Enhanced Biohydrogen Production by Accelerating the Hydrolysis of Macromolecular Components of Waste Activated Sludge Using TiO2 Photocatalysis as a Pretreatment  [PDF]

The effects of TiO2 photocatalysis on the hydrolysis of protein of waste activated sludge (WAS) and its biodegradability were investigated in this study. After 12-h UV irradiation, the removal ratio of protein by TiO2 photocatalysis reached 98.1%. The optimal condition for photocatalytic degradation of protein is TiO2 dosage of 5.0 mg·L1 under 2.4 w·m2 UV light irradiation. TiO2 photocatalysis in comparison with other pretreatments obviously accelerated the hydrolysis of WAS and improved the conversion of total COD (tCOD) to soluble COD (sCOD). The sCOD/tCOD ratio of WAS pretreated by TiO2 photocatalysis, UV photolysis and TiO2 adsorption and that of the control were 92.8%, 32.5%, 18.0% and 16.6%, respectively. TiO2 photocatalytic pretreatment accelerated the biohydrogen production from 10-fold diluted WAS. The bioreactors containing UV photolysis and TiO2 adsorption pretreated WASs and the control reactor require 0.5-d, 0.9-d and 0.7-d start-up period for biohydrogen production, respectively. While the bioreactor containing TiO2 photocatalysis pretreated WAS obtained a hydrogen yield of 0.5 mL-H2/g-VS merely after 0.5-d mesophilic fermentation. The cumulative biohydrogen production from TiO2 photocatalysis pretreated WAS during 4-d mesophilic fermentation reached 11.7 mL-H2/g-VS, which was 1.2 times higher than that from the control. TiO2 photocatalytic pretreatment enhanced the biohydrogen production from WAS via accelerating the hydrolysis of its macromolecular components to smaller molecule weight hydrolysates.

Abstract: In this paper, Urumqi Airport time-lapse ground man-made observation data from November 2015 to February 2017, European fine grid (0.25 × 0.25) initial field (20 o’clock) and the forecast field within 24 hours were utilized. From November 2015 to February 2016, the relevant materials were used as research samples (a total of 948 times), and from November 2016 to February 2017 as test samples (a total of 922 times), statistical methods were used to establish the scoring standards. And each relevant element was scored. After the score, the score level range was delineated, and the visibility forecast was performed according to the scope. The conclusions are as follows: 1) European fine grid forecast products are with good correspondence with the visibility of this field are 850 hPa and 2 m high temperature inversion, 850 hPa relative humidity and 850 hPa wind field over the field. 2) Through the statistical analysis of scores, it is defined that the score below 400 is level 4, the score above 1000 is level 1, the difference is significant, and the forecast indication is strong. Level 2 and level 3 are more evenly distributed, with no more concentrated fractions. 3) Applying the test sample to test the above indicators. The forecast accuracy of level 1 is 61.2%, and the forecast accuracy of level 4 is 97.2%, so level 1 and level 4 are expected to obtain better forecast results, which is of practical application value.

Abstract: Ferromagnetic single electron transistors with Al islands and orthogonal ferromagnetic leads (Co) are fabricated using ebeam lithography followed by shadow evaporation techniques. I-V characteristics exhibit typical single electron tunneling effects. Transport measurements performed in external magnetic field show that, when the two ferromagnetic leads are in antiparallel configuration, spin imbalance leads to a suppression of superconductivity.

The robustness of multiplex networks under layer node-based attack

Abstract: From transportation networks to complex infrastructures, and to social and economic networks, a large variety of systems can be described in terms of multiplex networks formed by a set of nodes interacting through different network layers. Network robustness, as one of the most successful application areas of complex networks, has also attracted great interest in both theoretical and empirical researches. However, the vast majority of existing researches mainly focus on the robustness of single-layer networks an interdependent networks, how multiplex networks respond to potential attack is still short of further exploration. Here we study the robustness of multiplex networks under two attack strategies: layer node-based random attack and layer node-based targeted attack. A theoretical analysis framework is proposed to calculate the critical threshold and the size of giant component of multiplex networks when a fraction of layer nodes are removed randomly or intentionally. Via numerous simulations, it is unveiled that the theoretical method can accurately predict the threshold and the size of giant component, irrespective of attack strategies. Moreover, we also compare the robustness of multiplex networks under multiplex node-based attack and layer node-based attack, and find that layer node-based attack makes multiplex networks more vulnerable, regardless of average degree and underlying topology. Our finding may shed new light on the protection of multiplex networks.

Abstract: In this work, LiFePO4/C (LFP/C) cathode materials with superior electrochemical performance have been prepared by coaxial and uniaxial electrospinning method. The electrode materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Also, cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were performed on these materials. The experimental results indicate that the electrochemical properties of LFP/C-C, such as specific capacity, coulombic efficiency, Li+ diffusion coefficient and overpotential are significantly improved. The enhanced electrical conductivity and polarization of the LFP/C-C electrode are mainly due to its porous morphology and amorphous carbon coating layer.
New BaBrCl: Eu2+ phosphors for X-ray image recording

Abstract: Photostimulated luminescence (PSL) is observed in BaBrCl: Eu2+ after X-ray irradiation at room temperature. It is suggested by PSL stimulation spectrum and difference absorption spectrum (DAS) that F centers are formed upon X-ray irradiation and both spectra show two bands which are centered at about 550 nm and 675 nm respectively. This enables the use of semiconductor light-emitting diodes (LED) instead of gas lasers for photostimulation. The PSL intensity increases linearly with X-ray irradiation dose increasing, and the conversion efficiency is 29% that for the standard commercial storage phosphor BaFBr:Eu from Fuji imaging plate.
Protective Effects of Nano-ZnO on the Primary Culture Mice Intestinal Epithelial Cells in in vitro Against Oxidative Injury

Abstract: Nano-ZnO is a new products, which may used to be feed resources. The aim of this study was to exam, whether nano-ZnO is able to protect cell integrity from potential damage by free-radical oxidative injury. A 3x3 factorial experiment was used to investigate the interaction between particle diameter (15, 50 and 100 nm) and concentration (0.4, 1.6 and 6.4 μg mL-1) of the primary culture mice Intestinal Epithelium Cell (IEC) in in vitro. The results indicated that the all the nano-ZnO groups MTT OD value were significantly higher than the perhydrol group (p<0.05) and LDH decreased, but not significant (p>0.05). The MDA content in all the nano-ZnO groups were decreased significant (p<0.01). The SOD and CAT in all nano-ZnO groups were higher than the perhydrol group (p>0.05). The results shown that nano-ZnO released the IEC oxidative injury.
System Level Distributed Cooperative Design of Media SoC Using Application Profiling

Abstract: Heterogeneous multi-core architectures of System-on-Chip can support various embedded real-time applications well. SoC design is very complex for multi-fields experts to collaborate on application analysis, system decision and hw/sw co-design. However, existing SoC design methods and environments can only support human-computer interaction, ignoring the collaboration interaction between multi-field experts. This paper presents a collaborative approach of media SoC design using application profiling. We create a distributed collaborative design environment for system decision engineers, software designers, hardware designers and application developers. The method not only utilizes the advantages of application profiling for SoC design, but also pro-vides a framework for multi-field experts to work collaboratively. Experimental results show that the method effectively improves the quality and speed of media SoC design.
