Abstract: faecal samples were tested for bovine coronavirus by means of agglutination of hamster erythrocytes and hemagglutination inhibition. isolation of bovine coronavirus was carried out in monolayers of primary culture of calf kidney, using faecal samples from dairy cows with clinical signs similar to winter dysentery. when isolated, they were submitted to seroneutralization with anti-bovine coronavirus serum. these isolates were confirmed to be positive, once being neutralized.

Abstract: in order to obtain a biologically cloned bovine coronavirus isolate, the isolate vb73/04 was adapted to multiplication in mdbk cell line. this isolate induced the formation of plaques, which were homogeneous after biological cloning. the viral population obtained was tested for bovine coronavirus by rt-pcr assay and seroneutralization.

Abstract: transmissible gastroenteritis (tge) is an infectious, acute and highly contagious disease in swine. it is caused by a virus belonging to the coronaviridae family, coronavirus genus. some outbreaks starting with diarrheic symptoms with the clinical characteristics of tge disease have been present in our country since 2003. but for having the confirmation of the diagnostic, it was necessary to isolate the virus in cell cultures from sick animals, followed by an identification in those cell cultures with cytopatic effect. that is why, it was necessary to develop a methodology for the virus isolation, since for this virus, it has been previously reported that isolation in cells is very difficult to obtain. in this research, a methodology was developed for the virus isolation. the isolates obtained during the technique evaluation were identified as positive by indirect immunoperoxidase in cells with an anti tge specific commercial monoclonal antibody
REPRODUCCIóN EXPERIMENTAL DE LA GASTROENTERITIS TRANSMISIBLE DEL CERDO

Abstract: the experimental reproduction of transmissible gastroenteritis was achieved in newborn piglets, after inoculation by oral route of a strain of this virus isolated in cuba. in both cases, diarrheas appeared at 24 hours post-inoculation. in all inoculated piglest, anatomo and histopathological lesions which corresponded to the disease were observed in necropsy. transmissible gastroenteritis virus was excreted after the establishment of diarrhea and not any other pathogenic microorganism involved was found. this sustained the enteropathogenicity of the isolate.

Abstract: avian leukosis viruses (alv) provoke a variety of trasmissible bening and malign tumoral diseases affecting birds. chickens are affected by six subgroups of alv designs a, b, c, d, e and j of more recent world dissemination. these viruses are potential contaminants of live vaccines used in poultry. in order to research the presence of dna from alvs as contaminants of viral commercial vaccines to be used in poultry, different marek′s disease vaccines were screened by a reported polymerase chain reaction (pcr) assay designed to detect all subgroups of alvs. dna samples extracted from seven vaccines were submitted to pcr using primers for a conserved region of env gene of hprs-103. alv sequences were detected in seven samples (100%). the methodology employed proved to be useful for the detection of alvs as contaminants of imported marek′s disease vaccines. these data suggest a high occurrence of alvs in commercial vaccines intended for poultry disease prevention.

MULTIPLICATION OF A TRANSMISSIBLE GASTROENTERITIS VIRUS CUBAN ISOLATE IN DIFFERENT CELL LINES

Abstract: in this study we report a wide range of cells from different species, in which a cuban tge isolate multiplies. both primary cultures and continuous cell lines from different species were used. we found out that 11 from the 13 kinds of cultures assessed were sensitive to the cuban isolate, which not only showed an expected affinity to cells from porcine origin, but also it was able to replicate and produce a cytopathic effect in cells from bovine, hamster, monkey and quail origin.

Abstract: the possible irritant effect of a formulation that will be used as a deodorant and that contains methenamine, a urinary antiseptic, as an active principle, is evaluated. this formulation was applied by ophthalmic route to 6 new zealand breed rabbits for 7 days. the assessments are based on the macroscopic observations of the possible adverse effects appearing in the skin structures.

Abstract: Se realizó la evaluación del posible efecto irritante de un formulado que se empleará como desodorante y que contiene como principio activo la hexamina, la cual es empleada como antiséptico urinario. Este formulado se aplicó por vía oftálmica en 6 conejos de la raza Nueva Zelandia durante 7 d. Las valoraciones se basan en las observaciones macroscópicas de los posibles efectos adversos que se presentan en las estructuras de la piel. Coronavirus bovino: Infecciones neumoentéricas (Bovine coronavirus:Neumoenteric infections)

Abstract: Coronavirus bovino (BCoV) es reconocido como un importante agente patógeno del ganado bovino, el cual está asociado a tres síndromes clínicos diferentes, Síndrome diarreico neonatal del ternero, caracterizado en terneros recién nacidos por diarreas líquidas profusas, en ocasiones hemorrágicas, anorexia, deshidratación y frecuentemente la muerte; Disentería de Invierno, la cual ocurre primariamente en bovinos adultos y cursa con severas diarreas, algunas veces con restos de sangre y mucus, decrecimiento de laproducción láctea, depresión, anorexia y descargas nasolagrimales; y finalmente como causa de infecciones respiratorias en vacas, incluida la Fiebre de Embarque. En todos los casos el diagnóstico requiere deensayos de laboratorio para la confirmación de BCoV, debido que resulta imposible su reconocimiento basado en elementos clínicos y anatomopatológicos por su similitud con otras enfermedades. Hasta elmomento todos los aislados de BCoV, tanto de cuadros entéricos como respiratorios pertenecen a un solo serotipo, pero con dos o tres subtipos identificados por seroneutralización empleando anticuerposmonoclonales. En adición, diferencias genéticas (por mutaciones puntuales, no delecciones) han sido detectadas en el gen S, diferenciando entre aislados entéricos y respiratorios. No obstante, numerosos experimentos han demostrado la protección cruzada experimentada por terneros recién nacidos, privados de calostro ygnotobióticos, inoculados con aislados de BCoV obtenidos a partir de cuadros entéricos y respiratorios de terneros y bovinos adultos, los cuales resultaron protegidos al desafío subsiguiente con cepas de BCoV asociadas a diarrea.
