Valor prognóstico da interleucina-6 na evolu o de pacientes com síndrome coronariana aguda sem supradesnivelamento de segmento ST =Prognostic value of interleukin-6 in the outcome of patients with acute coronary syndrome without ST-segment elevation

Abstract: Objetivos: Identificar o valor prognóstico da interleucina-6 (IL-6) em pacientes com síndrome coronariana aguda sem supradesnivelamento de segmento ST internados na Unidade Coronariana do Hospital S o Lucas da PUCRS. Métodos: Foram selecionados 90 pacientes consecutivos com síndrome coronariana aguda sem supradesnivelamento de segmento ST, acompanhados por um período médio de 29,4 meses, em busca de desfechos tais como: óbito, infarto agudo do miocárdio, angina instável e cirurgia de revasculariza o miocárdica nos períodos de 30 dias, 60 dias, 6 meses, 1 ano e maior que 1 ano. Os pacientes foram divididos em 2 grupos, com valores de IL-6 acima ou abaixo do percentil 50, correspondentes a um ponto de corte de 3,7 (unidade de medida conforme padroniza o do laboratório DPC-Medlab). Resultados: Através de regress o logística, foi determinado que níveis de IL-6 > 3,7 estavam associados a um maior risco de infarto agudo do miocárdio após o período total de acompanhamento do estudo (OR 5,5; 95% IC 1,5-20,4; p 0,01). Conclus es: Níveis elevados de IL-6 podem estar associados a um pior desfecho cardiovascular nesse grupo de pacientes em suas diversas formas de apresenta o e em distintos períodos de acompanhamento. Aims: To identify the prognostic value of interleukin- 6 (IL-6) in patients with acute coronary syndrome without ST-segment elevation admitted to the Coronary Care Unit of Hospital S o Lucas da PUCRS. Methods: Ninety consecutive patients with acute coronary syndrome without ST-segment elevation were selected for the study and followed for an average period of 29. 4 months, analyzing the occurrence of the following adverse outcomes: death, acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina and a myocardial revascularization procedure in periods of 30 days, 60 days, 6 months, 1 year and more than 1 year. Patients were divided in 2 groups, according to IL-6 values, those with higher or lower values than the median (50 percentile value), corresponding to a cut-off point of 3. 7 (DPC-Medlab). Results: By logistic regression analyses it was found that IL-6 levels > 3. 7 were associated with an increased risk of acute myocardial infarction after the total follow-up period of the study (OR 5. 5; 95% IC 1. 5-20. 4; p 0. 010). Conclusions: Increased IL-6 levels may be associated with poorer cardiovascular outcomes in the follow-up of patients after an acute coronary syndrome event.
Emergence of classicality in small number entangled systems

Abstract: We show the transition from a fully quantized interaction to a semiclassical one in entangled small number quantum systems using the quantum trajectories approach. In particular, we simulate the microwave Ramsey zones used in Rydberg atom interferometry, filling in the gap between the strongly entangling Jaynes Cummings evolution and the semiclassical rotation of the atomic internal states. We also correlate the information flowing with leaking photons to the entanglement generation between cavity field and flying atom and detail the roles played by the strong dissipation and the external driving force in preserving atomic coherence through the interaction.
A Matrix-Product-Operator Approach to the Nonequilibrium Steady State of Driven-Dissipative Quantum Arrays

Abstract: We develop a numerical procedure to efficiently model the nonequilibrium steady state of one-dimensional arrays of open quantum systems, based on a matrix-product operator ansatz for the density matrix. The procedure searches for the null eigenvalue of the Liouvillian superoperator by sweeping along the system while carrying out a partial diagonalization of the single-site stationary problem. It bears full analogy to the density-matrix renormalization group approach to the ground state of isolated systems, and its numerical complexity scales as a power law with the bond dimension. The method brings considerable advantage when compared to the integration of the time-dependent problem via Trotter decomposition, as it can address arbitrarily long-ranged couplings. Additionally, it ensures numerical stability in the case of weakly dissipative systems thanks to a slow tuning of the dissipation rates along the sweeps. We have tested the method on a driven-dissipative spin chain, under various assumptions for the Hamiltonian, drive, and dissipation parameters, and compared the results to those obtained both by Trotter dynamics and Monte-Carlo wave function. Accurate and numerically stable convergence was always achieved when applying the method to systems with a gapped Liouvillian and a non-degenerate steady-state.

Abstract: the accurate determination of the clay component contents of latosols can contribute for the improvement of both use and management of such soils. in this research, the kaolinite and gibbsite contents of iron-free clay in latosols were determined by differential scanning calorimetry (dsc) and with the application of the rietveld method to x-ray diffraction data for comparison with mineral contents calculated by the allocation method. it is likely that crystallographic differences between kaolinite and gibbsite used in the dsc calibrations and the kaolinites and gibbsites in the samples were responsible for the inaccuracy of the mineral contents evaluated by this thermal method. the rietveld method determined gibbsite contents almost identical to those calculated by the allocation method and kaolinite contents with acceptable similarity to the ones calculated by the allocation of total sio2 iron-free clay contents.
Physically Realizable Entanglement by Local Continuous Measurements

Abstract: Quantum systems prepared in pure states evolve into mixtures under environmental action. Physically realizable ensembles are the pure state decompositions of those mixtures that can be generated in time through continuous measurements of the environment. Here, we define physically realizable entanglement as the average entanglement over realizable ensembles. We optimize the measurement strategy to maximize and minimize this quantity through local observations on the independent environments that cause two qubits to disentangle in time. We then compare it with the entanglement bounds for the unmonitored system. For some relevant noise sources the maximum realizable entanglement coincides with the upper bound, establishing the scheme as an alternative to locally protect entanglement. However, for local strategies, the lower bound of the unmonitored system is not reached.

Abstract: Stress disrupts the medial prefrontal cortex (PFC) networks required for consciousness, abstract construal, self-referential thinking, reward circuitry and theory-of-mind functions. We used stress assessment inventories to survey a cohort of 113 women for self-reported stress over a 5 - 10-year period. We identified two subsets of women consistently reporting either high (n = 21) or low (n = 24) stress over this period. These cohorts answered the eSAIL, REM and Apathy Evaluation Scale questionnaires. Significant differences were found between cohorts in apathy and REM scores, as well as in RD, self-agency and abstraction, but not in other subscales of the eSAIL.

Abstract: in this study, the brazilian legislation regarding the permanent protected areas (app) and the water resources was investigated by simultaneously analyzing the available legal instruments and the current vegetation cover in the araguaia river basin. through the normalized difference vegetation index (ndvi), applied to a cbers ii mosaic, comprising 21 satellite imagery (july-august, 2006), we detected a land conversion of about 61% in the study area as a whole, and of about 45% along the riparian zone. these figures corroborate the need of a stronger compliance, by the landowners, to the forest code, and fast pace decisions by local and federal authorities, so that new deforestations, in the araguaia basin and other important areas in the cerrado biome, can be either prevented or reduced.

Abstract: the aluminum tolerance of four soybean cultivars was studied in nutrient solutions using different levels of this element combined with three different salt concentrations. the results showed that to separate the tolerant from the susceptible cultivars at 1mg al3+/liter, the salt concentration of 1/10 of the complete nutrient solution was sufficient. the combination of 5mg al3+/liter with 1/2 salt concentration can also be used considering the root length of the primary root as the parameter. the tops and root dry matter weight increased as the salt concentration in solution increased, independent of the al3+ concentration. higher ca, mg and k and lower al concentrations were observed in the tops as the concentration of the salt in the solution was increased. this decrease in al concentration was less evident for the cultivar biloxi at both levels, 1 and 5mg al3+/liter.

Abstract: a pot experiment in the greenhouse was conducted using isolineas d71.93.20 (nodulating) and d71.93.31 (non-nodulating) to study the effect of nitrogen application as side dressing on the dry matter yield at flowering time and seed yield. the treatments consisted of 1) d71.93.30 + inoculante, 2) d71.93.30 + inoculante + n; 3) d71.93.31 and 4) d71.93.31 + n. the nitrogen was applied at the rate of 50 kg/ha of n in the form of ammonium sulphate. the results showed that there were no big differences in the production of dry matter harvested at the time of flowering but the seed production in d71.93.31 was greatly affected by nitrogen deficiency even when nitrogen was side dressed. in d71.93.30 which nodulate there was no response to n applied as side dressing, which was confirmed by concentration of n observed in leaves, seeds and seed yield.

Abstract: two experiments were conducted in nutrient solution to study the level of al necessary to separate tolerant cultivars from the susceptible. in the first experiment the levels of al were 0, 5, 10 and 20mg/l and two cultivars cristalina and ufv-1 were studied. these levels were found to be too high as they had drastic effect on the primary roots after 7 days of transplanting. based on this data another experiment was conducted using 0, 1, 2 and 4mg/l of al and using cultivars lee, bragg, cristalina and ufv-1. the results showed that the length of the primary root was the best parameter as compared with dry weight of the above ground parts and roots to evaluate tolerance of soybeans to al. the level of 1mg/l was adequate to separate the susceptible from the tolerant and the levels of 2 and 4mg/l caused drastic reduction in the length of the primary root for all cultivars tested. the cultivars lee and cristalina showed to be tolerant, whereas bragg intermediate and ufv-1 was the most susceptible among the four cultivars tested.
