Martínez E., J. Rafael;
Educación matemática , 2010,
Abstract: as a painter, leonardo learnt to see the world in perspective and by this he meant not only the usage of geometry and proportion theory but also to analyze the nature of light and the process of vision. as a result he developed an encompassing approach by which analogy and mathematics provided the bridges to connect the working principles of machines, living organisms and the causal links of natural phenomena. in order to accomplish this, he made of geometry and his theory of vision his main tools.
Martínez R,Roger E;
Boletín Técnico , 2006,
Abstract: seismic micro-zoning is an important tool to reduce seismic risk, if adequately incorporated in urban planning and control. in venezuela, urban management is a responsibility shared between national and local authorities, who establish regulations which are generally followed by the formal sector. in the case of the informal sector, which represents an important portion of venezuelan urban areas, homes have been constructed without rules that establish where and how to build. however in this case, national and local urban planning and housing authorities, with the participation of ngos, have introduced urban improvement plans, in order to incorporate these settlements to the formal city. seismic vulnerability data and other studies on natural risks have minor consideration and incidence in urban planning and management in venezuela, due to: the lack of preparation of most professionals in the planning field in this type of criteria, limited funding for seismic studies of vulnerable areas, and the lack of specific regulations and procedures to effectively incorporate results.? in addition, it is necessary to provide the public with proper information than will let them respond effectively. this article briefly describes how urban management is practiced in venezuela and its main trends, in order to appropriately incorporate seismic microzoning in urban planning and control.
Learning to repair plans and schedules using a relational (deictic) representation
Palombarini, J.;Martínez, E.;
Brazilian Journal of Chemical Engineering , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-66322010000300006
Abstract: unplanned and abnormal events may have a significant impact on the feasibility of plans and schedules which requires to repair them 'on-the-fly' to guarantee due date compliance of orders-in-progress and negotiating delivery conditions for new orders. in this work, a repair-based rescheduling approach based on the integration of intensive simulations with logical and relational reinforcement learning is proposed. based on a relational (deictic) representation of schedule states, a number of repair operators have been designed to guide the search towards a goal state. the knowledge generated via simulation is encoded in a relational regression tree for the q-value function defining the utility of applying a given repair operator at a given schedule state. a prototype implementation in prolog language is discussed using a representative example of three batch extruders processing orders for four different products. the learning curve for the problem of inserting a new order vividly illustrates the advantages of logical and relational learning in rescheduling.
Martínez Vizcarrondo,Doris E;
Opción , 2006,
Abstract: abstract this article analyzes the exclusion and inclusion of actions and social actors in the representation of the events of the 11th of september in new york in the latin american digital press. critical discourse analysis is used following the principles established by van dijk (1990, 1997, 1998). the sample is made up of 509 selected articles that appeared on the cover pages of seventeen latin american digital newspapers, from the 12th to the 16th of september. among the results we emphasize: a) the contents of the newspapers that were examined reproduced the discourses of american news agencies; b) the topics reflected a discourse without reference to the past, without reflection on the causes of the events and the people responsible, a tactic used to minimize the contradictions and the protagonists of the events; c) the topics selected are products of opinions, ideologies and values that come from the ideologies of the american military, political activists and journalistic elites; d) the construction of identities is established by a dichotomy: ?i-us?, united states- latin america, a society with positive values (legality, moderation) and ?he/she-they-other?, the arabs, the afghans, representatives of the values rejected by society (extremist, illegal).

Studies prior to intervention in historical buildings: two practical examples- “Las Covachuelas” (Alcazar de Toledo) and The Town Hall of the Cortijo de San Isidro (Aranjuez)
Macías, V.,Martínez, E.
Informes de la Construccion , 2011,
Abstract: We will discuss questions of the intervention of historical buildings. We will try, therefore, to define a methodological and documental approach to be used in the phases prior to the study, diagnosis and understanding of the behavior of the building. We have worked on these prior phases, presenting a detailed study of two models in which we will find all of the problems. We shall try to extrapolate, with actual examples of significant importance, some concrete solutions for a general methodology applicable to similar constructions. The following examples are developed: The Alcazar de Toledo: specifically, the area known as the “Covalchuelas”, and the vaults which are still found in this construction. The Cortijo de San Isidro in Aranjuez, specifically the Town Hall, is the object of an integral interior remodeling. It is composed of various dependencies and farmland created in the times of Carlos III as model of agricultural exploitation.
