The Efficiency in Liquidity Measures during the US Monetary Announcements  [PDF]
Dimitrios I. Vortelinos, Konstantinos Gkillas, Christoforos Konstantatos, George Peppas
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2018.81006
Abstract: We examine the impact of US economic news releases in the liquidity of eleven not so extensively researched emerging stock markets. We employ ten liquidity measures. The sample begins from June 2007 up to December 2016. Analysis is performed in a weekly frequency. China is the least liquid Asian market. Peru is the most liquid Latin American market. Most of the emerging markets are positively affected by the US news, offering diversification benefits to international investors. India and Argentina (China and Chile) are the Asian and Latin American countries with the highest (lowest) impacts, respectively. There is not a single best-in-class liquidity measure. The country with the lowest liquidity has the lowest impact from the US news releases. This result holds for both groups of countries in Asia and Latin America.
Investigation of the Boriding Process of the Ti-Al Intermetallic Alloy GE48-2-2 Taking into Account the Probability of the Influence of the Substrate Modification  [PDF]
Dimitrios I. Zagkliveris, Georgios K. Triantafyllidis
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2018.911063
Abstract: Boriding of the Ti-Al intermetallic GE48-2-2 at 1273 K for 10 hours was performed. In order to ensure that no any serious alteration occurred in the substrate, it was previously examined with X-Ray Diffractometry (XRD), after it has undergone an annealing process at the temperature of boronizing. Subsequently, we examined the coating with XRD and Scanning Electron Microscopy, in order to characterize its structure and morphology. A dense TiΒ2 layer, 10 - 15 μm thick, was formed, but also Cr2B3 and NbN, BN and some Ti-Al phases were detected. Efforts were undertaken to focus on influence of the substrate modification, towards the quality of the coating.
Classification of Toric log Del Pezzo Surfaces having Picard Number 1 and Index $\le 3$
Dimitrios I. Dais
Mathematics , 2007,
Abstract: Toric log Del Pezzo surfaces with Picard number 1 have been completely classified whenever their index is $\le 2$: In this paper we extend the classification for those having index 3: We prove that, up to isomorphism, there are exactly 18 surfaces of this kind.
Resolving 3-dimensional toric singularities
Dimitrios I. Dais
Mathematics , 2001,
Abstract: This paper surveys, in the first place, some basic facts from the classification theory of normal complex singularities, including details for the low dimensions 2 and 3. Next, it describes how the toric singularities are located within the class of rational singularities, and recalls their main properties. Finally, it focuses, in particular, on a toric version of Reid's desingularization strategy in dimension three
Crepant Resolutions of Gorenstein Toric Singularities and Upper Bound Theorem
Dimitrios I. Dais
Mathematics , 2001,
Abstract: A necessary condition for the existence of torus-equivariant crepant resolutions of Gorenstein toric singularities can be derived by making use of a variant of the classical Upper Bound Theorem which is valid for simplicial balls.
On the String-Theoretic Euler Number of a Class of Absolutely Isolated Singularities
Dimitrios I. Dais
Mathematics , 2000,
Abstract: An explicit computation of the so-called string-theoretic E-function of a normal complex variety X with at most log-terminal singularities can be achieved by constructing one snc-desingularization of X, accompanied with the intersection graph of the exceptional prime divisors, and with the precise knowledge of their structure. In the present paper, it is shown that this is feasible for the case in which X is the underlying space of a class of absolutely isolated singularities (including both usual A_{n}-singularities and Fermat singularities of arbitrary dimension). As byproduct of the exact evaluation of e_{str}(X), for this class of singularities, one gets (in contrast to the expectations of V1!) counterexamples to a conjecture of Batyrev concerning the boundedness of the string-theoretic index. Finally, the string-theoretic Euler number is also computed for global complete intersections in P^{N} with prescribed singularities of the above type.
Commonsense Reasoning and Large Network Analysis: A Computational Study of ConceptNet 4
Dimitrios I. Diochnos
Computer Science , 2013,
Abstract: In this report a computational study of ConceptNet 4 is performed using tools from the field of network analysis. Part I describes the process of extracting the data from the SQL database that is available online, as well as how the closure of the input among the assertions in the English language is computed. This part also performs a validation of the input as well as checks for the consistency of the entire database. Part II investigates the structural properties of ConceptNet 4. Different graphs are induced from the knowledge base by fixing different parameters. The degrees and the degree distributions are examined, the number and sizes of connected components, the transitivity and clustering coefficient, the cores, information related to shortest paths in the graphs, and cliques. Part III investigates non-overlapping, as well as overlapping communities that are found in ConceptNet 4. Finally, Part IV describes an investigation on rules.
Natural Aging Effects on the Solutionizing Heat Treatment Process of the A6060 Al Alloy As-Cast Billets for Profile Production  [PDF]
Georgios K. Triantafyllidis, Natalyia V. Pukhalska, Dimitrios I. Zagkliveris
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2015.62014
Abstract: Recently results were presented for an R & D program for handling the as-cast billets of an Al-Si-Mg A6060 Al alloy at the solutionizing heat treatment temperature. A reduction in the solutionizing temperature of the as-cast billets from 585 to 540 was found. This leads to substantial energy savings without lowering the quality of the final commercial Al profiles. The alloy was treated from the microstructural point of view as an Aluminum Metal-Matrix Composite (Al-MMC). Strengthening of the Al matrix grains during the process was quantified and measured by micro-Vickers hardness testing. A possible application of this is to apply the suggested lower temperature solutionizing process to billets stockpiled in the factory for some months. The alloy undergoes natural aging, a physical process at ambient temperature that alters its microstructural features. Does this aging affect the quality of the lower temperature solutionizing treated profiles? The effect of the natural aging by micro-Vickers hardness testing on some of the same samples of our original work stockpiled in our lab for 10 months was investigated. We applied, further, the Image-Pro Plus image processing software on them in an effort to collect microstructural data and compared them to values taken 10 months earlier. Also we tried an interconnection between the two experimental processes treating the alloy as an Al-MMC.
A boundedness result for toric log Del Pezzo surfaces
Dimitrios I. Dais,Benjamin Nill
Mathematics , 2007,
Abstract: In this paper we give an upper bound for the Picard number of the rational surfaces which resolve minimally the singularities of toric log Del Pezzo surfaces of given index $\ell$. This upper bound turns out to be a quadratic polynomial in the variable $\ell$.

Dimitrios I. Dais,Martin Henk
Mathematics , 2002,
