LA FOTOVOZ COMO ESTRATEGIA PARA LA RECOLECCIóN DE DATOS EN UNA INVESTIGACIóN ETNOGRáFICA

Abstract: the aim of this study is to describe the use of the photographic resource the photovoice, as a strategy in data collection in an ethnographic research. the study was done at the university hospital of university of s?o paulo, brazil. the collaborators were pregnant women, who during their prenatal attendance visited this hospital. for data collection cameras were lent to the collaborators to take pictures of the areas in the hospital they classified as interesting. once, the films were developed, the researcher appointed interviews with these pregnant women to discuss the pictures. data were presented by narrative and their analyses were done based on the interpretative biographical method. the results showed that the photographic resource -the photovoice- was important in all the phases of the research: during the interview, giving voice to the collaborators of the study, helping to remember the visit to the hospital and the transcription of the narratives and their analyses

Abstract: this article describes the use of the photography for data collection in an ethnographic research. this study aims to understand the women's perception related to the hospital where they were supposed to give birth. these women were invited to take pictures of the hospital. after developing the pictures, the researcher appointed interviews and the pictures gave voice to them. the women pointed out positive and negative aspects related to the hospital, that were the reasons for their anxiety and stress. the use of photography allowed to dispel the myth of the factors that influence on the birth process.

Abstract: this objective of this study based on pictorial ethnography is to understand the experience of women in their contact with the health system during pregnancy. the data were presented by narrative and their analysis was done based on the interpretative and biographical method. from the interviews eight cultural categories were taken, from which emerged three cultural themes: "classification of life experiences," "advancement of the birth process" and "taking pictures of significant events." the findings allowed for a comprehensive vision of the particpants' cultural knowledge related to their interaction with the health system, as well as their expectations of the puerperal gravid cycle.

Abstract: the anthropological approach and the pictorial ethnography allow the professionals who work in the health and nursing services to have a better understanding of the phenomenon related to health-disease, which permits the effective assistance to meet the users' needs and expectations. the aim of this study was to understand the pregnant women's experience concerning their contact with the maternal-infantile health service before labor. it is a qualitative research developed in the school hospital of usp. the participants were six pregnant women who used the hospital services and the data were collected through interviews and photos taken by the participants. the data were categorized according to janesick's proposal and interpreted based on donabedian's model. the results showed that the visual language provides a better understanding of the cultural meanings and, in this way, it improves the health assistance given to the users and the evaluation of health services.

Abstract: this ethnographic study aimed to understand women's experiences related to their contact with the health system due to pregnancy. cultural anthropology and ethnography were used as a theoretical-methodological reference framework. data were collected through participant observation, photographical resources and interviews. the pictures were taken by pregnant women, who received prenatal care at the basic health units in the area covered by the school hospital, which was considered the cultural scenario for this study. the data were presented as a narrative and were analyzed through the interpretative and biographical method. data resulted in eight categories, which gave rise to three cultural themes, by means of which the collaborators recover and classify their experiences, in order to ratify the results of important events considered positive or to reconsider the negative events. next, they glimpse at the birth process in all of its dimensions. the eye of the camera sometimes allowed them to register and absorb facts, and sometimes avoided the capturing of things that would be difficult for them to elaborate at that moment. the findings of this study allowed for a comprehensive view on the collaborators' cultural knowledge, in relation to their interaction with the health system, as well as their expectations in the pregnancy-puerperal cycle.

Abstract: El abordaje antropológico y la fotoetnografía permite que los profisionales que actúem en los servicios de la salud y de enfermería, tengan una compreensión más amplia sobre el fénomeno salud-enfermedad, propiciando una atención más efectiva de las necesidades y expectativas de los usuarios. Este estudio tuvo por objetivo comprender la experiencia de las gestantes frente al contacto que tuvieron con el servicio de salud materno-infantil por ocasión del parto. Este estudio es una investigación cualitativa, cuyo escenario fue el Hospital Universitario de la USP. Las participantes de la investigación fueron seis gestantes usuarias de la referida institución y la colecta de datos ocurrió por medio dela entrevistas y de fotografías tomadas por las propias participantes. Los datos fueron categorizados según el camino propuesto por Janesick e interpretados através del modelo donabediano. Los hallazgos demostraron que el linguaje visual puede favorecer una mejor atención de los significados culturales y así, dar auxilio para una mejoría en el atendimiento a los usuarios y la evaluacion de los servicios de la salud.

Abstract: El objetivo de este estudio es describir la utilización del recurso fotográfico la fotovoz, como una estrategia para la recolección de datos en una investigación etnográfica. El estudio fue realizado en el Hospital Universitario de la Universidad de Sao Paulo (HU-USP), situado en el área municipal de Sao Paulo (Brasil). La población fue constituida por gestantes que, durante el período pre-natal, visitaron el citado hospital donde pretendían dar a luz a sus bebés. Para la recolección de datos, fueron facilitadas, a las gestantes, máquinas fotográficas, para que fotografiasen todos los aspectos que considerasen relevantes durante la visita. Después de la revelación de las películas fotográficas, la investigadora entrevistó a esas gestantes, para que fuese discutido el contenido de las fotos. El análisis de las narrativas fue realizado a través del método biográfico interpretativo. Los resultados mostraron que el recurso fotográfico -la fotovoz- fue de vital importancia en todas las fases de la investigación: Durante las entrevistas, dándoles voz a las colaboradoras del estudio, auxiliando en el proceso de recordar la visita al hospital, durante la transcripción de las narrativas y durante el propio análisis The aim of this study is to describe the use of the photographic resource the photovoice, as a strategy in data collection in an ethnographic research. Abstract: this ethnographic study is aimed at understanding a group of women's knowledge about menopause and how they experience it. the methods used for data collection were participant observation, recorded interviews and previously produced drawings. data were analyzed based on a theoretical framework using both the ethnographic method and biographic interpretativism. from the narratives the authors obtained the cultural categories and themes. thus it was possible to conclude that menopause is understood as a result of a unique construction integrated to a network of meanings built by the group that condition knowledge and experience within certain cultural patterns, among them the fact that menopause means leaving womanhood behind.

Abstract: this is an ethnographic study that aims to understand the experience of adolescents during pregnancy and birth process of their child. the method used for data collection was semi-structured interviews and participant observation. in data collection there were field notes. the interviews were transcribed, transcreated in a narrative way, identifying the critical vital tones. the construction of narratives derived from the organization of the categories from the perusal of the data, which resulted in the development of three themes. the process of health-resilience was characterized from the interweaving of the themes developed, and the social support offered to adolescents encourage the changes necessary to the full personal development of the pregnant woman, who becomes a teenage mother responsible, careful, free to take decisions and aware of their role in society.

Abstract: this is an ethnographic study developed in a community, in brazil. its objectives were to understand the care with wounds. concepts of cultural anthropology and of the theory of social representations were adopted as theoretical frameworks. the narratives of eight women and the analyses of data showed that, in this community, the inhabitants have peculiar manner of explaining the wounds, admitting natural, social and a spiritual causes more than therapeutic procedures. a hiatus between the health professionals and the population was identified, demonstrating that mainly linguistic and cultural barriers generate this. in conclusion, this study showed the importance and the need for the establishment of intercultural dialogue between those two groups, which can be achieved by means of changes in the paradigms that guide the teaching, the research and the practice of nurses and other health professionals
