Abstract: During our monitoring survey of amphibians and Emys orbicularis in Lake Sülüklü (Western Anatolia, Turkey), we observed four overwintered hatchlings of European pond turtle on May 4 and 10, 2010. The average straightline maximum carapace length of the neonates captured was 26.48 mm and their average weight was 4.18 g. This observation is the second record for the Turkish population of Emys orbicularis.

Abstract: During our field work in the Tepeler Village (Ardahan, Turkey) on 27th of August, 2010, we observed hatchlings of Darevsika valentini. The mean body length of was found as 28.06±1.14 (25.3 30.4) and the total length as 70.81±3.92 (61.9 81.0). Juveniles were generally observed under stones and those portions of the roots of annual herbaceous plants which remain under stone are also used as shelters for juveniles. Neonates on the southern slopes of the hills could be individually seen and mostly, individuals aggregated [median number of individuals, 6 (115)] and lived in groups.

Ecologia Balkanica , 2011,
Abstract: The study presents data on the food composition of Horváth’s toadheaded agama, Phrynocephalus horvathi, in northern slopes of Mount Ararat (Aral k, I d r). A total of 294 prey items were determined in the digestive systems of 36 (8 males, 11 females, and 16 juveniles) individuals examined in the study. Prey groups in the food composition are included in Aranea (1.4%), Orthoptera (1.0%), Hymenoptera (73.5%), Coleoptera (23.1%) and Diptera (1.0%). No significant difference was observed between sexes regarding food composition. Consequently, Phrynocephalus horvathi is partially myrmecophagous (73.5%) and an active predator.

Abstract: The history from the end of VII to the beginning of X. centuries of the Bulgarian tribes which came into the domination of Khazar khanate after the collapse of the Great Bulgarian Empire and which was one of the most important historical figures of Eastern Europe has not been adequately clarified because of lack of written sources. Therefore, the main sources regarding history of Bulgarian tribes in this process are archaeological remains. In this sense, the most important data for the clarification of their history of becoming Turkish process of Volga Bulgarian state established in Middle Volga in the X century and Bulgarian tribes’s coming to this place has been derived from their cemeteries left by them. The cemeteries of the Kurgan Novinkovsk, which was located in the southern boundary of the Autonomous Republic of Tataristan of Russian Federation and which was identified in the regions of Samara and Ulyanovsk, are the oldest archaeological remains of Bulgarian tribes which symbolize their entrance to Middle Volga region. The purpose of this article is to clarify the culture of early period Bulgarians and the evidence of their entrance to Middle Volga region not later than the end of VII century with the materials obtained from Novinkovsk Kurgans.

Autonomic Dysfunction and Their Treatment in Spinal Cord Injury - Education
ümit Diner
Türkiye Fiziksel Tip ve Rehabilitasyon Dergisi , 2010,
Abstract: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a catastrophic condition for patients and their relatives. SCI does not lead only to motor and sensory dysfunctions, but also causes autonomic dysfunctions. Sympathetic preganglionic neurons in the spinal cord undergo some plastic changes in their morphology. Additionally, the sympathetic system shows some alterations at the level of the receptor and the mediator. After the acute period, exaggerated reflex responses and uncontrolled sympathetic outflow occur. Autonomic dysfunction has significant effects on cardiovascular and respiratory functions, thermoregulation, sweating, and sexual function. Some dysfunctions, especially cardiovascular, respiratory and thermoregulatory ones, may be life-threatening. Spinal cord injured patients with lesion above the level of the sixth thoracic segment may develop autonomic dysreflexia characterized by persistent peripheral vasoconstriction that is induced by afferent stimulation below the T6 level. Autonomic dysreflexia is an emergency condition because of its serious consequences such as intracranial hemorrhage and retinal detachment. Another autonomic dysfunction is orthostatic hypotension, which develops in two-thirds of all spinal cord injured patients within the acute or subacute period. Another disorder caused by loss of cardiac control mechanism is bradycardia. It occurs in 70% of subjects with SCI, being fatal in approximately 15% of them. Thermoregulatory mechanisms are impaired, particularly in tetraplegic patients. Accordingly, attacks of life-threatening hypothermia may be observed. Turk J Phys Med Rehab 2010; 56 Suppl 2: 93-8
