Effects of tetra hydro cannabinol to the dendritc tree and synapses of the accumbens nucleus of wistar rats

Abstract: Cannabis is one of the most widely used intoxicants; almost half of all 18 year olds in the USA and in most European countries admit to having tried it at least once, and ~10% of that age group are regular users. Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the principal psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, produces euphoria and relaxation and impairs motor coordination, time sense, and short term memory. In the hippocampus, CBs inhibit GABA release from a subset of interneurons and inhibit glutamate release from principal neurons. Cannabinoids are reported to produce both rapid and long-term changes in synaptic transmission. Our study was carried out on ten male rats out of which brains of six of them were used as the representative sample for electron microscope analysis, while 4 were used for light microspcopy performed by Golgi method. Three were exposed to THC and 3 were controls. Axodendric synapses in the core and shell of the accumbens nucleus (AN) were studied under electron microscope. The results have shown widening of the synaptic cleft in the shell of AN. This result is a leading point to our further investigations which are going to involve a behavioral component, and different aspects of morphological studies. The effect of pH of the sodium hypochlorite on smear layer removal

Abstract: Introduction. Canal irrigation is an important segment of endodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of 0.5% NaOCl solutions of different pH values on smear layer removal. Material and Methods. Thirty-two freshly extracted single rooted teeth with gangrenous pulp were used in the study. The samples were divided into four groups of eight teeth in each. Four solutions of 0.5% NaOCl having pH values 5, 7, 9 and 12 respectively, were used during chemomechanical instrumentation with hand instruments and using step back technique. SEM analysis was done to assess the quality of smear layer removal in apical, middle and coronal part of root canal. Presence and quantity of smear layer and detritus was quantified using the scale from 1 to 5. Results. SEM analysis results showed similar results for 0.5% NaOCl solutions of different pH values in root canal cleaning with no statistically significant differences. Conclusion. The most effective cleaning root canal was achieved with 0.5% NaOCl solution of pH 5.

Abstract: Substance abuse is the most common group of diseases. Many studies indicate the wide distribution in the general population, which in some areas has epidemic proportions. They often have health, family, professional and social consequences. Especially significant is damage of otorhinolaryngological region, due to specific way of intake. The authors cite studies that indicate harmful effects of some psychoactive substances on the auditory and vestibular apparatus, the nose and paranasal sinuses, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, and other organs of head and neck region. Authors described morphological and structural changes in this region and presented extreme consequences of the mucous membrane, blood vessels and bone, as well as effects of substances on teeth and gingivas.

Abstract: The objective of this research was to impart the additional value on cotton//polyester (Co/PES) fabrics (i.e. antimicrobial properties) to improve the quality of life and thus to tap new markets with the product. In this paper, silver ions were incorporated in Co/PES fabrics by chemisorptions into the fabric previously treated in a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD). A series of the DBD fabric treatments were done in order to determine the most suitable experimental conditions for the DBD activation of the fabric surface, while the optimal conditions for silver ions sorption by Co/PES fabrics were determined by changing sorption conditions. The antimicrobial Co/PES fabrics prepared by dielectric barrier discharge mediated silver deposition show an antimicrobial activity against tested pathogens: S. aureus, E. coli, and C. albicans under in vitro conditions. The obtained results confirm the practicability of the plasma modification process and furthermore show that with some delays in the next step, i.e. silver ion sorption, we can get the increase in the amount of the sorbed silver ions; the maximum sorption capacity of modified Co/PES fabrics was 0.135 mmol of Ag+ ions per gram of a fabric.

Abstract: A new endemic cave-dwelling pseudoscorpion species from the Sesela ka Pe ina Cave, village Seselac, nr. Soko Banja, East Serbia is presented, described and illustrated. Its main morphometric characteristics and important diagnostic features are analyzed and compared to those of its closest congener Neobisium carpaticum (Beier, 1930) from Serbia.

Abstract: A new cavernicolous pseudoscorpion pertaining to the genus Chthonius (Chthonius) C. L. Koch, from Herzegovina (Bosnia-Herzegovina) is erected. Its relations with close congeners are briefly discussed. The new species Chthonius (Chthonius) lupinus n. sp. is an endemic form presently known only from its type locality (Vu ija pe ina Cave, Mt. Leotar, nr. Trebinje, Herzegovina).

Violence against women with disabilities

Abstract: Research have shown that women with disabilities are among the most vulnerable members of our society. Also, research suggested that they are at the same or higher risk of victimization by psychological/ emotional, physical and sexual violence in comparison to women without disabilities. Often perceived as 'easy' target, they easily become victims of violence commited by strangers, but also by persons on whom they physically, emotionally or economically depend: husbands/ intimate partners, family members, friends, acquaintances, caregivers and the institution staff in which they have treatment and/or rehabilitation. Frequently, violence is repeated, while women, who are revictimized more than once, often for years, remain alone. Institutions and organizations which should offer help and support to victims of violence and crime in general, usually fail to respond effectively to needs of victims with disability. The subject of the paper is violence against women with disabilities, whereas purpose is to point out the scope of violence against women with disabilities in the world and region. The author has explored available research about these topic and in addition to the scope, also presented key characteristics of the violence and capability of mainstream services to respond to needs of women with disabilities who have experienced abuse.
Cancer epigenome: A review

Abstract: Cancer genomics that normally relies on mutational analysis of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes has approached its inherent limits. This was not much of a surprise having in mind the genome dynamics and the resulting complexity of cancer phenotype and genotype. In response to this challenge, molecular genetics offered a new armory for the analysis of the genetic basis of cancer. This refers to the analysis of molecular features that regulate gene activity and the analysis of products of this activity. In the focus of tuning transcription is the methylation surveillance of the genome of the cell. Modification of proteins associated with chromatin and methylation of CpG sites in DNA was found to affect profoundly gene expression and is commonly termed epigenomics. Quantitative and qualitative characterization of the methylation profile of the cancer cell genome is formidable but necessary task with great potential for molecular pathology of cancer. There is little doubt that this line of research will add a great deal to the clinical practice and the basic science of oncology. The only question is how to make a large database large enough and how select the most reliable and sensitive technological approach with the highest throughput.
