Abstract: Terra Nova, a for-profit social enterprise, helps urban slum dwellers obtain legal title to the land they occupy irregularly. By managing all aspects of the land regularization process, Terra Nova helps community residents purchase the land they live on, formalizing an important asset and catalyzing economic growth. This enables the government to implement much needed infrastructure such as running water, sewer systems, electricity and paved roads. The process offers triple bottom line results (i.e., social, environmental and economic benefits) to these urban slums. It transforms dead asset into capital benefitting all stakeholders: 1) community residents purchase important assets, gain access to credit and are transitioned into the formal economy, 2) governments resolve complex, costly problems associated with urban slums and collect taxes and 3) land owners are compensated for their occupied property. Terra Nova's methodology for sustainable land regularization provides a dignified and empowering solution to formalizing property rights.

Universitas Psychologica , 2012,
Abstract: The following research stands within the framework of cognitive develop- ment psychology. Its purpose is to identify how the revision process works in the re-writings done by ten-year-old children, and the incidence this has on establishing coherence in narrative texts. The qualitative and statistical analysis of three written productions and two conversations held with 30 ten-year-old children enables to identify the different types of incidence that revision has over coherence, as well as the paths followed by children to attain transformations at both structural and discursive levels. Analysis of children’s changes in their written productions allows noticing transfor- mations in coherence and it also helps identify the advances, retreats, oscil- lations, and permanence in the performances. Finally, mental functionings decisive for coherence are identified; the article ends up pointing out the importance of having educational proposals that focus on revision.

NURE Investigación , 2005,
Abstract: Domestic violence is one of the main causes of death and traumatisms, and has become an important public health problem. In the last years, both the number of casualties and formal complaints due to gender-based violence have increased. This problem can be prevented and nurses play an essential role in its diagnosis and prevention due to the close relationship between them and the patients suffering this type of problem. Objective: To explore whether primary care nurses are able to detect gender-based violence.Methodology: In order to explore the professionals’ approach, a qualitative approach based on focus group interviews was designed. The participants’ characteristics were recorded using a specific questionnaire. Results: Domestic violence can be detected in patients who establish a close relationship with Primary Care nurses. In order to get people suffering gender-based violence talk about their problem, a close relationship is mandatory.Discussion: Starting a new life far from the aggressor cannot be defined as the only success criteria for nurses attending people who suffer gender-based violence. Leaving or not the aggressor must be decided only by the victims.

Revista Eletr?nica de Estratégia e Negócios , 2012,
Abstract: This paper investigates the influence of gender, age, income, and possession of a credit card on the impulsivity in e-commerce. The impulse buying is a type of unplanned purchase, defined as a consumer tendency to buy spontaneously, without reflection, in an immediate way, dominated by emotional attraction and absorbed by the promise of instant gratification. The impulse buying phenomenon, associated to the online retail is still relatively new and extremely important. E-commerce has grown by approximately 40% per year, reaching 23 million e-customers in Brazil in 2010. This study was based on a field survey with institutions of higher education in the Greater ABC region of S o Paulo, whose sample consisted of 336 students in undergraduate and postgraduate level. According to the results analysis, the unique variable that showed influence on impulsive behavior in online retail is personal income. This outcome was not noticed in the other variables studied. The impulsivity mean score of the sample was 24,84 points, which could vary between 11 and 77. This suggests that the buying behavior on internet of analyzed students is guidance predominantly non-impulsive.
Sanitary professional’s attention on gender violence seen from battered women perception

NURE Investigación , 2009,
Abstract: Qualitative study whose objective is to know battered women perception regarding sanitary professional’s attention on gender violence in Madrid Community. The results were validated by a triangulation process. Women identified sanitary assistance with those given when there exist physical injuries. However, if we keep questioning about it, they do express to look for something else from the professionals who attended them, although they are not able to say it before them.Somatizations that ill-treatment produces are treated by sanitary professionals without attending to the cause that caused them, and, when it is identified ill-treatment as the cause, rarely sanitary professionals send them to psychologies or psychiatrics. However, this is not identified as a bad practice, because women establish a very defined and rigid function for each professional, where, as they understand, Primary Care doctor will not be required to worry about psychic health and wellbeing of people who attend to their offices. We think, therefore, that it would be recommended that Madrid Community should create a specific health program to attend these women in order to guarantee, this way, a proper attention to people who may be in this situation as well as a minimum quality on the attention they received.

NURE Investigación , 2010,
Abstract: Violence against women in Spain is currently a problem of state public health and of great social concern because of numerous cases of women murdered by their partners or former partners. The objective of this study was to study the perceptions of battered women on health care received. To achieve that aim a qualitative study was developed as the study population were battered women who lived in the Comunidad de Madrid. Data were collected by the performance of focus groups and deep interviews. The women in our study identified health care with assistance provided only in case of physical injuries. Somatizations that abuse occurs were treated by sanitary professionals without addressing the causes that produce them, however, expressed for something more than the professionals who attended, though the women were not able to verbalize to them. The women believed that every healthcare professional has a specific function, therefore, addressed whether mental health professionals without being specialists in this field, was a "matter of luck." It is evident that the actual biopsychosocial concept of health has no draft in the population, or health professionals, making health care was highly valued by them because they solved the specific problems that require assistance.

NURE Investigación , 2008,
Abstract: Objectives: To identify the factors that influence the decisions that battered women make.To analyze how these factors determinate the behaviour of the women who suffer from ill-treatment.To set how these factors influence on the relations that battered women establish with the sanitary professionals who attend to them.Methodology: The study population are battered women who live in Madrid province and who are being attended in the Municipal Points of the Regional Observatory against the Gender Violence. The information was collected by performing focus groups and depth interviews.Outcomes: There are several factors which influence on the decisions that battered women make, like the existence or not of children they have to take care of, the economic dependence and the ignorance of the woman, in some cases, of the existence of this ill-treatment, but over all, we could even say beyond all these, there is one that is the most important, common and we could say it is the main axis that determine their behaviour. This factor is fear.Fear may be considered as a constant and main axis on these women’s life, that influence on the relations that they establish and in the way they do it.Discussion: As sanitary professionals who attend these women we may be aware of the psychological situation they are, and how fear determinate them to make decisions in one way or the other, to be able to identify if the woman is asking us for help when she comes to us, because in many occasions she is not able or does not want to say it openly.
