La cuestión del sujeto individual y grupal en sociedades multiculturales en transformación

Abstract: El objetivo de este trabajo es examinar la emergencia de dos actores sociales contemporáneos importantes, aunque no siempre considerados: los individuos y los grupos minoritarios social y culturalmente activos en los espacios privado y público. se adopta como principal referencia de análisis la teoría de las representaciones sociales de Moscovici, según la cual los individuos y grupos en la vida social moderna y urbana, tienden a construir su destino a partir de la acción y el pensamiento. Según resultados de investigaciones en Brasil, fue posible observar que individuos y grupos étnicos minoritarios sin poder fueron los que más mostraron búsqueda de autonomía, diferenciación y demarcación de fronteras sociales. El autor sugiere realizar investigaciones y adoptar políticas públicas que permitan una mayor promoción de esas orientaciones sociales.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to present a method of analysis for social representations (sr) based on grammatical elements. this method was described through a research about sr of music among musicians (n=57) and listeners (n=234) from the city rio de janeiro. questions were asked about the definition of music and the description of likes and dislikes regarding music production and consumption. drawing on grammatical/thematic content analysis many categories were described and clustered in three groups according to the prevalence of grammatical elements: descriptive/objective - based on nouns; effects/uses - prevalence of verbs and expressions (e.g. "it is to", "it makes me"); and rhetorical - based on adverbs and adjectives. these categories allowed us to observe more specifically the processes of objectivation (descriptive), and anchoring (effects/uses), as well as attitudinal elements (rhetorical). further, the process of analysis, and its implications and limits were discussed.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to study the social representations of homosexuality among college students, according to sexual orientation and sex. one free association question about the word homosexuality and another about is possible causes were answered. the data was analyzed according to the principles of content analysis. there were significant differences among the groups, allowing us to find out different ways of understanding/dealing with homosexuality and facing prejudice/discrimination. the homosexual men publicly justified/legitimated (rights, freedom) homosexuality with the argument/representation that it is uncontrollable/natural, while the homosexual women preferred to build and improve interaction agreements on the interpersonal level (family, love affair) to obtain social recognition. yet the heterosexual men and women, with many references to normality and others contents that reinforce the social conventions, pointed out less possibility of recognition towards homosexuality.

Abstract: this paper aimed at contributing to the education in social psychology in brazil, raising the teaching contents/practices of such topic in courses of psychology in institutions located in all the regions of the country. the research consisted of the survey of diverse material related to the teaching of social psychology, through summaries, programs and questionnaires and the recommended bibliography. 51 professors of social psychology answered the questionnaire; and other information regarding summaries and programs was collected in institutions. the data was submitted to content analysis, organized in tables and statistically tested. the teaching of psychology is carried out drawing on descriptive concepts/phenomena, where topics of the field are more valued to the detriment of theoretical trends; hence practices and methods were less mentioned/emphasized. the results are interpreted as a search to raise psychology course students' awareness of the social problems related to social psychology.

Abstract: we observed patients' social perceptions about professionals as minimizers/ maximizers of stress experienced in an intensive care unit. our assumption was that the situation of an intensive care unit contributes to the appearance of phenomena that change subjective perceptions in order to deal with health/disease matters. the method consisted of applying a questionnaire to evaluate stressful factors in an intensive care unit, and it included certain questions about who would be responsible for provoking the specific stresses experienced. we analyzed relationships between these professionals and some of the dimensions of that experience: individual (patient), inter-individual (patient and other people) and intergroup (patient and professionals). there were 85 participants and we employed the pearson′s correlation and chi-square tests. the most stressful aspects were those related to the individual dimension, while the least stressful were related to physical structure and intergroup relations. we observed that the team was the figure most associated with stress, which points to a certain dilution of responsibility. there was more emphasis on the physical than the psychosocial aspects in an intensive care unit.

Abstract: we aimed at inferring psychosocial causes of success and failure among students. we assumed that there are anticipatory representations based on instrumental actions and others, based on results. we interviewed 30 former students of university admission courses for low income people in the countryside of the state of rio de janeiro. the questions dealt with the course's contributions to their learning, its positive and negative aspects; self-evaluation of their lives currently and in the future. we found two representational models: well-succeeded students centered in action and unsuccessful students centered in results. additionally, we noticed the formation of a group dynamic in which the well-succeeded conveyed unfavorable contents about "student as group" and favorable ones about "teacher", and the unsuccessful students tended to withdraw from these relationships. therefore, we propose the creation of reflection groups to boost both the internal individual and the external social relationships.

Abstract: remembrances of young jews and non-jews were analyzed to infer patterns of social influence adopted by their parents and ancestors. we suppose that the ways of influencing among jews is related to a search of autonomy, differentiation and demarcation of interindividual/intergroup boundaries, which is the opposite among non-jews. the participants were students from two private high schools. subgroups were formed according to surnames: ashkenazim (german jews), ashkenazim/sephardim (iberian jews), jews/non-jews and non-jews. they reported remembrances of parents and ancestors, going back until the 5th generation; simulated a self-introduction to a person with a different religious background; indicated places abroad where they would live; and mentioned ten surnames other than their families'. influence models of jewish students emphasized individual and group aspects of family life, while non-jews emphasized inter-individual relationships. the jews' self-introduction to others revealed emphasis on their own and others' group aspects, while non-jews emphasized courtesy/politeness.

Abstract: We examined the relationships between self-representations and moral decision. We worked with the formulations about self-representations according to psychosocial approach. Secondary students in Rio de Janeiro took part in this research. They answered about two moral dilemmas of accusation of cheating on a test school and teasing a colleague. In addition, they were asked the question: who are you? Could you introduce yourself? They were asked to make a decision whether to keep promise (KP) to a friend (who cheated or lied) or to tell the truth (TT) to teacher/colleagues. We found different self-representation patterns, mainly to the moral decision with colleagues. TT was associated to group identity, moral value, collective category, meanwhile KP to positive interpersonal relation and collective category. Furthermore, we found association between TT and Evangelical identication and non-White ethnic identification. The results were discussed as self-representations which strengthen/weaken autonomy, differentiation and delimitation of interindividual and intergroup boundaries.

Abstract: En este artículo se analiza el problema de la identidad vasca de acuerdo al marco teórico de la psicosociología. A través de un estudio de campo, los autores destacan dos vertientes antagónicas con respecto a esta problemática: una afirma que es suficiente saber/usar la lengua vasca y compartir la cultura vasca y otra defiende que ella es resultado de una identidad distinta, que debe de ser mantenida separada y autónoma. La consecuencia es, en el primer caso, un ejercicio de inclusión amplia asociado a los que votan por mantener el País Vasco ligado a Espa a y, en el segundo, uno de ruptura y demarcación de fronteras intergrupales asociado a los que ansían mantenerlo separado y autónomo.
