Solvent-Free Mechanochemical Deprotection of N-Boc Group  [PDF]
Davor Margeti, Mateja ?ud
International Journal of Organic Chemistry (IJOC) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ijoc.2017.72011
Abstract: Boc protection group could be readily removed in a very mild mechanochemical conditions. In a short reaction time, ball milling of Boc-protected amines with p-toluenesulfonic acid in solvent-free conditions affords corresponding amine p-TsOH salts.
Limitations of the Democratic Capacity of the Constitutional System of Bosnia and Herzegovina  [PDF]
Davor Trlin
Beijing Law Review (BLR) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/blr.2017.81006
Abstract: In this paper, author tries to emphasize the fundamental characteristics of the positive-legal status of political regime of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina has applied the model of consociational democracy (all four elements: grand coalition, mutual veto, proportionality and segmental autonomy) which excludes effective participation of citizens in decision-making. The constitutional structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina is dominated by direct democracy. It is also based on the fight of political elites. The paper discusses perspectives of direct democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This paper also focuses on the possibility of merging the civil and ethnic in the functioning of constitutional-political system of Bosnia and Herzegovina. An analysis of the democratic potential of the two most important state bodies for the implementation of any democracy—legislative representative body and the constitutional court will be made.
Surgical and Pathological Characteristics of Papillary Thyroid Cancer in Children and Adolescents
Davor Dzepina
International Journal of Pediatrics , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/125389
Abstract: Background. Thyroid carcinoma is a relatively rare pediatric pathology, comprising around 3% of all childhood tumors. We investigated parameters of tumor aggressiveness, multicentricity, and locoregional metastatic spread patterns in patients up to 18 years of age and made comparison with the older group. All patients were operated upon with total thyroidectomy, with or without lymph-node neck dissection. Results. Patients with papillary carcinoma present with more advanced stage, larger primary tumor, and more commonly present with palpable thyroid and/or neck node. Overall, papillary cancer demonstrated pathological aggressiveness as defined by our criteria in 60%, multicentricity in 40%, and locoregional metastatic foci in 77% of cases. Multicentric tumor foci in both thyroid lobes and tumor aggressiveness were identified as a risk factor for metastatic development. Conclusion. By observing clinicopathological parameters, we demonstrated that papillary thyroid cancer behaves more aggressively in the younger group. We recommend total thyroidectomy with careful intraoperative exploration of thyroid bed and lateral neck in search for possible metastatic spread. In case of positive findings, it is obligatory to perform a standard neck dissection, keeping in mind that neck lymphonodes are primary site of locoregional recurrence. With meticulous attention to technical aspects of operation, perioperative morbidity should be minimal.
On Chirality of the Vorticity of the Universe
Davor Palle
Entropy , 2012, DOI: 10.3390/e14050958
Abstract: The presence of dark energy in the Universe challenges the Einstein’s theory of gravity at cosmic scales. It motivates the inclusion of rotational degrees of freedom in the Einstein–Cartan gravity, representing the minimal and the most natural extension of the General Relativity. One can, consequently, expect the violation of the cosmic isotropy by the rotating Universe. We study chirality of the vorticity of the Universe within the Einstein–Cartan cosmology. The role of the spin of fermion species during the evolution of the Universe is studied by averaged spin densities and Einstein–Cartan equations. It is shown that spin density of the light Majorana neutrinos acts as a seed for vorticity at early stages of the evolution of the Universe. Its chirality can be evaluated in the vicinity of the spacelike infinity. It turns out that vorticity of the Universe has right-handed chirality.
On Dyson-Schwinger equations and the number of fermion families
Palle, Davor
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2007,
Abstract: We study Dyson-Schwinger equations for propagators of Dirac fermions interacting with a massive gauge boson in the ladder approximation. The equations have the form of the coupled nonlinear integral Fredholm equations of the second kind in the spacelike domain. The solutions in the timelike domain are completely defined by evaluations of integrals of the spacelike domain solutions. We solve the equations and analyze the behavior of solutions on the mass of the gauge boson, the coupling constant, and the ultraviolet cutoff. We find that there are at least two solutions for the fixed gauge boson mass, coupling, and the ultraviolet cutoff, thus there are at least two fermion families. The zero-node solution represents the heaviest Dirac fermion state, while the one-node solution is the lighter one. The mass gap between the two families is of the order of magnitude observed in nature.
Posljednji kongres Saveza komunista Jugoslavije: uzroci, tijek i posljedice raspada
Davor Paukovi?
Suvremene Teme : Contemporary Issues , 2008,
Abstract: During the eighties, Yugoslavia was faced with a growing crisis that has put into question the survival of the federation. Conflicting strategies of the future Yugoslavia, based in the republic League of Communists, have finally separated on the 14th LCY extraordinary Congress in January 1990. This article has shown the context in which the Congress was held, as well as its course. In addition, the article exposed the strategies and goals of individual national organizations and the consequences of the collapse of LCY. Extraordinary 14th Congress of the LCY represents an important episode in the process of the breakup of Yugoslavia. On that Congress, all illusions about the united LCY and the power that can bring the country out of the crisis were dispelled. Yugoslavia faced with the more uncertain period after the Congress, without any significant cohesive force that would lead to some kind of compromise.

Elimination of eliminativisms
Davor Pecnjak
Prolegomena , 2002,
Abstract: In this article, the author examines two kinds of eliminativisms in the philosophy of mind – eliminative materialism and functional eliminativism. He shows that mature neuroscience has to explain phenomena which are denoted by the concepts perception , mind or consciousness and that these concepts are not introduced as explanations of something. Consciousness, for example, is a factual phenomenon that should be explained and cannot be eliminated, by eliminative materialism or by functional eliminativism, as an explanandum and as a fact.
Complex Freedom
Davor Pecnjak
Interdisciplinary Description of Complex Systems , 2009,
Abstract: We have a very strong intuition and a very strong feeling that we, as human beings, generally have freedom of the will and freedom of the action. It seems that in most situations we can do this or that; namely, we can do action A or we can refrain from doing action A under the same conditions. The view which argues that this is not an illusion and that we have genuine freedom is the libertarian view. I would like to examine could that view be plausible under scientific understanding of the world. It seems that physical sciences strongly support determinism. Chaos theory and indeterminism in quantum mechanics could not save freedom because chaos is a deterministic theory and indeterminate events in quantum mechanics happen by pure chance. Pure chance is not something we want as freedom. But, perhaps, we can have freedom reconciled (although maybe in a restricted form) if actions or decisions can be described by equations which allow more than one solution and if these solutions can be interpreted as refering to different contents of the will or to different actions.
