Seroprevalence of Mycoplasma bovis Infection in Dairy Cows in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam  [PDF]

Abstract: A cross-sectional study was carried out to investigate the seroprevalence of M. bovis. A total of 606 serum samples were randomly collected from dairy cows in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Commercial ELISA kit was used for detection of antibody to M. bovis. The results indicated that overall seroprevalence was 80.2% (486/606). There were no significant differences between regions or age categories (P > 0.05). Degree of infection to M. bovis commonly distributed at positive degree 1 (68.5%) and 2 (24.1%). Seroprevalence at highest positive degree 4 were found in District 9, District 12 and Thu Duc (6.7%, 6.3% and 1.6%, respectively). This study is the first report of seroprevalence of M. bovis in Vietnam. The results suggested that M. bovis was spreading among dairy cow populations although degree of positivity was low. It should be considered as a high risk pathogen to dairy cows in Vietnam.

Remarks on Frink's metrization technique and applications

Abstract: In this paper, we give a simple counterexample to show again the limit of Frink's construction. As applications, we answer two conjectures posed by Berinde and Choban, calculate the induced metric from given $b$-metrics, and prove that the generalized metric in the sense of Branciari is metrizable. We also show that Banach contraction principles in $b$-metric spaces adn $g.m.s$'s may be deduced from Banach contraction principle in metric spaces.

Abstract: In this paper, two open questions on strong $b$-metric spaces posed by Kirk and Shahzad [11, Chapter 12] are investigated. A counter-example is constructed to give a negative answer to the first question, and a theorem on the completion of a strong $b$-metric space is proved to give a positive answer to the second question.
The Effects of Shade Tree Types on Light Variation and Robusta Coffee Production in Vietnam  [PDF]

Abstract: Vietnam is well-known as the second largest global coffee producer and the largest worldwide exporter of Robusta coffee. However, the Robusta coffee sector in Vietnam is facing many problems, including low quality, high external inputs and water shortages as a result of shade tree eradication. A six-month research project was conducted that focused on effects of shaded tree types on variation of light intensity and aspects of Robusta production. Three shade tree species at different planting densities and shade provision were investigated, including 46 trees of Durian ha–1 (14% shade), 35 trees of Sennaha–1 (17% shade), and 60 trees of Leucaena ha–1 (34% shade), and unshaded site (Open) was used as a control. The study found that light intensity declined 50% with Durian, 58% with Senna and 60% with Leucaena compared with the Open site (2096 μmol?m–2?s–1). Within the coffee canopy, a significant decline in light intensity was observed from the top of the canopy to the bottom. The percentage of light at the middle (90 cm above ground) and bottom (30cm) levels of the coffee canopy was declined by 81% and 88% respectively for the Open site, and 86% and 92% for the Leucaena site. There were no differences in the number of flowers branch–1 tree–1 and fruit set between shaded and unshaded coffee sites. However, a significant difference in first fruit drop was observed.
A Survey of Membrane Proteins in Human Serum

Abstract: Serum and membrane proteins are two of the most attractive targets for proteomic analysis. Previous membrane protein studies tend to focus on tissue sample, while membrane protein studies in serum are still limited. In this study, an analysis of membrane proteins in normal human serum was carried out. Nano-liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (NanoLC-ESI-MS/MS) and bioinformatics tools were used to identify membrane proteins. Two hundred and seventeen membrane proteins were detected in the human serum, of which 129 membrane proteins have at least one transmembrane domain (TMD). Further characterizations of identified membrane proteins including their subcellular distributions, molecular weights, post translational modifications, transmembrane domains and average of hydrophobicity, were also implemented. Our results showed the potential of membrane proteins in serum for diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
A generalization of ?iri? fixed point theorem

Abstract: In this paper, we state and prove a generalization of \'Ciri\'c fixed point theorems in metric space by using a new generalized quasi-contractive map. These theorems extend other well known fundamental metrical fixed point theorems in the literature. Moreover, a multi-valued version for generalized quasi-contraction is also established.
