Abstract: macrolides represent the 10-15% of the world-wide market of oral antibiotics. they are one of the safer groups of antibiotics, being the severe adverse reactions very rare. they can produce gastrointestinal reactions, hepatotoxicity and ototoxicity. the psychiatric reactions are found sporadically among the adverse effects. cases reported to the fda showed that clarithromycin and ciprofloxacin are the most frequent antibiotics associated with the development of mania. the syndrome has been termed antibiomania. we present three clinical cases seen in a primary care office in the last year with similar pictures of hyperactivity and aggressiveness coinciding with the administration of antibiotics of the family of the macrolides.

Abstract: in the light of the context of his initial production, josé ricardo morales′s work, burlilla de don berrendo, do?a caracolines y su amante y el embustero en su enredo, is carefully analyzed. this serves as a marker for the continuity and variation of dramatic writing in spain, and later on in chile. hispanic traditional roots recovered and the metadramatic gesture combine with the experience of life in exile, his linguistic alienation from the language and reality.
Separating fast and slow modes in coupled chaotic systems
M. Pe a,E. Kalnay
Nonlinear Processes in Geophysics (NPG) , 2004,
Abstract: We test a simple technique based on breeding to separate fast and slow unstable modes in coupled systems with different time scales of evolution and variable amplitudes. The technique takes advantage of the earlier saturation of error growth rate of the fastest mode and of the lower value of the saturation amplitude of perturbation of either the fast or the slow modes. These properties of the coupled system allow a physically-based selection of the rescaling time interval and the amplitude of initial perturbations in the "breeding" of unstable modes (Toth and Kalnay, 1993, 1996, 1997; Aurell et al., 1997; Boffetta et al., 1998) to isolate the desired mode. We perform tests in coupled models composed of fast and slow versions of the Lorenz (1963) model with different strengths of coupling. As examples we present first a coupled system which we denote "weather with convection", with a slow, large amplitude model coupled with a fast, small amplitude model, second an "ENSO" system with a "tropical atmosphere" strongly coupled with a "tropical ocean", and finally a triply coupled system denoted "tropical-extratropical" in which a fast model (representing the "extratropical atmosphere") is loosely coupled to the "ENSO" system. We find that it is always possible to isolate the fast modes by taking the limit of small amplitudes and short rescaling intervals, in which case, as expected, the results are the same as the local Lyapunov growth obtained with the linear tangent model. In contrast, slow modes cannot be isolated with either Lyapunov or Singular vectors, since the linear tangent and adjoint models are dominated by the fast modes. Breeding is successful in isolating slow modes if rescaling intervals and amplitudes are chosen from physically appropriate scales.

In the light of the context of his initial production, José Ricardo Morales′s work, Burlilla de don Berrendo, do a Caracolines y su amante y El embustero en su enredo, is carefully analyzed. This serves as a marker for the continuity and variation of dramatic writing in Spain, and later on in Chile. Hispanic traditional roots recovered and the metadramatic gesture combine with the experience of life in exile, his linguistic alienation from the language and reality.

Spatial-Temporal Dynamics of Runoff Generation Areas in a Small Agricultural Watershed in Southern Ontario  [PDF]

Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2015.71002
Abstract: The identification of runoff generating areas (RGAs) within a watershed is a difficult task because of their temporal and spatial behavior. A watershed was selected to investigate the RGAs to determine the factors affecting spatio-temporally in southern Ontario. The watershed was divided into 8 fields having a Wireless System Network (WSN) and a V-notch weir for flow and soil moisture measurements. The results show that surface runoff is generated by the infiltration excess mechanism in summer and fall, and the saturation excess mechanism in spring. The statistical analysis suggested that the amount of rainfall and rainfall intensity for summer (R2 = 0.63, 0.82) and fall (R2 = 0.74, 0.80), respectively, affected the RGAs. The analysis showed that 15% area generated 85% of surface runoff in summer, 100% of runoff in fall, and 40% of runoff in spring. The methodology developed has potential for identifying RGAs for protecting Ontario’s water resources.
MRI-Brachytheraphy of Cervical Carcinoma—A Pictorial Review for the Radiologist  [PDF]

Open Journal of Radiology (OJRad) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojrad.2012.23015
Abstract: Exact staging of cervical malignant neoplasms is essential in the selection of the most favorable therapy. MR imaging plays a comprehensive role in primary tumor staging. It monitors response to treatment, detects recurrence and helps in the planning of radiotherapy. Patients with advanced disease usually receive external-beam radiation therapy followed by intracavitary brachytherapy with concurrent chemotherapy. Brachytherapy based on cross-sectional imaging, especially MR imaging, improves local control and overall survival. MRI-based brachytherapy allows accurate positioning of the probe and the depiction of the tumor volume contour, which also permits individualized treatment planning. In order to obtain successful radiation treatment, the radiologist must provide the radiation oncologist with adequate knowledge regarding this technique and its possible complications.

Actas Urológicas Espa?olas , 2005, DOI: 10.4321/S0210-48062005000200003
Abstract: many medical practices are being carried out unawares of their efficiency, or of their actual impact on the health of the patients, therefore it is necessary to consider the support of professional recommendations with scientific evidence. the primary objective: to perform a systematic review (sr) of the therapeutic management of primary vur in pediatric urology. material and methods: a systematic review has been performed, including scientific evidence-based medicine criteria, of the articles published in all of the available databases. inclusion criteria concerning basic quality of the articles were considered essential, as well as exclusion criteria to be able to reject the articles. results and discussion: subsequently, and following the critic reading of greater than 320 articles, statistical study of the grouped data was performed according to the type of treatment and to the benefits contributed by each treatment, and also to their undesirable effects. finally we have made a comparison between our results and recent cochrane systematic review. the following conclusions were drawn from the results obtained and from the analysis of the texts. both medical and surgical treatment present with similar effectiveness concerning resolution of grades i, ii and iii of vur, and the former one is the recommended initial treatment following diagnosis. endoscopic treatment is exactly as effective as open surgery for grades i, ii and iii with fewer undesirable effects secondary. there are no differences concerning the efficacy of the different injected substances. not enough evidences exist for degrees iv and v that may recommend or advise against any of the treatments. in any degree of vur, open surgical treatment is superior as far as medical treatment is concerned only regarding the number of acute pyelonephritis episodes during followup. this conclusion cannot be applied on endoscopic treatment.
