EL ESTUDIO DE CASOS COMO METODOLOGíA DE INVESTIGACIóN Y SU IMPORTANCIA EN LA DIRECCIóN Y ADMINISTRACIóN DE EMPRESAS
EDGAR CASTRO MONGE
Revista Nacional de Administración , 2010,
Abstract: Studies by different authors have shown the importanceof research based on case studies forBusiness Administration and Management. Thisis because this tool is commonly used as part ofqualitative research methodologies. To providethe basis to justify the importance and use of thisresearch methodology is intended, as well as acomparison of case studies (qualitative research)and quantitative research. Some prejudices and questioning made by some authors regarding casestudies are refuted. Furthermore, the theoretical bases toefficiently conduct a case study are outlined.

Revista de Metalurgia , 2000,
Abstract: The present work describes the morphology and formation of the types of craters obtained with the impact of projectiles 5,56 SS109 over seven steel plates AISI-SAE 1045 that received different cycles of heat treatment. A comparison between the type of deformation and fracture structures and the ones generated by the impact of this projectile over one steel armor plate was made. Each one of the craters was characterized by visual and metallography observation. The influence of the plate microstructure on the efficiency for stopping the projectile and the mechanism of craters formation was evaluated.
Urinary and sexual manifestations of patients infected by HTLV-I
Oliveira, Paulo;Castro, Néviton Matos de;Carvalho, Edgar M.;
Clinics , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1807-59322007000200015
Abstract: htlv-i is considered to be a virus of low morbidity, since the principal diseases associated with this viral infection, htlv-i-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (ham/tsp) and adult t-cell leukemia/lymphoma (atll), are observed in less than 5% of infected individuals. urinary symptoms are frequent in patients with myelopathy and consist principally of nocturia, frequency, urgency, and urinary incontinence; however, the importance of these dysfunctions and their correlation with myelopathy is still to be fully clarified. this review gives particular emphasis to the high frequency of urinary and sexual complaints not only in patients with myelopathy but also in individuals considered to be htlv-i carriers. detrusor overactivity and bladder-sphincter dyssynergia are the most common urodynamic findings. the fact that urinary complaints and urodynamic parameters reported in individuals considered to be carriers are similar to those detected in patients with myelopathy supports the hypothesis that urinary disorders may represent an oligosymptomatic form of ham/tsp. erectile dysfunction is frequently observed in htlv-i-infected patients with or without myelopathy. urinary tract infections are also highly prevalent in these patients. despite the lack of an effective treatment for myelopathy, the use of anticholinergic drugs and phosphodiesterase type 5 (pde5) inhibitors may improve urinary complaints and erectile dysfunction in these patients.
EQUILIBRIO GENERAL NO COMPETITIVO CON FORMACIóN ENDóGENA DE PRECIOS
Villa,Edgar; Arévalo,Julián; Castro,Angélica;
Cuadernos de Economía , 2001,
Abstract: this article presents an equilibrium concept that, contrary to the traditional walrasian one, allows for the unbalance between supply and demand in different markets, making easier the analysis of those situations in which they differ persistently, as in the case of the labor market. furthermore, the process of price setting becomes endogenous and it is shown that an equilibrium with endogenous price setting is a particular case of an equilibrium of fixed prices. toward the end some examples are presented which help us to sustain these arguments.

Vitae , 2008,
Abstract: this study find the air temperatures for dehydrating cape gooseberry, (physalis peruviana l), with osmotic dehydration as a pretreatment, using a solution of sucrose of 70 o brix to 40 oc by 16 hours. the highest level of β-carotene degradation, 98%, due to the effects of oxygen, temperature and provitamin lixiviation, takes place with the pretreated fruits, which dry at 60oc. lixiviation contributes to 80% of this. the fruits without pretreatment and dry at a temperature of 40oc suffer a lower level of β-carotene degradation, 28%. the times for the untreated fruit, to reach a moisture level close to 2.5%, decrease as the air temperature increase (40, 50 y 60oc, 12, 9 and 7 hours respectively). in the case of the pretreated fruit, the drying times are 4, 5, and 6 hours for 60, 50 y 40oc respectively. degradation kinetic is first order. the economic study find that the cost for dehydrating at 60°c for the untreated fruit was the most suitable with an approximately cost of $374.42/kg of fruit.

Vitae , 2008,
Non competitive general equilibrium with endogenous price setting Equilibrio General no competitivo con formación endógena de precios

Iatreia , 2007,
Abstract: Theoretically, high levels of strength correlate with improvement in manifestations of immediate muscular power, which is a decisive variable of performance in modern soccer. Purpose: to determine in soccer players if strength training at a high percentage (85%) of 1-RM, looking for increase in maximum strength, is more effective in improving immediate muscular power than a similar training but at 75% of 1-RM. Methodology: 60 soccer players belonging to the inferior divisions of DIM were randomly assigned to either one of two groups of 30 players each, and performed the following strength training protocols: the experimental group carried out an individual bilateral force training for knee extensors and flexors that consisted of 3 series of 5 repetitions each, at 85% of 1-RM, with 5 minutes of rest between series, twice a week during 12 weeks. The control group trained the same muscular groups, 3 series of 8 repetitionseach, at 75% of 1-RM, also with 5 minutes of rest between series, twice a week during 12 weeks. At the onset, and at 6 and 12 weeks measurements were made of maximum strength (1-RM) of knee extensors and flexors and of immediate muscular power: speed in 20 m, Squat Jump and Countermovement Jump. Results: although the 60 players completed the training, data were analyzed for only 29 in the experimental group and 27 in the control one; of the remaining 4 participants, 2 left the team and 2 suffered injuries unrelated with the training. No significant differences were found between the two groups, in any of the variables, in any of the 3 measurements. Most of the variables -strength of the right knee extensors, strength of the left knee extensors, strength of the right knee flexors, strength of the left knee flexors, Squat Jump, Countermovement Jump – had statistically significant increases (p < 0.05) in each group both at 6 weeks and between weeks 6 and 12, the only exception being the speed in 20 m that presented significant increase only at six weeks. For both groups, the r Pearson′s correlation between maximum strength of right knee extensors, SJ and CMJ ranged from moderate to high and were statistically significant (p < 0.05) at the beginning of the study as well as at 6 and 12 weeks of the maximum strength training; correlation with the speed in 20 m was found only at the beginning of the work. Conclusions: maximum strength training at intensities of 75 and 85% of 1-M produces significant improvement in immediate muscular power.
