Silva,Eduardo;
Teología y vida , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492009000100005
Abstract: the challenge of outlining a theology of the latin american "signs of the times" is nourished as much by the hermeneutic novelty of the council as by the hermeneutic novelty of liberation theology. the conciliar mandate grants validity to the attempts assumed by latin american theology to be the interpretation of the signs of the continent. the partiality and limits of liberation theology fail to completely overshadow the theological novelty of a council in which the church, for the first time, understands itself as truly universal and breaks with neoscholastic conceptuality in order to be able to think relationally about the other. quite to the contrary, despite its limits liberation theology maintains its validity as an interpretation of the times taking place in relation to a new horizon which, overcoming the metaphysics of substance and subject, takes on the perspective of the poor, and the primacy of praxis. with this legacy the future of a theology that is at once both latin american and of the signs of god must accept some fundamental hermeneutic considerations that permit it to be a theology of our time: its modern, metaphoric, plural and open character that is open to other meanings, and provisional in its theological language. the dialectic between event and meaning that is at the heart of these considerations will allow one to capture the theological meaning of events.
Silva,Eduardo;
Teología y vida , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492008000300004
Abstract: as a closing perspective at a colloquium dedicated to social catholicism, this article recognizes, in the first section, the crisis in the social discourse of the church. this crisis is not exclusively a present reality, but is also found in the origins and history of a tradition that is considered to be one of the precedents to conciliar renewal, which in its dialogue with the world invites modern times into theology and ethics. the future of this tradition in crisis demands recourse to philosophical reason and historical reality. so, in the second part, the contributions of the political philosophies of paúl ricoeur and charles taylor in three mayor themes are considered: the good with respect to the just, holism as opposed to atomism, and collective rights in contrast to the exclusivity of individual rights. finally, in the third part, compiling its legacy and these philosophical contributions, the author reflects on the contributions of latin american social catholicism to a continent in which the processes of commercialization, de-politicization and individualism, which accompany this late globalized modernity, threaten our historie communities with dissolution into featureless societies, culturally without identity. the living traditions of the continent, both secular and religious, and among them, catholicism, are their greatest resource for confronting this challenge, which adds the liberal question to the social question.

Silva,Eduardo; Silva,Carmen;
Psykhe (Santiago) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22282010000200005
Abstract: the article by martínez, silva, and hernández (in this issue) argues that chilean youth have disengaged from participation in conventional socio-political institutions because they believe that the sociopolitical system does not validate the persons, violates their rights, is highly inequitable, and excludes them from having a real voice in public decision-making. this perception clashes with their values of fraternity and a just and dignified development for everyone. this essay examines if these beliefs have a real basis in the structure and logic of the economic and political model they criticize. this issue is analyzed from a political economy perspective, built on the assumption that economic and political structures determine social subjects, their interests, and their relative power. a direct association was found between the logic of chile's political-economic model and the feelings of exclusion that the interviewees expressed.

Psykhe (Santiago) , 2010,
Fishermen and Territorial Trends in the Brazilian Fisheries Policies  [PDF]
Christian Nunes da Silva, Eduardo Schiavone Cardoso
International Journal of Geosciences (IJG) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ijg.2015.64027
Abstract: The fishing activity has been known for centuries by man and is configured as an important source of livelihood and income for many families of Brazilian fishermen. This article tries to do a brief contextualization of fishing in Brazil, as well as discuss the notion of territoriality of sector policies. The trend shown for the future is the need for a planning/mapping of operation areas of productive agents in the country, so that fish stocks can be managed more appropriately. One of the proposals that comes with acceptance and is already being applied in some municipalities is fishing agreements, using co-management mechanisms for planning and use of fisheries resources.
