Abstract: the knee extensor mechanism is a complex structure formed by the quadriceps muscle and tendon, the patella, the patellar tendon and the ligaments that surround and help stabilize the knee. through using a three-dimensional viewing technique on images of the knee extensor apparatus, we aimed to didactically show the structures that compose this bone-muscle-ligament complex. anatomical dissection of the knee with emphasis on the structures of its extensor mechanism was performed, followed by taking photographs using a camera and lenses suitable for simulating human vision, through a technique for constructing three-dimensional images. then, with the aid of appropriate software, pairs of images of the same structure from different angles simulating human vision were overlain with the addition of polarizing layer, thereby completing the construction of an anaglyphic image. the main structures of the knee extensor mechanism could be observed with a three-dimensional effect. among the main benefits relating to this technique, we can highlight that in addition to teaching and studying musculoskeletal anatomy, it has potential use in training for surgical procedures and production of images for diagnostic tests.

Abstract: the amphetamine abuse is a preoccupation of public health authorities all over the world. in brazil, anoretic drugs like fenproporex have been much used. fenproporex is metabolically dealkylated to amphetamine in the human body. in spite of its legal control, it has been abused in the country. different samples have been used to identify the drug in toxicological analyses. hair samples have been proposed recently to identify and study the long-term use of the drug. cg-mg is the technique used to identify amphetamines in hair samples. following a method proposed in specific literature, some studies have been developed to evaluate the application of the fluorescence polarization imunoassay (fpia) to identify amphetamine in hair samples of fenproporex users. the results show that the standard method may be used as screening in the identification of amphetamine by fpia in hair samples of fenproporex users.

Abstract: evolutionary psychology has shown that collective aggression toward out-group members in some specific situations, is part of the human behavioral repertoire. the human mind contains mechanisms designed for the formation of alliances and coalitions. this psychological mechanism, called "us versus them", influences individuals to assume a contrary or a favorable attitude in relation to a given group and may generate violent conflicts. one way whereby this mental process is manifested is through race categorization. the human being uses various cues to categorize groups, among them skin color. this is a plastic and dynamic process, which can change depending on the social context.

Abstract: this article investigates the precision of methods for the load and efficiency estimate of electric motors. the error was determined by the estimate of load and efficiency of electric motors using the arithmetic and geometric average of the currents and the arithmetic average of the power factor in each phase. the importance was shown of the determination of the decrease in the electric motors' performance due to the variation of feeder tension, when the motors' load and performance evaluation in the load condition is performed. it was verified that the estimate of the electric motors' load and performance by the arithmetic average power factor, presented results with larger errors, that is, 24.5% and 2%, respectively. these estimates by the arithmetic and geometric average current method presented similar results to each other and with percentage errors significantly inferior to the previous results, that is, 6.2% and 1%, respectively.

Revista Colombiana de Obstetricia y Ginecología , 2011,
Abstract: introduction: fetal inflammatory response is a condition which is characterized by systemic inflammatory reaction accompanied by biochemical alterations such as raised interleukin 6 (il-6) levels. it was first described over a decade ago and emerged from the need to understand fetal behavior in many known clinical situations. the purpose of this review was to provide the reader with the basis for understanding the entity and thus improve early diagnosis. materials and methods: a review of the pertinent literature from 2000 to 2009 was made by searching medline databases via pubmed, ebsco, ovid and proquest. review articles and original research were included. results: fetuses having premature rupture of membranes (prom) present alterations in passive ventricular filling (e) and atrial contraction (a). such relationship is clinically evaluated by using the e/a formula and the myocardial performance index which is applicable in both ventricles. changes in morphological characteristics regarding waves in doppler evaluation in fetuses suffering prom suggest high distensibility of the left ventricle, especially in fetuses exposed to intraamniotic infection. fetuses which do not manage to change cardiac distensibility may not maintain stroke volume and thus may not achieve suitable cerebral perfusion, thereby creating an ideal microenvironment for alterations to develop in the central nervous system. conclusion: microbial infection and invasion of the amniotic cavity are associated with changes in fetal cardiovascular function, this being mainly consistent with increased ventricular distensibility.

Abstract: Continuing our series of papers on the 3-D structure and accurate distances of Planetary Nebulae (PNe), we present here the results obtained for the planetary nebula NGC\,40. Using data from different sources and wavelengths, we construct 3-D photoionization models and derive the physical quantitities of the ionizing source and nebular gas. The procedure, discussed in detail in the previous papers, consists of the use of 3-D photoionization codes constrained by observational data to derive the three-dimensional nebular structure, physical and chemical characteristics and ionizing star parameters of the objects by simultaneously fitting the integrated line intensities, the density map, the temperature map, and the observed morphologies in different emission lines. For this particular case we combined hydrodynamical simulations with the photoionization scheme in order to obtain self-consistent distributions of density and velocity of the nebular material. Combining the velocity field with the emission line cubes we also obtained the synthetic position-velocity plots that are compared to the observations. Finally, using theoretical evolutionary tracks of intermediate and low mass stars, we derive the mass and age of the central star of NGC\,40 as $(0.567 \pm 0.06)$M$_{\odot}$ and $(5810 \pm 600)$yrs, respectively. The distance obtained from the fitting procedure was $(1150 \pm 120)$pc.

Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1105178
Abstract:
The success of a design of a machine manufacturing line is directly related to the efficiency in the use of raw material and components, requiring a total control of the process. In this work the numerical simulation was applied to analyze the conduction of heat transferred in the Edge gluing machine Smc1 and to validate the simulations with the temperature differences collected experimentally. These validations were performed with the collection of temperatures via thermal imaging, which provides greater accuracy of thermal conduction capture. The results obtained are similar in relation to certain points captured by thermal imaging. The thermal model analyzed represents proximity to the heat distribution during the use of the machine.
