Abstract: Politeness is a sociopragmatic phenomenon that determines, among others, success or failure in communication. Therefore, we consider necessary to delve into its study from the teaching perspective since it is in educational context where we work consciously on our students’ linguistic competence, in general, and on their pragmatic one, in particular. We dedicate this article on the application of politeness in the teaching scenario. We give examples of verbal and non-verbal politeness resources. We also point out its application on cross-curricular topics.

Revista Signos , 2012,
This paper approaches the issue of adequacy as a component of sociolinguistic, sociocultural and intercultural competence in the learning of Spanish as a foreign language. To accomplish this aim, we carry out a quantitative statistical type of research with the software SPSS 17 (Statistical Product and Service Solutions), in which we apply a descriptive and inferential analysis. The instrument used is a questionnaire and the participants are 59 Bulgarian students who study Spanish as a foreign language in a non-immersion context. The levels of the participants are B1, C1 and C2. It is our purpose to analyse some aspects concerning the sociolinguistic and sociocultural adequacy of students, amongst them the relation between adequacy and level of Spanish of the participants. Likewise, we pay attention to the degree in which the students tend to transfer to the target language and culture patterns pertaining to their own culture. We seek to raise awareness about the importance of intercultural adequacy, because we believe that culture of a foreign language must be taught progressively in all levels. Objectives and contents need to be planned carefully, and the degree of complexity must increa
Double adiabatic theory of collisionless geodesic acoustic modes in tokamaks
A. B. Hassam,R. G. Kleva
Physics , 2011,
Abstract: Collisionless geodesic acoustic modes in tokamaks being supersonic for large "safety factor" q, the CGL (G. Chew, M. Goldberger, F. Low, 1956)1 double-adiabatic fluid closure is applied to formulate a theory for these modes. The basic linear normal mode is obtained. External means to drive these modes at resonance, as has been proposed earlier, are explored. The external drivers considered include external magnetic forces to effect flux surface displacements, as well as non-axisymmetric ion heating. Finally, the damping of these modes from collisional magnetic pumping is investigated using a model set of CGL collision-corrected equations.
The effect of acute inflammation on total alkaline phosphatase activity in dogs
Zapryanova Dimitrinka
Macedonian Veterinary Review , 2013,
Abstract: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acute inflammation on total alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in dogs. In this study total ALP activity was determined in dogs with experimentally induced acute inflammation in order to characterize their potential value in this condition. For that, ALP concentrations were defined in plasmas from 9 mongrel male dogs (in an experimental group) and 6 mongrel male dogs (in a control group) at the age of 2 years and body weight 12-15 kg. The inflammation was reproduced by inoculation of 2 ml turpentine oil subcutaneously in lumbar region and same quantity saline in control dogs. Blood samples were collected into heparinized tubes before inoculation, then at hours 6, 24, 48, 72 and on days 7, 14, 21. The total ALP concentrations were determined with commercial kits (Human-GmbH, Germany) on an automatic biochemical analyzer (BS-3000 P, Sinnowa, LTD Nanjing China). The statistical analysis of the data was performed using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Statistica v.6.1 (StatSoft Inc., 2002). Statistically significant difference was not found between the groups, as well as within them. In conclusion, we can say that the total activity of ALP was not significantly affected in dogs with experimentally induced acute inflammation.

Neuroscience & Medicine (NM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/nm.2013.44042
Abstract: The carotid body (CB) is a small neural crest-derived organ that registers oxygen and glucose levels in blood and regulates ventilation. The most abundant cell type in the CB glomeruli is glomus or type I cells, which is enveloped by processes of sustentacular or type II cells. Growth and neurotrophic factors have been established as signaling molecules played an important role in the development of the CB. To gain insight whether these signaling molecules are present in the adult rat CB, we examined the expression and cellular localization of some neurotrophic factors and their corresponding receptors in this organ by immunohistochemistry. The results showed the presence of nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) as well as p75NTR, tyrosine kinase A receptor (TrkA), tyrosine kinase B receptor (TrkB) and GDNF family receptor alpha1 (GFRα1) in the adult CB. At the light-microscopical level, the immunoreactivity for NGF and both its low-affinity (p75) and high-affinity (TrkA) receptors was detected in the majority of glomus cells and also in a subset of sustentacular cells. BDNF and its receptors, p75 and

Abstract: Background: Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Albania. According to Institute of Statistics of Albania (ISA), CHD remains in the 5 first places caused mortality and morbidity in our country. Currently, all the protocol treatments to Mother Teresa University Hospital (MTUH) are focused on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) as the primary target for risk reduction therapy, followed by triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL). Our clinicians recommend that the intensity and target goals of LDL-C-lowering therapy should be adjusted to individual treatment. The choice of a specific drug from anti hypercholesterolemia class depends on several factors which need to be evaluated better from our health providers. Methods and Findings: Data was collected between 2007 to 2015 at Mother Teresa University Hospital (MTUH), Intensive Care Unit in Cardiology Clinic. 700 patients were treated with statins as follows: Fluvastain 40 mg and 80 mg, Atorvastatin 10 mg and 20 mg, Simvastatin and Rosuvastatin 20 mg. Statins are increased significantly during the years compared with fibrates. Their use grew from 87% of all statin types to 95% in 2015, with different types from fluvastatin in 2007 to atorvastatin being the leading medication in 2015. Coronary Heart Disease, especially Myocardium Infarct, were studied as diseases when meanly the hypolipidic drugs were usually used in medical protocol treatment. Statins and fibrates were the therapy target to be studied when statin dominated the patients’ treatment and fibrates were used in limited quantity. Atorvastatin is now dominating the market, while fluvastatin was on the first statin therapy for several years in the past. Fibrate were used in the modest quantities in value from 2% to 1.5% in years 2007 to 2015. The use of statins in moderate-risk and high-risk patients showed continued growth subsequently, but stable with dosage of atorvastatin 20 mg. Lower statin dosage used was independently associated for all patients, young patients had used high dosage of statins and fluvastatin respectively 40 mg and 80 mg. The missing high dosage of atorvastatin was notable. The values of LDL were improved but not in the level of efficacy of treatment. Conclusion: Statin therapy becomes more selected compared with fibrate. Atorvastatin 20 mg remains the most important stain used in our clinic, but low dosage remains still a problem. The expected level of LDL-C is the target for the practitioners. More aggressive statins such as rosuvastatin start to
