Low Magnesium with High Potassium Supply Changes Sugar Partitioning and Root Growth Pattern Prior to Visible Magnesium Deficiency in Leaves of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)  [PDF]

Abstract: This research was conducted to investigate the effects of low magnesium (Mg) with high potassium (K) supply on the Mg concentration, sugar partitioning and root growth of rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Wuyunjing 7) plants grown in hydroponics under greenhouse conditions, at Nanjing Agricultural University, China. The nutrient solution contained 0.01 and 1.0 mM Mg concentration, with K at 1.0 and 6.0 mM. Compared with the control (1mM Mg and K) treatment, the soluble sugar content at the treatment of low Mg (0.01 mM) with high K (6 mM) decreased by 35.7% in leaves, whereas increased 29.2% in roots at day 15 after treatment initiation. The shoot dry weight (DW) declined 12.9%, but root DW increased 12.1% leading to the significant increase in the root to shoot ratio at day 30. Furthermore, the total root length, total root surface area, root volume, average root diameter, total length of 0 - 0.5 mm and 0.5 - 1.0 mm diameter roots at day 30 significantly increased by 11.8%, 16.4%, 25.3%, 8.1%, 16.6% and 12.5%, respectively. Correlation analysis revealed the root to shoot ratio is closely related to the soluble sugar contents in roots and root morphological parameters of rice at day 15 and day 30. The typical visible symptoms of Mg deficiency in leaves of rice were obtained in the treatment of low Mg with high K at day 35. These findings indicated that low Mg with high K supply altered sugar partitioning and root morphological parameters, resulting in the increased root to shoot ratio prior to visible Mg deficiency symptoms in rice leaves. The increase in root to shoot ratio maybe an important adaptive mecha-nism for rice plants to respond to low-Mg stress during the early growth stage.
Atom-Economic Reaction: Preparation and Mechanism of Nano-SrB2O4 by Solid-State Reaction  [PDF]

Abstract: Nano-SrB2O4 powder was prepared by solid-state reaction at room temperature followed by a subsequent calcination process. The highly productive method which can be operated easily confirms to the Green-chemistry principles. The XRD patters demonstrate that the component of the as-obtained sample is SrB2O4 after calcination at 600℃. Differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetriy (DTA/TG) curves suggest the process of dehydration and crystal transition from Sr[B(OH)4]2 to SrB2O4·2H2O. SEM image of SrB2O4 shows that the particles are uniform and spherical with average size of 80 nm in diameter. Furthermore, the mechanism of reaction was discussed. The chemical reaction of the process is assumed to be acid-base neutralization reaction. The water generated from the acid-base neutralization reaction and the release of crystal water from Sr(OH)2·8H2O plays an essential role in the reaction system.
The Effect of Drama Types and Brand Familiarity on Brand Attitude in Brand Placement  [PDF]

Abstract:
Recent years, with the popularity of the costume drama, brand placement began to appear in the costume drama, such as “vip.com” in drama “Fighter of the Destiny”, and “Unifon” in the drama “Princess Agents”. This phenomenon is very controversial while attracting eyeballs. The large amount of audience can bring exposure to the brand, but many views complain about its rigid, and reducing the brand attitude. Based on the above phenomena, this article builds up a theoretical model including drama types, brand familiarity and consumers’ attitude toward implanted brand. We validate it through two empirical studies, and the results show that, for high-familiar brands, placement into modern dramas will result in more active brand attitudes than places into costume dramas; for low-familiar brands, there is no significant difference between the two. The research results enrich the existing theories of advertising implants. Besides, it also provides references for the exposure of brands in different brand cycles in television programs, in order to obtain the best publicity and economic benefits.
A Novel Joint Radio Resource Management with Radio Resource Reallocation in the Composite 3G Scenario

Abstract: Joint Radio Resource Management (JRRM) is the envisaged approach to optimize the radio resource usage of the heterogeneous wireless networks. In particular, this study proposes a novel Joint Radio Resource Management framework with the Radio Resource Reallocation function to improve the radio resource efficiency. Radio Resource Reallocation entity is introduced to the JRRM framework which dynamically reallocates the ongoing sessions of different Radio Access Networks to achieve better radio resource utilization. In order to realize Radio Resource Reallocation, we build the system model of the composite 3G scenario and investigate the Radio Resource Reallocation approach based on Integer Programming. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed JRRM with Radio Resource Reallocation function can improve the radio resource efficiency and perform better than that without Radio Resource Reallocation function.
"Giving students hints” - An investigation of improving students’ problem-solving skills in high school science learning

Abstract: This study investigates the different effects of individual learning methods upon female and male students: learning with and without hints. It aims at exploring a way to narrow the gender gap in high physics education. Students were randomly assigned to the experimental and control group to solve the same problems. Quantitative and qualitative methodologies were used for this investigation. The questions were administered to 48 students (females=24, males=24) in Grade 11 in a high-school in Shanghai. We found that girls benefited more than males from individual learning with hints. Based on the results, some suggestions are presented.

Abstract: The Schwinger's representation of angular momentum(AM) relates two important fundamental models, that of AM and that of harmonic oscillator(HO). However, the representation offers only the relations of operators but not states. Here, by developing a graphic method to calculate the states, we show that the Schwinger's model is valid only with certain spin. With the relation of states, we also demonstrate how the superposition states in AM map to entangled states in HO. This study has promising applications in quantum computation, and may cast light on the relation between superposition and entanglement.
Bases of the quantum cluster algebra of the Kronecker quiver

Abstract: We construct bar-invariant $\mathbb{Z}[q^{\pm 1/2}]-$bases of the quantum cluster algebra of the Kronecker quiver which are quantum analogues of the canonical basis, semicanonical basis and dual semicanonical basis of the cluster algebra of the Kronecker quiver in the sense of \cite{sherzel},\cite{calzel} and \cite{gls} respectively. As a byproduct, we prove the positivity of the elements in these bases.
The multiplication theorem and bases in finite and affine quantum cluster algebras

Abstract: We prove a multiplication theorem for quantum cluster algebras of acyclic quivers. The theorem generalizes the multiplication formula for quantum cluster variables in \cite{fanqin}. We apply the formula to construct some $\mathbb{ZP}$-bases in quantum cluster algebras of finite and affine types. Under the specialization $q$ and coefficients to $1$, these bases are the integral bases of cluster algebra of finite and affine types (see \cite{CK1} and \cite{DXX}).

Abstract: Y. Palu has generalized the cluster multiplication formulas to 2-Calabi-Yau categories with cluster tilting objects (\cite{Palu2}). The aim of this note is to construct a variant of Y. Palu's formula and deduce a new version of the cluster multiplication formula (\cite{XiaoXu}) for acyclic quivers in the context of cluster categories.
