Scintillating double beta decay bolometers
S. Pirro,J. W. Beeman,S. Capelli,M. Pavan,E. Previtali,P. Gorla
Physics , 2005, DOI: 10.1134/S1063778806120155
Abstract: We present the results obtained in the development of scintillating Double Beta Decay bolometers. Several Mo and Cd based crystals were tested with the bolometric technique. The scintillation light was measured through a second independent bolometer. A 140 g CdWO_4 crystal was run in a 417 h live time measurement. Thanks to the scintillation light, the alpha background is easily discriminated resulting in zero counts above the 2615 keV gamma line of Thallium 208. These results, combined with an extremely easy light detector operation, represent the first tangible proof demonstrating the feasibility of this kind of technique.
A novel technique of particle identification with bolometric detectors

Abstract: We report in this paper the proofs that the pulse shape analysis can be used in some bolometers to identify the nature of the interacting particle. Indeed, while detailed analyses of the signal time development in purely thermal detectors have not produced so far interesting results, similar analyses on bolometers built with scintillating crystals seem to show that it is possible to distinguish between an electron or gamma-ray and an alpha particle interaction. This information can be used to eliminate background events from the recorded data in many rare process studies, especially Neutrinoless Double Beta decay search. Results of pulse shape analysis of signals from a number of bolometers with absorbers of different composition (CaMoO4, ZnMoO4, MgMoO4 and ZnSe) are presented and the pulse shape discrimination capability of such detectors is discussed.
National models of public (e)-procurement in Europe
Francesco Bof,Pietro Previtali
Journal of E-Government Studies and Best Practices , 2010,
Abstract: Public Procurement of goods and services is a strategic activity for Governments for at least three reasons: a) it has a relevant economic impact b) it is relevant for Governments’ public services and c) it affects both Nations’ competitiveness and citizens’ welfare. Moreover, observing the EU context other two reasons contribute to its relevancy: d) the juridical panorama connected to it has strongly evolved in the last ten years e) at a central national level, there exist many institutional models and e-procurement solutions none of which has yet emerged as the optimal one. European agreements on public tendering and procurement together with the existing central public procurement models and related ICT applications aim to create a common framework based on social goals and key principles (e.g. Maastricht Treaty). First the paper will analyse and review the quite unexplored literature concerning the public procurement evolution in the last decade, expounding the benefits of innovative solutions through procurement systems, mostly connected with ICT implementation, in order to understand if and why the role of central public (e) procurement should be developed. Secondly, in order to understand how Public Procurement should be developed, the paper will investigate EU national models adopting a Central Procurement Department aiming to purchase goods and services for the public bodies. Finally, the paper will identify the strategic and organizational specificities of the Italian model, discussing the role of e-procurement platforms inside the whole system, both under an organizational and economic point of view.

Las chicas en la casa, los chicos en la calle. Construcción genérica, violencia y prácticas de sociabilidad en Villa el Nailon, Córdoba

Abstract: In the present work I propose the analyse of the ways in that youngs of Villa El Nailon of the city of Córdoba become by gender in men and women through practices and senses legitimated and built socially in said villa. From analysing the observations and interviews realized with boys and girls of between 15 and 30 years roughly, like this as with their familiar and neighbouring is that I build an ethnography of the senses and practices through which they delimit spaces and ways of inhabit them, considered favourable or desfavorables for the subjetivity that forge themselves. This way, I analyze the continuity that one presents between the manners with which from the earliest infancy they structure the uses of the different spaces of the villa with the divisions and inequalities in the relations of conyugality. The analysis of labor practices and of friendship are constituted also in central areas to understand how the use of the violence in the exchanges between young people and groups regulate the relations and are constituted in symbolic spaces to construct and to demonstrate masculinities or femininity that face and are not bent easily.

CdWO4 scintillating bolometer for Double Beta Decay: Light and Heat anticorrelation, light yield and quenching factors
C. Arnaboldi,J. W. Beeman,O. Cremonesi,L. Gironi,M. Pavan,G. Pessina,S. Pirro,E. Previtali
Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1016/j.astropartphys.2010.06.009
Abstract: We report the performances of a 0.51 kg CdWO4 scintillating bolometer to be used for future Double Beta Decay Experiments. The simultaneous read-out of the heat and the scintillation light allows to discriminate between different interacting particles aiming at the disentanglement and the reduction of background contribution, key issue for next generation experiments. We will describe the observed anticorrelation between the heat and the light signal and we will show how this feature can be used in order to increase the energy resolution of the bolometer over the entire energy spectrum, improving up to a factor 2.6 on the 2615 keV line of 208Tl. The detector was tested in a 433 h background measurement that permitted to estimate extremely low internal trace contaminations of 232Th and 238U. The light yield of gamma/beta, alpha and neutrons is presented. Furthermore we developed a method in order to correctly evaluate the absolute thermal quenching factor of alpha particles in scintillating bolometers.

Abstract: This article is a review about the book of Ricardo Antunes, The Meanings of Work: Essay on the Affirmation and Negation of Work that has been released in United States (Haymarker books, 2013), United Kingdom (Brill Books, 2013) and India (Akkar Books, 2013). The author, Ricardo Antunes, is an internationally renowned scholar in the field of sociology of work with several publications in Argentina, France, India, Italy, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom and United States. The author, Ricardo Antunes, is an internationally renowned scholar in the field of sociology of work with several publications in Argentina, France, India, Italy, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom and United States. In the book, originally published in 1999 by Boitempo Editorial, Sao Paulo?Brazil, after his research conducted in 1999 at the University of Sussex, under the supervision of István Mészáros, Antunes starts with rigorous analysis of the increasingly heterogeneous and multifaceted configuration of the working class as well as the overlaps between productive and unproductive, material and immaterial labour, to restore and complicate the thesis of the centrality of labour and its importance in human sociability.

Abstract: We have measured a large number of proton-induced radionuclide production cross sections from tellurium targets of natural isotopic composition at incident energies of 0.80, 1.4, and 23 GeV. The results of these measurements are compared to semi-empirical calculations.

Objective: To study incidence and management of long term central venous catheter (CVC) placement related pneumothorax (PNX) in children. Aim: To construct a baseline value before the introduction of systematic use of ultrasound guidance, which requires specific training and equipment. Background: Anesthesia Service and Pediatric Oncology of the Italian National Cancer Center; patients were children (age ≤ 18 years) with solid tumors, needing long-term central venous catheters (Groshong or Port-a-Cath). Materials/Methods: Catheter placement was performed, mostly under general anesthesia, utilizing a micropuncture 5-7 Fr needle and fluoroscopy. In the study period ultrasound was used only in case of previously failed attempts. Relevant data were collected retrospectively. Results: From August 2008 to December 2011, 452 catheters were implanted to our patients. The prevalent approach was from subclavian vein (left 85.7%, right 9.7%); in few cases internal jugular vein
