Time Step Issue in Unit Hydrograph for Improving Runoff Prediction in Small Catchments  [PDF]

Abstract: Unit hydrograph is a very practical tool in runoff prediction which has been used since decades ago and to date it remains useful. Unit hydrograph method is applied in Way Kuala Garuntang, an ungauged catchment in Lampung Province, Indonesia. To derive an observed unit hydrograph it requires rainfall and water level data with fine time scale which are obtained from automatic gauges. Observed unit hydrograph has an advantage that it is possible to derive it for various time steps including those with time step less than an hour. In order to get a more accurate unit hydrograph, it is necessary to derive a unit hydrograph with small time step for a small catchment such as those used in this study. The study area includes Way Kuala Garuntang and its tributaries, i.e. Way Simpur, Way Awi with areas are 60.52 km2, 3.691 km2, and 9.846 km2 respectively. The results of this study highlight the importance of time step selection on unit hydrograph, which are shown to have a significant impact on the resulting unit hydrograph’s variables such as peak discharge and time to peak.

Abstract: Note from the Editor The Indonesian archipelago is one of the most active tectonic zones in the world. Therefore to design an important (and dangerous) structure such as a nuclear power plan knowledge of the seismicity of the site is very important. This could be achieved by doing a site-specific seismic hazard analysis. A site-specific seismic hazard analysis is required in the design state in order to determine the recommended seismic design criteria of the structure. A complete and thorough explanation of the methodology to do a site-specific seismic hazard analysis is presented in this Technical Note Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia :
KINERJA ZEOLIT DALAM MEMPERBAIKI MUTU MINYAK GORENG BEKAS [Zeolit Performance in Improving the Quality of Used Oil]

Abstract: The aim of this study was to improve the used oil by treatment with zeolite in order to absorb the undesirable components in the oil. Sample of used oil were heated with active zeolite (A1) and natural zeolite (A2) at 2% (B1), 6% (B2) and 10% (B3) in boiled water-bath for 30 minutes. The control was used oil without treatment. After filtered, the oil were analyzed for moisture content, acid number, peroxide value, clearness, colour and viscosity. The results indicated that treating used oil with 10% zeolite could reduce the initial level of tested parameters The reductions were: moisture content and volatile matters 50%, acid number 7% , clearness 3.9% and reduction of peroxide value was 33,8%. However the color and viscosity of the treated oils were not different from the used oil. Active zeolite was more effective than natural zeolite in absorbing the undesirable contaiment
The Impact of Changing Storage Area on Flood Magnitude and Occurrence

Abstract: This study focuses on the impact of combined catchment and storage upon flood occurrences and flood peaks. A significant factor that plays an important role of the combined catchment and storage is the ratio of contributing catchment area to storage area (AC/AS) where the impact significantly shows increasing frequency of storage overflow and flood peaks with the increasing of AC/AS. Some case studies examined in this work, i.e. Way Pegadungan (Lampung, Sumatra) and NagaraRiver (South Kalimantan) catchments show similar behavior. Swamps located on the sides of downstream of Way Pegadungan as well as Nagara River act as storages during flood events. The dyke which was planned to be built increases the ratio of AC/AS significantly as storage area reduced considerably. This has an impact on flood peaks which can increase considerably. The improved understanding of these process controls will be useful in assisting the management of such catchments, particularly to assist in flood prevention and mitigation.
Synthesis of Nanocrystalline N-Doped TiO2 and Its Application on High Efficiency of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Abstract: Nanocrystalline of Nitrogen-doped TiO2 (N-doped TiO2) has been synthesized through the hydrolysisof N-substituted titanium isopropoxide precursors. The XRD result showed that the structure ofannealed N-doped TiO2 was anatase. The pore properties were investigated from nitrogen gas sorptionanalyzer, showing mesoporous structure of its N-doped TiO2 with a high specific surface area (167m2/g) and a sharp pore radius distribution. The substitution of oxygen sites with nitrogen atoms in thetitania structure was confirmed by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) with 3.6% nitrogencontain. A clear decrease in the band gap on N-doped TiO2 (compared to Degussa P25) is deducedfrom the optical absorption spectroscopy results. Application of synthesized nanocrystalline N-dopedTiO2 on dye-sensitized solar cells resulted 4.8% overall conversion efficiency, which was higher thanthe Degussa P25.

Abstract: The population of Indonesia is very large, the majority are women, if properly guided and directed it will be workers who are very favorable for development efforts. Protection policies that are specific to women workers in addition directed to ensure the safety and health associated with reproductive functions inherent in self female workers also unsure equality of employment opportunities and the security treatment without discrimination in the workplace (equality and gender justice). As a saveguard against the work need to be increased through improved working condition, working condition, as mell as working relationship in order to improve the welfare of workers as a whole and for workers and protection of women need to be considered in accordance with the status and dignity. PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Yogyakarta that is one of the mayor hospitals in Yogyakarta City are certainly a lot of hiring nurse with the number of male nurse as many as 175 people and nursing women as many as 226 people. By employing female nurse was then the hospital must also provide the rights of women to nurse in accordance with the minimum set by law. The purpose of this study was to find out execution protection against female nurses in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Yogyakarta. The subject of this study was female nurses who were taken asa many as 3 people end the head of personal. Data taken by the interview guide. This was qualitative research. Data analysis was done by using an explanation (explanation building). Implementation of working time there is excess of 2 hours for shift 3 (night) that have not been counted as overtime, RSU PKU Muhammadiyah imposed only official holiday for 3 day, the granting of maternity leave / birth / biological autumn, annual leave has been granted in accordandance with the regulations, provision of food and drinks for female nurses who work in night shift has not complied with, the implementation of remuneration are accordance with existing regulations, the implementation Jamsostek compliance with regulations.

Abstract: Background: Vegetables can be eaten whole or in part in fresh or raw (fresh vegetables) or cooked. Vegetables is beneficial for health because they contain relatively high nutritional vita-mins and minerals, one of which is cabbage or cabbage. Cabbage has dicucipun may still con-tain pests and diseases, such as nematodes. Due to poor washing. In Indonesia, the nematode intestine is still a public health problem is Ascaris lumbricoides, hookworm and Trichuris trichi-ura. Soil, vegetables and water is an important transmission media, a growing number of eggs found in the sources of contamination (vegetable, soil, etc.) will be accompanied by an increase in the degree of endemics. Advanced Research goal is to look at the relationship between the behavior of washing vegetables with intestinal nematode egg contamination in vegetable cab-bage merchant in the Village of catfish pecel Warungboto city of Yogyakarta. This study has the benefit of policy – making in disease eradication wormy and add information that is consumed raw vegetables can infect humans through the intestinal nematode egss Atlanta. Methods: The study was observational analytic study with cross sectional research design. Washing behavior obtained by direct observation to guide traders with check list. Vegetable sprouts are used as raw vegetables (vegetables) contained on the merchant pecel Warungboto catfish in the Village of Yogyakarta. Wash solution for the deposition of intestinal nematode eggs used was 0.2% NaOH solution. Examination conducted by using techniques of direct ex-amination and then examined under a microscope. Data examination of the behavior of the cabbage and wash vegetables presence or absence of intestinal nematode eggs, species of intestinal nematode eggs. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with chi square analysis. Examination results: The results of this examination showed that of 26 respondents found 16 respondents (61.5%) had not properly washing vegetables and 10 respondents (38.5%) had a good washing vegetables. Bivariate analysis for the behavioral relationship with the intestinal nematode egg contamination in vegetable cabbage is a value sig = 0.35 is greater than the value of alpha (? = 0.05) and RP = 3.125 (95% CI: 0.424 to 23.007). Conclusion: There were no relationship between the behavior of washing vegetables with egg contamination in vegetable cabbage worms in the shop pecel catfish Yogyakarta Village Wa-rungboto 2011. Formation and Pathogenicity Variation of Oospores of Phytophthora capsici Infecting Black Pepper

Abstract: Phytophthora capsici Leonian is the causal agent of foot rot disease of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.). Foot rot disease is the most destructive disease which can cause significant economic losses of black pepper. Two mating types of P. capsici were found in black pepper plantations in Lampung. This research was aimed at examining the effects of temperature, light, and polycarbonate membrane on oospore formation. Also the effect of light on germination and determining both mating types of 30 randomly selected progenies. The results showed thatoospores were produced through either hyphal contact or without any contact. Oospores were produced abundantly on V8 agar in the dark at 16-24 °C. Oospores germinated after 3-weeks incubation in the dark followed by 1-week incubation under TL fluorescent light. All progeny were heterothallic, and consisted of 16 isolates of A1 mating type and 14 isolates of A2 mating type. There was no correlation between mating type categories and their pathogenicities on black pepper leaves. Twenty-six progeny isolates may infect unwounded pepper leaves, whereas another four isolates may only infect wounded pepper leaves. Pathogenicities of all progenies were lower than those of their parents.
Student Modeling using Case-Based Reasoning in Conventional Learning System

Abstract: Conventional face-to-face classrooms are still the main learning system applied in Indonesia. In assisting such conventional learning towards an optimal learning, formative evaluations are needed to monitor the progress of the class. This task can be very hard when the size of the class is large. Hence, this research attempted to create a classroom monitoring system based on student’s data of Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology UGM. In order to achieve the goal, a student modeling using Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) was proposed. A generic student model based on jCOLIBRI 2.3 framework was developed. The model represented student’s knowledge of a subject. The result showed that the system was able to store and retrieve student’s data for suggestion of the current situation and formative evaluation for one of the subject in the Department.
