Replacement of Process Scale Chromatography by Counterflow Membrane Cascades  [PDF]
Edwin N. Lightfoot, Bar?? ünal
Advances in Bioscience and Biotechnology (ABB) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/abb.2014.511106
Abstract: Invention and innovation, always important, become ever more so in these fast changing and competitive times. They are in addition primarily dependent upon the dynamic behavior of the human mind. Our underlying purpose here is to examine these creative processes and to provide means to make them more effective. This is a timely effort because our understanding of perception and its interpretation by the human brain is very rapidly advancing. Even experimental insights into mental activity can be determined with rapidly increasing effectiveness. The framework of our discussion is that of evolution dynamics, and the scientific bases are rapidly developing neural sciences. However the bulk of our discussion deals with a specific example: the replacement of process scale chromatography by membrane-mediated steady counterflow in downstream processing. We do this because inventive activities must depend upon intimate knowledge of the systems available.
An Exploratory Study on the Electronic Word of Mouth Communication in Promoting Brands in the Online Platforms  [PDF]
B. N. Malar Selvi, J. Edwin Thomson
Intelligent Information Management (IIM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/iim.2016.85010
Abstract: This study discusses on the communication method followed by most of the brands called. “Electronic Word of Mouth” in a short form is called as eWOM in order to reach the customers effectively in a short span. Social media having become a new hybrid component of integrated marketing communication allows the brands to establish strong relationship with the customers. With the establishment of customer relationship online, the brands create a platform for the customers to discuss about the product features, quality, price and write a review about the product online. This research analyses about the social media and its impact in spreading the messages about the brands to the end customers and the impact of gender, age groups, income, designation and the demographic details of the customers in trusting the information that is spread through electronic media and the level at which the eWOM helps the customers to select the brand.
Alcances de la fe en la época contemporánea
Arteaga Tobón,Edwin;
Revista Lasallista de Investigación , 2008,
Abstract: in a laicized world like the western, which looks for orientation, faith is carefully heard, even though its proposals are not always accomplished. christian faith counts and will continue counting, on further achievements, a fact which we cannot have doubt about.
The ecology of languages
Lightfoot, David;
DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502007000300004
Abstract: this paper discusses the life-cycle of languages: languages die, new languages are born, and languages undergo radical changes in form and structure. this paper considers three changes in the history of english: loss of split genitives, introduction of new inflectional categories, and loss of verb movement. the proposal is that these changes are the result of children's reanalysis during language acquisition, based on the interaction between primary linguistic data and universal grammar. these processes of i-language reanalysis lead to the gradual emergence of new e-languages.
How long was the nineteenth century?
LIGHTFOOT, David;
DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502000000300003
Abstract: this paper reviews the problems of the deterministic and predictive view of language change initiated by nineteenth century linguists and shows that such a view is still present in many analyses proposed by twentieth century linguists. as an alternative to such a view, the paper discusses an approach along the lines of niyogi and berwick (1997), which takes the explanation for long-term tendencies to be a function of the architecture of ug and the learning procedure and of the way in which populations of speakers behave.

The Schneiderman-Teichner invariant applied to immersions arising from link maps in $S^4$
Ash Lightfoot
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: It is shown that Schneiderman and Teichner's invariant $\tau$ detects the example due to Kirk of a link map $f:S^2_+\cup S^2_-\to S^4$ for which the restricted map $f|S^2_+:S^2_+\to S^4-f(S^2_-)$ has vanishing Wall self-intersection but is not homotopic to an embedding.
ELIMINACIóN DE “INCONSISTENCIAS” OBSERVADAS EN EL DISE?O DE SECCIONES T DE HORMIGóN ESTRUCTURAL SOMETIDAS A FLEXIóN úLTIMA
GIL,EDWIN; CASTRILLóN,ELKIN;
DYNA , 2007,
Abstract: for the determination of the flexure capacity of concrete sections different algorithms according to the section form are set out. naaman [5] observes an "inconsistency" in the design of t sections, proposes an adjustment to the expressions given in previous specifications, that are adopted in some of the recent design codes, determining variations in the results, such as bending moments significantly smaller than ones obtained with previous specifications. these results have created restlessness among other authors. in this paper the "inconsistency" observed by naaman [5] is analyzed and a general adimensional analysis is proposed to eliminates the "observed inconsistency" and find the correct solution of the problem within the established specifications.
De Tribus, de emos: de jóvenes en una sociedad débil y de riesgo
Montes Marín,Edwin Alonso;
Revista Lasallista de Investigación , 2009,
Abstract: the purpose of this essay is an approach with sociological, anthropological, psychological and with certain interpretative keys, in order to understand what is going on with young people in their historical evolution, looking at their context to identify and analyze their characteristics. this reflection invites us to assume, with solidarity and professionalism, an attitude of listening, respect and companionship towards the cry that young people, emos or not, are shouting to the society asking us to look at them, to read their symbolic capitals and to take them out from that "subtle abandon" we have surely submitted them from the families, the education and from this hyper individualist society. this is about the evolution of the looks and the arrival of a new kind of person, achieving a demonstration of how, in this re-signification process, new points of view, practices and aesthetics appear, and they do it with the capacity of inspiring and / or consolidating new tendencies. these tendencies seem to be a shout from young people telling us: "we are here! observe us not looking for our external appearance, but for what is inside us".
