Abstract: The indiscriminate use of pesticides has become a serious environmental concern. Insecticide imidacloprid (IMI) is the second most widely used pesticides worldwide. In 2010, 1.934 tons of IMI were sold in Brazil, mostly to be used in sugarcane crops. Several studies have detected its presence in the aquatic environment constituting a risk to non-target organisms. The aquatic animals are organisms used for environmental biomonitoring worldwide. They are considered excellent genetic models to detect environmental mutagens. Among animal species, the fish Oreochromis niloticus, commonly known as Nile tilapia, has been used to evaluate DNA damage. The present study therefore evaluated the effect of IMI on the genetic material of Oreochromis niloticus (Pisces) erythrocytes exposed to different concentration (250; 125 and 62.5 μg/L) of IMI used in growing sugarcane. The effect of the IMI was measured using the comet assay and the micronucleus (MN) test, assays that detected genotoxic damage. The results in the comet assay demonstrated that the concentrations tested induced primary damage to DNA. They also proved the occurrence of MN and nuclear abnormalities at the higher concentration used in the micronuclei and other nuclear abnormalities test. The insecticide IMI induced primary DNA damage at all concentrations and damage at the chromosomal level at the highest concentration tested. The results of this study show the potential risk of IMI in a non-target organism.
Envolvimento pulmonar na polimiosite

Revista Portuguesa de Pneumologia , 2010,
Abstract: introduction: polymyositis and dermatomyositis are classified as idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. interstitial lung disease is rare and is described in the literature in about 10% of cases. the authors describes a case of 75 year old woman presenting with one month evolution of fever, weight loss, arthralgia, myalgia and symmetric and proximal muscle weakness of upper and lower limbs. nonspecific interstitial changes was found in chest x -ray. after exhaustive study, the diagnosis of pulmonary envolvement in the form of organizing pneumonia by polymyositis, was established. glucocorticoids and mycophenolate were prescribed with good clinical, analytical and radiological outcome. conclusion: in this case, it was the changes in the chest x -ray in a patient without respiratory symptomatology, that conducted to exhaustive study to polymyositis diagnosis, enhancing once again the importance of x -ray in the screaning of pathologies of other systems.

Abstract: Twenty-four horses were distributed into four different groups, instrumented control (GI), duodenum obstruction (GII), ileum obstruction (GIII) and large colon obstruction (GIV). Serum and peritoneal fluid analysis of aspartate aminotransferase, creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, inorganic phosphorus and lactate were measured. Samples were collected one hour before the surgical procedure (T0); 3 hours after the obstruction (T3ob), 1, 3, 12, 24, 120 and 168 hours after the beginning of reperfusion/deobstruction. Duodenal (GII) and ileum (GIII) obstructions changed serum and peritoneal fluid biochemical analysis. However, only lactate, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase and inorganic phosphorus concentrations were abnormal in peritoneal fluid three hours after the obstruction. The biochemical analysis of peritoneal fluid allowed a faster diagnostic of intestinal alterations than the serum analysis; hence it should be prioritized when pre-operatory colic assessment is carried out.
Ajustamento Simultaneo de Equa??es de Biomassa de Pinheiro Manso no Sul de Portugal

Abstract: we present a system of alometric biomass equations for aboveground compartments for pinus pinea l. that allows biomass estimation with information from conventional forest inventories. we harvested 40 trees located in south of portugal and separated and weighed all the aboveground components: needles, stem bark, branches and stem. the equations were simultaneously fitted using seemingly unrelated regression. this method allows the compatibility of the partial allometric equations with the equation for total biomass aboveground that corresponds to the sum of those 4 equations. the models were better for stem (r2adj.=0.85) and bark (r2adj.=0.83) and worst for branches (r2adj.=0.79) and needles (r2adj.=0.71). crown biomass was always high compared with aboveground biomass, independently on stand characteristics. however it may be exacerbated by artificial pruning that is carried out to increase crown expansion for pine nut production. the different stand management circumstances from where trees harvested were selected may explain the worst fitting for crown components.

Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Médica , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-55022006000300006
Abstract: the faculty of medicine of the federal university of goiás (famed-ufg) established in 2003 a new curriculum for medical graduation, supported by the program for the encouragement of changes in the curriculum of medical schools (promed). the aim of this study was to collect data regarding the opinion of the teachers about the new curriculum. as an instrument for collecting information we elaborated a questionnaire with objective and subjective questions, which was delivered to the professors of the first three years of the course. the greater part of teachers (77%) revealed to be in favor of the reformulation, mentioning as improvements more integration among disciplines, extension of the internship period and being adapted to the reality of the health system. other points mentioned were the increased workload, the resistance to changes of some of the teachers and the need to improve the continued professional capacity building program offered by our school. knowing how the teachers think about the new curriculum can in many ways be useful for its improvement and shows that studies of this kind are necessary to support the changes in the curriculums.
Benefits from Long-Term Treatment in Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Stefano Evangelista
Gastroenterology Research and Practice , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/936960
Abstract: It is known that irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disease of cyclic nature characterized by recurrent symptoms. IBS patients should receive, as initial therapeutic approach a short course of treatment which, if effective, has the additional value of confirming the diagnosis. Long-term treatment should be reserved to diagnosed IBS patients with recurrent symptoms. Clinical trials with stabilized therapies and new active treatments showed an improvement of the symptoms over placebo that is often time-dependent but with high relapse rates (around 40%–50% when stopping treatment). Relapse is not always immediate after stopping treatment and the recent data from OBIS trial with otilonium bromide or with psychotherapy, showed that due to different chemico-physical characteristics of the drugs or the psychosomatic impact to the disease not all treatment gave the same relapsing rate if compared to placebo. Results of IBS clinical trials with different therapies tailored to the patient needs indicate that a cyclic treatment therapy is advisable to counteract the nature of the disease.
Formar o mestre na universidade: a experiência paulista nos anos de 1930
Evangelista, Olinda;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97022001000200004
Abstract: this article presents results of a research on teacher university education in brazil in the 1930s. the investigation was carried out gathering information sources from that period, including documents produced by the institution under study, as well as from periodicals, legislation, newspapers, and educational literature, amongst others. from the documental corpus so gathered it was observed that in 1933, in the state of s?o paulo, the first higher education school for the formation of teachers created was the instituto de educa??o (institute of education), stemming from the educational reform of fernando de azevedo. in 1934 it was incorporated to the university of s?o paulo and, together with the school of philosophy, sciences and literature, was responsible for the higher education of teachers. at the institute of education of the university of s?o paulo was established the first generation of university teachers devoted to the education of teachers for the primary and secondary school, a project that had its roots in the intellectual debate that took place especially in the 1920s. although the institute constituted one of the answers to the demand for teacher professionalization and had been a model for other initiatives, it was closed down in 1938. political forces linked to the interventionist government of ademar de barros and to the catholic church put an end in 1938 to the first brazilian experience of higher education for teachers.

"Imperium in imperio". Il rapporto uomo-natura in Spinoza
Evangelista, Roberto
Laboratorio dell'ISPF , 2010,
Abstract: The relationship between man and nature denotes many problems in Spinoza’s context, where necessity plays an essential role. This essay tries to define the status of the possibility and its relationship to the natural necessity. The man-nature relationship reveals itself as conflictual space, where the human being faces the possibility of death and looks for the possibility of survival. The political action and the constitution of community offer an answer to the uncertainty of human position. Community is not an artificial monster; it is rather the adequate place where the human right and the human power express themselves. Nature and culture are not dissociated, since the society affirms the natural potentia of the human being and that of the multitude.
