Comparativo de la calidad de vida del adulto mayor. Medellín, 2008

Abstract: objective: compare the quality of life of older adults in medellin with two groups. methodology: comparative descriptive study of secondary information source, using the 82,601 records in the quality of life survey of 2008, distributed into three groups: youth, adults and seniors. the analysis was univariate and bivariate, the demographic, economic, social and health security, together with statistical tests of association. results: older adults account for 9.2%, with female advantage, marital status was married, with a marked difference in the condition of widowhood and 39% did not record any education. economically it was found that 34.7% engaged in the home, 34.1% are retired and 9.5% continues to work with an average income of a minimum wage. the 71.4% is affiliated to the contributive regime, preventive medical consultations take place at higher rates than young and 31.3% do not. only 7.3% fell ill last month and his sufferings were hypertension, stress and depression. conclusions: the older adult with no differences against the other two groups, but age makes it more vulnerable in economic and health conditions have limited the access to opportunities, by not acceding to the demands that the means of production and society require, forgetting their experience and wisdom gained in the course of his life.

La segunda transición demográfica y el nivel de desarrollo de los departamentos de Colombia, 2005

Abstract: objective: to analyze the behavior of some demographic characteristics for each department to identify the state of demographic transition and its relationship to the development level. methodology: descriptive study based on secondary information sources published by the national statistics department and the national planning department. results: the global fertility rate of the country was 2.5 in 2005. chocó reported the highest rate whereas bogotá reported the lowest. a total of 67% of colombian states registered higher rates than the average rate in the country. mortality rate of children in the country was 24.5, with the lowest rates registered in el valle, caldas, and bogotá. the highest rates were registered in arauca and chocó. 26.6% of colombian states show some advance in the demographic transition process. by contrast, 67% of the states are classified as lagged behind. there is a relation between the demographic transition index and the development indicators. conclusion: although some departments reach an advanced level of demographic transition, most of them still show high rates of infant mortality or fecundity which keep them behind in this process. inequalities in living conditions of the country?s departments could be influencing the behavior of the demographic components analyzed.

Abstract: objetivo: hacer una revisión narrativa a la construcción del concepto de calidad de vida, su historia y evolución, pasando por diferentes enfoques y paradigmas que lo moldean de acuerdo con los significados culturales del momento. materiales y métodos: se realizó una revisión bibliográfica, expuesta en forma narrativa, a algunos autores que abordan el concepto de calidad de vida desde diferentes enfoques. resultados: el concepto de calidad de vida ha pasado de ser una forma abstracta del bienestar y felicidad a ser considerado operativamente como el nivel de vida y condiciones de vida según diferentes disciplinas y áreas del saber, tanto filosóficas y éticas como económicas, sociales y culturales. conclusiones: la construcción de significados culturales y representaciones sociales de un individuo parten de un proceso mental formado desde el contexto en el que vive y se desarrolla, que le dan sentido a la vida y hacen que esta tenga calidad.

Abstract: objective: to review the psychological harassment as a form of labor violence to which colombian and worldwide worker population is exposed. materials and methods: narrative revision of psychological harassment at work with emphasis in colombian current situation. results: psychological harassment at work has been defined as a repeated and irrational behavior with respect to a person or group of people; it grows and develops in the work environment affecting mental, physical and social health of the individual, his or her family, and the harasser, as well as the company performance. in colombia, psychological harassment prevalence is estimated to be 19.8%, verbal aggression 12.8%, with bosses being the most frequent aggressors (40%). discussion: the studied event is a recent though no new phenomenon which worldwide tendency is increasing; studies performed in colombia report higher proportions in relation to other countries and there is not legislation to control it. conclusions: psychological harassment at work is a risk that must be prevented by public health policies to mitigate damages caused to workers, families, companies and society.

Abstract: objective. to identify attitudes towards fertility among teenagers. methodology. cross sectional descriptive study where 1178 teenagers between 12 and 18 years old participated. a survey with questions linked to fertility was applied. the research was carried out in the city of medellin (colombia) in 2009. results. more than 60% of the teenagers have a favorable attitude towards sexual education, both at home as well as school. they consider sexual practices and the use of contraceptive methods make part of the human rights, and sex helps the development of the personality. 30% of the surveyed teenagers agreed abortion should be respected as a decision made by woman, and about 20% think having a child is the best way to keep their couple and show them their love. teenagers recognized parents as an important source of information in topics related with fertility, as well as family communication about sexual and reproductive health, which has been documented as an important strategy to protect the teenagers. conclusion. teenagers attitudes towards sexual and reproductive health should be taken into account to define educational strategies in health to improve them.

Abstract: objective: to assess the frequency of depression in a group of pensioners belonging to physical activity and/or associations of universidad de antioquia. materials and methods: a cross descriptive study was carried between april and may 2005. one hundred pensioners taking part in physical activity and/or associations were selected: fifty men and fifty women. median age: 65.7 years. the yesavage geriatric depression scale was applied and some demographic, economic, functional, affective, familiar and time use aspects were surveyed. results: six per cent total depression was found. highest values were found in women, in people more recently retired, in people without labor activities after retirement, in people considering they suffer bad economic situation and in persons who do not performed physical activities. a statistically significant was found especially between depression and the feeling of bad economic situation. conclusions: depression was inferior compared with other researches. that could be explained by the sample and possibly for the protective factor implicit in group sharing.

Abstract: introduction: quality of life is a concept that has evolved through time, happening of the well-being to the standard of life, in accordance with the social and cultural conditions of the time; its different definition is vague and adopts several meanings following the perception, context and scale of values, for this reason it takes elements from different disciplines for its conceptualization and can be moderate of general form or through their social, economic, personal components, of health and social security. objective: to describe the perception on different aspects of life quality among men and women from 20 to 64 y.o., resident in medellín in 2005, with a design of complex sampling, and the purpose of contributing to the state of the art. materials and methods: a cross-sectional descriptive population study was designed, with primary source of information constituted by two samples: 659 men and 683 women, who represented 523,705 and 651,704, respectively, according to factors of population expansion; selected with probabilistic complex sampling, stratified by socioeconomic level, cluster sampling. five people by cluster and only one person by house were considered, to them a survey designed by the investigators was applied, taking as reference generic scales and applied by inquirer personnel hired by universidad de antioquia. results: adult population valued over 75% personal, social perception, state of health and house conditions; the economic situation reached 39% and the attention in health 64%, the best one described by both sexes was the personal life with 80% and the present quality of life with 77% obtaining a higher valuation among men. conclusions: life quality to the adult population of medellín was explained mainly by personal satisfaction, economic conditions and social security, without significant differences in the general valuation, among men and women.

Abstract: Objetivo. Identificar as atitudes frente a fecundidade dos adolescentes escolarizados. Metodologia. Estudo descritivo transversal realizado com a participa o de 1178 adolescentes 12 e 18 anos a quem se lhes aplicou uma enquete com perguntas relacionadas com fecundidade. A investiga o foi realizada na cidade de Medellín (Col mbia) em 2009. Resultados. Mais do 60% dos jovens têm uma atitude favorável para a educa o sexual, tanto no lar como na escola; consideram que exercer a sexualidade e utilizar os métodos anticonceptivos fazem parte dos direitos humanos, e que as rela es sexuais ajudam ao desenvolvimento da personalidade. O 30% dos interrogados esteve de acordo que o aborto deve ser respeitado como uma decis o da mulher e cerca do 20% pensa que ter um filho é a melhor forma de conservar o casal e de demonstrar-lhe seu amor. Os adolescentes reconhecem nos pais uma importante fonte de informa o nos temas relacionados com a fecundidade, assim mesmo a comunica o ao interior da família sobre aspectos relacionados com a saúde sexual e reprodutiva, a qual se documentou como uma importante estratégia para a prote o dos jovens. Conclus o. As atitudes dos adolescentes frente à saúde sexual e reprodutiva devem ter-se em conta para a defini o de estratégias educativas em saúde que propenda pelo melhoramento das mesmas.
