Polimorfismo do gene do receptor de progesterona (PROGINS) em mulheres com cancer de mama: estudo caso-controle
Linhares, José Juvenal;Silva, Ismael Dale Cotrim Guerreiro da;Souza, Naiara Correa Nogueira de;Noronha, Emmanuelle Coelho;Ferraro, Odair;Baracat, Fausto Farah;
Revista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-72032005000800007
Abstract: purpose: to analyze the correlation between progins polymorphism and breast cancer. methods: a case-control study was carried out from april to october 2004. the genotypes of 50 women with breast cancer and 49 healthy women were analyzed. the 306-base pair alu insertion polymorphism in the g intron of progesterone receptor gene was detected by polymerase chain reaction and analyzed on 2% agarose gel stained with ethidium bromide. the control and experimental groups were compared regarding genotypes using the statistical epi-info 6.0 program and for frequencies the exact fisher test or c2 test were used. p value smaller p than 5% was considered to be significant. results: in relation to progins we found in the studied population a prevalence of 62 (62.6%) wild homozygous, 35 (35.3%) heterozygous individuals and two (2.1%) cases with the presence of the mutation. regarding progins polymorphism, significance was not evidenced when cases and controls were compared, as related to homozygosis (62 vs 65.3%), heterozygosis (36 vs 34,6%) or the mutation (2.0 vs 2.1%), with p=0.920 (or=1.01), 0.891 (or=1.06), and 0.988 (or=1.10), respectively. conclusions: the results show that single-gene progins polymorphism does not confer a substantial risk of breast cancer to its carriers.
Alguns momentos do debate sobre as teorias do 'n?o-si' e das 'duas verdades' na história da filosofia buddhista
Ferraro, Giuseppe;
Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2011000100001
Abstract: the paper reconstructs some prominent stages of the development of the "non-self" and the "two truths" doctrines in buddhist philosophy, from original formulations of mainstream buddhism, to the conclusions reached by nāgārjuna, the founder of mahāyāna school of madhyamaka. during this concise reconstructions, some passages of nāgārjuna's mūlamadhyamikakārikās, which are crucial to clarify his (controversial) epistemological conception, will prove themselves similar, regarding the structuring and the development of the discourse, to the first part of milinda pa?ha, a para-canonical dialogue which takes an apofatic approach to deal with the topic of the 'ultimate truth'. this formal parallelism between the passages of the two texts suggests the possibility of a 'substantial' correspondence between the nagarjunian conception and that of milinda pa?ha with regard to the 'ultimately true'.

Differenza epistemologica e identità ontologica tra Sa?sāra e Nirvā?a nel pensiero buddhista
Ferraro, Giuseppe;
Trans/Form/A??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31732012000100012
Abstract: the difference between the concepts of sa?sāra e nirvā?aset forth by the historical buddha (vi-v b.c.) in his first sermon seem to be disputed by the equalization of the two terms effected by nāgārjuna (ii a.d) in a topical passage of his mk. this article, firstly, supports the thesis that the contradiction is just a seeming one and that the relation of difference or identity between the two dimensions depends on the philosophical register, respectively epistemological and ontological, being used - in both cases for soteriological purposes - by the buddha and nāgārjuna. secondly, we wish to prove that, in any case, nāgārjuna's ontology, far from being a philosophical novelty or an evolution of the thought of the founder of buddhism, is, on the contrary, one of the possible applications of the "non-self" doctrine (anātma-vāda) - probably the most important and original contribution of buddhist thought to the history of world philosophy - expounded by the buddha in his second sermon.

Abstract The participation of Christian men and women in the political fight to free the poor and excluded is the great news in the Church(es) in Latin America and the Caribbean. After Medellín (1968), with a creative reception from Vatican Council II, the experience and understanding of Christian faith has acquired a new dynamics. Basic ecclesial communities (BECs) and the Theology of Liberation favor a new way of being socially committed to the construction of a different society, inspired by justice and solidarity. It is clear that solid bonds connect evangelization and liberation. The work of evangelization cannot neglect serious problems that affect people's life and nature: unemployment, social exclusion, violence, devastation of the environment. Christian men and women are invited to offer their contribution to the transformation of society based on faith and pastoral practice. It will contribute to the construction of a nation project in harmony with the values of popular fights, which requires the use of instruments capable of fostering the citizens' participation in search of a just and fraternal society that respects people's life and nature.
