Gest?o & Produ??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X2012000300004
Abstract: the aim of this study is to describe and analyze the competitive and innovation dynamics of computer equipment and semiconductor industries. hence, it focuses on analyzing how the technological paradigm characterized by modularity configures itself as the major element in the creation of leading technology platforms, which determine the competitive and innovation dynamics in these industries. with regard to the computer equipment industry, it was concluded that the establishment of technology cooperation, the scale effects, and innovation readiness are the main sources of competitive asymmetry. it was also observed that innovation dynamics in this sector is based on modular designs in the semiconductor industry. on the other hand, their technology advances are due to the evolution of (i) the capacity to increase the number of transistors available in a single circuit and (ii) the capacity of creating design standards able to integrate more circuits in a single chip.

Revista Brasileira de Inova??o , 2006,
Abstract: This paper aims at describing the technological activities developed inCampinas information and communication technologies (ICT) cluster and atidentifying the local interactions between agents and institutions. The paperanalyzes the cluster technological development in two periods: from the 1980sto the mid-1990s, and in the period after privatization. It analyzes the transformationsin the collective learning process and in the creation of local innovativecapabilities after the privatization of the Telebrás System and the consolidationof a new institutional framework (Informatics Law). Such analysisshows that these transformations did not imply the end of formal technologicalefforts. The firms' and research institutions' investments in technologicaland innovative activities of the cluster have been maintained, although undergoingtransformations. This fact shows that the activities of important laboratories,R&D departments or research institutes related to local ICT firms aredue, to a great extent, to the existence of an institutional support framework.

Revista Brasileira de Inova??o , 2011,
Abstract: This paper aims to propose a methodology that measures the secondary dimension of software and related services activities. The concept of secondary dimension used in this paper refers to the activities of software and related services performed outside the software industry, ie, the activities of development, production, marketing and support of software and related services that are not made by companies classified as belonging to the sector of software. As a result of this methodology, the paper shows that the activities of software and related services in Brazil in 2005 presented a net operating revenue of approximately R$ 61.12 billion, of which R$ 30.48 billion were generated in the primary dimension and R$ 30.64 billion in the secondary dimension. It also showed that the secondary dimension mostly relies in largesized enterprises (mainly those with 1.000 or more employees) and in the sectors of public administration (23.9% of total), business services (17%), retail (11.1%), post and telecommunications (7.3%), financial intermediation (4.7%) and wholesale trade (3.4%).

Abstract: The global environmental situation has been a concern of several segments of society. Within this scenario, new conceptions have been adopted in order to reach an effective environmental protection, resulting in wide discussions in different political spheres, from local to global levels. These issues include indigenous people and their respective knowledge, discussed through a new approach called ethno conservation, which aims at associating environmental conservation with indigenous knowledge and management of natural resources. Ethno conservation is an area of expertise from ethno science, based in elements of language, culture and biology, in order to understand the meaning and classification of natural resources.As ethno conservation is strongly related with indigenous people and their knowledge there is a need to take these aspects into consideration, in order to understand the contribution of this new approach to environmental conservation.
Influence of high sintering pressure on the microhardness and wear resistance of diamond powder and silicon carbide-based composites
Osipov, Oleksandr Sergueevitch;Skury, Ana Lucia Diegues;Bobrovnitchii, Guerold Sergueevitch;
Materials Research , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14392004000200019
Abstract: the work reported on here involved the development of several samples of "diamond-sic" composite produced under sintering pressures of up to 9.0 gpa at temperatures of up to 1973 7k. the average size of the diamond micropowder crystals used was 40/28 μm. the sintering process was carried out in a 2500-ton hydraulic press equipped with an anvil-type high-pressure device having a toroidal work surface and a central concavity diameter of 20 mm. the microhardness and wear resistance of the samples were found to be dependent on the sintering pressure. the experimental results indicated that the maximum microhardness and minimum wear resistance coefficients of each compact were attained when the pressure applied during sintering exceeded 6.5 gpa. based on the established values of pressure, this study served to identify the types of devices applicable for the manufacture of composite material inserts for a variety of rock drilling applications.
