Despre tolerant , pluralism si recunoasterea celorlalti/ On Tolerance, Pluralism and the Recognition of Others
Mircea Dumitru
Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies , 2005,
Abstract: The paper examines some presuppositions of toleration and pluralism and explores two models, a deontological and a consequentialist model, that could support the view that rational agents should act in a tolerant way. Within the first model two arguments are given in favor of the view that people are better off and more rational if they are tolerant. The first argument draws upon a principle of charity that one usually makes use of in philosophy of mind and philosophy of language, but which could work equally well with regard to this foundational issue in ethics and philosophy of action. The second argument is built upon the epistemic principle of fallibilism and is meant to show that from this vantage point acting in a tolerant way is the rational thing to do.

Iterative Methods for Obtaining Energy-Minimizing Parametric Snakes with Applications to Medical Imaging

Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/918510
Abstract: After a brief survey on the parametric deformable models, we develop an iterative method based on the finite difference schemes in order to obtain energy-minimizing snakes. We estimate the approximation error, the residue, and the truncature error related to the corresponding algorithm, then we discuss its convergence, consistency, and stability. Some aspects regarding the prosthetic sugical methods that implement the above numerical methods are also pointed out.

MIRANDA RULE. IMPACT ON THE ROMANIAN CRIMINAL TRIAL
Mircea DAMASCHIN,Corina DUMITRU
Lex et Scientia , 2009,
Abstract: We hereby want to analyze the right of the accused or of the defendant against self incrimination in a criminal trial, a relatively recent right introduced in the Romanian law, directly connected with the right to self defense in a criminal trial. Furthermore, we will approach the obligations held by the Romanian legislator, within the prerogatives of the criminal legal authorities for guaranteeing this right and meanings that can be retained in case of breach of such procedure. In order to establish the origin of the regulation, the first section of the study will describe the history of the institution, starting from the Supreme Court jurisprudence from the state if Arizona in the already famous trial Arizona vs. Miranda. We will further present the legal framework instituted for implementing this right in the European legal space, section in which we will also approach the position of the European Court of Human Rights with respect to the issue subjected to the analysis. In the third section, we will present the legal framework instituted in Romania, while attempting to mainly highlight the legal relevance of this basic procedural right, as well as the possibility of retaining the existence of an inter conditioning with the principle of the right to a fair trial, according to the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
Asymptotic Behaviour of the Iterates of Positive Linear Operators
Ioan Gavrea,Mircea Ivan
Abstract and Applied Analysis , 2011, DOI: 10.1155/2011/670509
Abstract: We present a general result concerning the limit of the iterates of positive linear operators acting on continuous functions defined on a compact set. As applications, we deduce the asymptoticbehaviour of the iterates of almost all classic and new positive linear operators.
Stochastic poisson equations associated to lie algebroids and some refinements of a principal bundle
Gheorghe Ivan,Dumitru Opris
Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the stochastic Poisson equations associated to Lie algebroids. The stochastic Poisson equations associated to a refinement of a concrete principal bundle are determined.
Fractional Dynamical Systems on Fractional Leibniz Algebroids
Gheorghe Ivan,Mihai Ivan,Dumitru Opris
Mathematics , 2007,
Abstract: The theory of derivative of noninteger order goes back to Leibniz, Liouville and Riemann. Derivatives of fractional order have found many applications in recent studies in mechanics, physics, economics. In this paper we define the fractional tangent bundle on a manifold, using a method of Radu Miron. The fractional Leibniz algebroids are investigated. The associated objects have an geometric character. Some fractional dynamical systems on a fractional Leibniz algebroid are disscussed.
The equivalent stress concept in multiaxial fatigue
DUMITRU Ion,KUN Lorand,DREUCEAN Mircea,MENYHARDT Karoly
Journal of Engineering Studies and Research , 2011,
Abstract: Some equivalent stress methods, applicable for life prediction in case of multiaxial loading, are presented in this paper, such as empirical equivalent stresses, frequency and “signed von Mises” stress. To apply the latter method, a calculation program that allows the transformation of a fluctuating load cycle into a fully reversed cycle is developed. The authors extend the equivalent stress concept towards critical plane models. This is illustrated by a calculated equivalent shear stress based on the Yokobori criterion. Both the signed von Mises” and Yokobori approaches have the advantage of allowing multiaxial fatigue calculations for limited durability, as opposed to classical methods which are applicable only for unlimited durability.
Rate of convergence of beta operators of second kind for functions with derivatives of bounded variation
Vijay Gupta,Ulrich Abel,Mircea Ivan
International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences , 2005, DOI: 10.1155/ijmms.2005.3827
Abstract: We study the approximation properties of beta operators of second kind. We obtain the rate of convergence of these operators for absolutely continuous functions having a derivative equivalent to a function of bounded variation.
