Abstract: Cervical cancer remains one of the greatest killers of women worldwide. According to Globocan 2000, it is estimated that in 2000 the numbers of patients diagnosed with and those who died from this disease were 470,606 and 233,372, respectively [1]. It is remarkable that these rates occur despite the fact that cervical cancer is a model for early detection due to its long and relatively well-known natural history, which offers an excellent opportunity for its detection before lesions become invasive [2].Cervical cancer is currently staged clinically according the International Federation of Gynecology and Obststrics (FIGO) guidelines. In terms of treatment, invasive disease can be divided into three main groups: 1) early stage going from microinvasive disease IA1, IA2 to macroscopic disease confined to cervix and measuring <4 cm, IB1; 2) locally advanced FIGO stages IB2-IVA, and 3) IVB and recurrent disease [3].The recommended treatment for IA1 patients is either a local procedure such as conization or total hysterectomy depending on the patient's desire to remain fertile, whereas for IA2 patients the recommended procedure is a radical one including pelvic lymphadenectomy. On average, 8% of cases shows positive pelvic lymph nodes. As many women at this disease stage deserve to preserve fertility, radical trachelectomy is becoming an option for these patients. The same can apply for IB1 patients. In early cases that are surgically treated, the presence in the surgical specimen of a combination of intermediate-risk factors (vascular and lymphatic permeation, tumor size >2 cm, and deep cervical stroma invasion) or high-risk factors (positive pelvic lymph nodes, parametrial infiltration, and positive surgical margins) dictates use of adjuvant radiation or chemoradiation respectively. As a group, the prognosis of early-stage cases is fairly good with 5-year survival exceeding 90% [4,5]Results of treatment for these patients are far from optimal. In this regard, treatment

Abstract: Poco a poco, y casi sin darme cuenta, he ido descubriendo cómo funciona TagEditor y he ido abandonando la combinación de Word y Trados, que a veces puede resultar incómoda. ----------------------------------------------- TagEditor is more than just an icon in the Trados folder. Gradually and almost without realizing it, I've discovered how TagEditor works and progressively abandoned the combination of Word and Trados that sometimes can be awkward. This article only lists the reasons why I've made this change, after eventually realizing that the advantages of working with TagEditor, without the need of becoming an expert, outweigh those of working with Translator's Workbench and Word.

Cervera, J.
Informes de la Construccion , 2010,
Abstract: This paper offers a brief analysis of the drawbacks that can be found with the usual partial security coefficients, as loads multipliers, when employed for the measurement of the distance to the collapse condition in such structures, as masonry arches, that have important anisotropies or lacks tensile strength. To deal with such difficulties the paper presents a simple and robust security criterium based on a contraction of the yield surface. That criterium, that performs identically in isotropic structures to those usually employed, can however deal consistently with situations where former criteria fail. The criterium is applied to sections with double symmetry under axial load and unsymmetrical bending, in materials with and without tension resistance. It is also applied to the prism stability problem, showing the advantages in the caracterization of such problems.

Abstract: In this study, a new naphthalene-prazosin derivative (compound 5) was synthetized with the objective of evaluating its activity on ischemia/reperfusion injury. The Langendorff technique was used to evaluate the effect of the compound 5 on ischemia/reperfusion injury. Additionally, the mechanism of action involved in the activity exerted by the compound 5 on perfusion pressure and coronary resistance was evaluated by measuring left ventricular pressure in absence or presence of following compounds; prazosin, metoprolol, indomethacin and nifedipine. The results showed that the compound 5 reduced infarct size compared with the control conditions. Other results showed that the compound 5 significantly increases (p = 0.05) the perfusion pressure and coronary resistance in isolated rat heart. In addition, other data indicate that the compound 5 increases left ventricular pressure in a dose-dependent manner (0.001 to 100 nM); however, this phenomenon was significantly inhibited by nifedipine at a dose of 1 nM (p = 0.05) and this effect was independent of cAMP levels. In conclusion, these data suggest that the naphthalene-prazosin derivative exerts a cardio protective effect via the calcium channels activation and consequently induces changes in the left ventricular pressure levels. This phenomenon results in a decrease of myocardial necrosis after ischemia and reperfusion.
Antiphospholipid syndrome
Gerard Espinosa, Ricard Cervera
Arthritis Research & Therapy , 2008, DOI: 10.1186/ar2536
Abstract: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is characterized by venous or arterial thromboses, fetal losses and thrombocytopenia, in the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) (namely lupus anticoagulant (LA)), anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL) or antibodies directed to various proteins, mainly beta 2-glycoprotein I (β2GPI), or in the presence of all three [1].Despite the strong association between aPL and thrombosis, the pathogenic role of aPL in the development of thrombosis has not been fully elucidated. The aPL have been implicated in reactions that interfere with almost all known hemostatic and endothelial cell reactions [2]. Some evidence regarding the effect of aPL on the complement has been described recently, and related to pregnancy complications and thrombosis [3]. Given the heterogeneity of clinical manifestations in APS it is likely that more than one pathophysiological process may play a role.Regarding the clinical spectrum of APS, any combination of vascular occlusive events may occur in the same individual and the time interval between the events also varies considerably from weeks to months or even years. Deep vein thrombosis is the most frequently reported manifestation in this syndrome, whereas cerebrovascular accidents are the most common arterial thrombotic manifestations. Early and late fetal losses, premature births and pre-eclampsia are the most frequent fetal and obstetric manifestations [4]. Additionally, several other clinical features such as thrombocytopenia, livedo reticularis, and heart valve lesions are relatively common in these patients. Finally, a large variety of unusual clinical manifestations, with prevalence <5%, have been described in APS patients. These unusual manifestations include, among others, large peripheral artery occlusions, chorea, transverse myelopathy, adult respiratory distress syndrome, and avascular necrosis of the bone [5].With respect to the treatment of APS, there is consensus in treating patients with APS and fir
Capellà -Cervera,Joan- Enric;
Estudios y perspectivas en turismo , 2006,
Abstract: this research paper contributes to the understanding of tourist spatial behaviour by use of participant observation in new fijian resorts. tourism development in fiji has been uneven distributed and influenced by socio-political instability since last 50 years. fijian matured tourist resorts are medium-high market oriented; however the yasawas archipelago targets those segments that belong to the low market, namely backpacking. backpackers' spatial behaviour is determined by two types of factors: internal factors are related to their passive motivation and their perception of a non well-planned environment. external factors are related to (1) the lack of efficiency in management processes, (2) place conditions, and (3) the quality of the environment, which restricts the tourist spatial behaviour. participant observation has qualitatively contributed to a new understanding of the topic, which is frequently approached by use of surveys and interviews. therefore, combination of techniques seems to be necessary.

Abstract: the necessity to improve the quality and equity in public education is the framework in which this experiment of a radical change at the level of basic education, a change that is underpinned by the conviction and the free participation of teachers and pupils. the experiment developed in the margins of the educational system and, like contagious elements, has been spreading as an efficient solution for an increasing number of schools in the country. by means of the tutorial relations teachers and pupils actually live through an efficient way of teaching and learning. the satisfaction about the results highlights the importance of answering to the academic needs, the motivation and the cultural environment of each individual. the public demonstration of what has been learned, and the tutorship amongst peers is beginning to transform the classroom into a learning community in which all the people are becoming able to learn and teach. the personal relations necessarily encourage quality and equity in public education.
