additional cost. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme achieves a lower bit error rate and a higher transmission rate compared with those of the same scheme without applying power weights.

Abstract: PLGA/CS nanoparticles containing fluorescein sodium as drug model were synthesized and characterized to investigate the feasibility of laser-induced drug delivery using pulse 532 nm. The main objective was to investigate the photothermally-induced mechanical force for transporting the nanoparticles. An argon laser was used to excite the fluorescence of the samples after irradiation. The preliminary results indicated that the drug nanoparticles encapsulated trapped by the cavitation bubbles can be transported by photothermomechanical effect. Different regions of interactions are defined and while in our case, the thermoelastic does not apply due to higher fluences, vaporization and laser-induced thermal breakdown (LITB) including the plasma formation and shock waves played an important and major role. Threshold fluences of 2.8, 18 and 102 Jcm-2 corresponding to 0.28, 1.8 and 10 GWcm-2 and 3.8, 30, and 171 MPa are determined for ablation, vaporization and LITB mechanisms respectively. The secondary microbubbles due to explosion of the primary transient cavitation bubbles played a key role in delivery process. Despite the dominant argon laser brightness, the laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy (LIFS) demonstrated the fluorescence emission of the cavitation bubbles carrying due to the drug nanoparticles entrapped within the biogelatin after exposure to laser radiation, the irradiation, which confirms the possibility of transport of drug nanoparticles by laser cavitation. Finally, it is suggested that the nature of such photothermal and photo non-thermal mechanical effects is governed and influenced by determining and criticizing in terms of the type of nanomaterial as well as their synthesis process engineering and fabrication as they can be made case sensitive by selecting different types of materials for a specific application.
Mixed convection inside nanofluid filled rectangular enclosures with moving bottom wall

Abstract: The mixed convection fluid flow and heat transfer in lid-driven rectangular enclosures filled with the Al2O3-water nanofluid is investigated numerically. The left and the right vertical walls as well as the top horizontal wall of the enclosure are maintained at a constant cold temperature Tc. The bottom horizontal wall of the enclosure, which moves from left to right, is kept at a constant hot temperature Th, with Th>Tc. The governing equations written in terms of the primitive variables are solved using the finite volume method and the SIMPLER algorithm. Using the developed code, a parametric study is performed and the effects of the Richardson number, the aspect ratio of the enclosure and the volume fraction of the nanoparticles on the fluid flow and heat transfer inside the enclosure are investigated. The results show that at low Richardson numbers, a primary counterclockwise vortex is formed inside the enclosure. More over it is found that for the range of the Richardson number considered, 10-1-101, the average Nusselt number of the hot wall, increases with increasing the volume fraction of the nanoparticles. Also it is observed that the average Nusselt number of the hot wall of tall enclosures is more that to that of the shallow enclosures.

Abstract: Let $G$ be a locally compact group and $omega$ be a symmetric weight function on $G$. We define a co-product $Gamma_omega$ on the weighted algebra $L^infty(G, omega^{-1})$ of essentially $omega$-bounded Borel measurable functions on $G$ and show that $L^infty(G, omega^{-1})$ becomes a Kac algebra with natural co-inverse $kappa_omega$ and Haar weight $phi_omega$. We use the machinery of Kac algebras to introduce the weighted Fourier and Fourier-Stieltjes algebra $ A(G,omega^{-1})$ and $ B(G,omega^{-1})$ of $G$.
A Secure Communication in Mobile Agent System

Abstract: A mobile agent is a software code with mobility which can be move from a computer into another computers through network. The mobile agent paradigm provides many benefits in developments of distributed application at the same time introduce new requirements for security issues with these systems. In this article we present a solution for protection agent from other agents attacks with loging patterns of malicious agent and useing this log for communication. We implemented our resolution by JADE.

Employing Diversity and Similarity Indices to Evaluate Geopedological Soil Mapping in Miyaneh, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran  [PDF]

Abstract: The geopedological viewpoint attempts to distinguish and introduce the smallest map unit that has the highest levels of homogeneity and uniformity with respect to landform, lithology, and soil, especially if the relationship between geomorphology and soils in the region is well defined. This research intended to investigate the degree of validity generalization of results obtained in the geopedology approach for similar landforms in the Miayneh region of East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. For this purpose, soil diversity study was conducted through measuring it in a hierarchical sequence in categories of USDA soil taxonomy and by comparing similar units in the geopedological method through employing pedodiversity and similarity indices. After preparing the initial interpretative map (based on aerial photographs) at a scale of 1:20,000, the HPu211 unit that covered the greatest delineation of study area was selected and 28 soil profiles, about 90 meters apart, were excavated, described, and sampled in this unit. The degree of validity generalization of geopedological results for the mentioned unit was determined by digging 14 other soil profiles in a similar unit, called the validation area, which was located outside of the sample area. Results indicated that the value of Shannon’s diversity index increased from the level of soil order to soil family in both the sample and the generalization areas; however, only at the soil family level were there significant differences between soil diversity in the two areas at the confidence level of 95%. As well as classification of the profiles dug in the generalization area was different from that of the profiles dug in the sample area at the category of soil family. Therefore, it is possible that management generalizability in this method, even at the detailed scale, can satisfy the related needs. Consequently, interpretative or managerial purity of geopedological units must be considered in future research.
