Spacial and Temporal Variation of Degradation of Organic Matter by Benthic Macroinvertebrates  [PDF]
Ana Ribeiro, Natividade Vieira
Journal of Environmental Protection (JEP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jep.2013.411A001
Abstract:

Leaf litter input from riparian landscapes has been identified as both a major energy flow to stream ecosystems and as a food source for stream macroinvertebrates. In this study the benthic macroinvertebrate community was used to evaluate the decomposition of organic matter in river systems. The aim of this work was to study the decomposition of organic matter using the benthic macroinvertebrate colonization. The research was developed over five months (January 2011 to May 2011) in four different sites, distributed along the River Ferreira terminal area, northern Portugal. A litter bag experiment was used to examine the role of macroinvertebrate communities in the processing of organic material on the river. Litter bags were placed in the water and collected every 7, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. In litter bags was observed a high abundance of Oligochaeta and Chironomidae, which are characterized by being detritivorous-herbivores and filtering collectors, respectively, indicating the benthic macroinvertebrate more involved on the decomposition of organic matter. These results contributed to increase current knowledge about benthic macroinvertebrate communities and may serve as incentive for future research works.

Label-Free Electrochemical Detection of the Specific Oligonucleotide Sequence of Dengue Virus Type 1 on Pencil Graphite Electrodes

Sensors , 2011, DOI: 10.3390/s110605616
Abstract: A biosensor that relies on the adsorption immobilization of the 18-mer single-stranded nucleic acid related to dengue virus gene 1 on activated pencil graphite was developed. Hybridization between the probe and its complementary oligonucleotides (the target) was investigated by monitoring guanine oxidation by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The pencil graphite electrode was made of ordinary pencil lead (type 4B). The polished surface of the working electrode was activated by applying a potential of 1.8 V for 5 min. Afterward, the dengue oligonucleotides probe was immobilized on the activated electrode by applying 0.5 V to the electrode in 0.5 M acetate buffer (pH 5.0) for 5 min. The hybridization process was carried out by incubating at the annealing temperature of the oligonucleotides. A time of five minutes and concentration of 1 μM were found to be the optimal conditions for probe immobilization. The electrochemical detection of annealing between the DNA probe (TS-1P) immobilized on the modified electrode, and the target (TS-1T) was achieved. The target could be quantified in a range from 1 to 40 nM with good linearity and a detection limit of 0.92 nM. The specificity of the electrochemical biosensor was tested using non-complementary sequences of dengue virus 2 and 3.
Natividade, Marcelo;
Religi?o & Sociedade , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-85872010000200006
Abstract: this article examines the movement of churches in brazil that call themselves "inclusionary", and identified in the media between 1990 and 2000 as "gay churches." it focuses on the rise of the metropolitan community church in brazil - a well-known activist denomination created in 1968 in the united states and its transformation into the contemporary christian church. it analyzes how this church established itself based on local influences and a dialog with ideas from hegemonic religious systems. the paper argues that the implantation of this group encompasses regional variations provided by notions that come from the passages and mediations realized by the subjects between their communities of origin and their adhesion to a new religious alternative. it examines some models and images of homosexuality cultivated and produced in this plural movement.

Abstract: this article focuses on the ways of sexuality regulation in evangelical pastoral perspectives from the analysis of normative texts. the author also discusses the notion of cure of homosexuality. the ethnographic material is composed both of books and brazilian and foreign articles selected from a mapping out of the evangelical editorial universe and of the monitoring of contents at sites offering counseling and treatment to homosexuals from a religious perspective. data was collected between 2003 and 2004.
Natividade, Michelle Regina da;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822009000300015
Abstract: this article discourses the configuration of the professional identity of the military firemen from the region of the greater florianópolis, sc. to contemplate such general objective, the specific objectives and the theoretical referencial focused on: characterization of the profession, identity, work, professional choice and quality of life. as method, the research was defined as exploratory and descriptive, delineated as a survey. an half-open questionnaire was used. the data was analyzed in a qualitative and quantitative form. participated in the research, 266 "pra?as" of the 1st firemen battalion. with this research, it was possible to conclude that these professionals feel themselves carried through with their profession although complaints exist, which are not on the content of the profession, but on the lack of conditions to fulfil it and on organizacional aspects. these citizens "live" the profession even outside their working hours. it was also possible to verify that, as well as the theories affirm, the work is a constituent factor of the identity of the citizen.

Best approximation with wavelets in weighted Orlicz spaces
Maria de Natividade
Mathematics , 2009,
Abstract: Democracy functions of wavelet admissible bases are computed for weighted Orlicz Spaces in terms of its fundamental function. In particular, we prove that these bases are greedy if and only if the Orlicz space is a Lebesgue space. Also, sharp embeddings for the approximation spaces are given in terms of weighted discrete Lorentz spaces. For Lebesgue spaces the approximation spaces are identified with weighted Besov spaces.
