Facta Universitatis Series : Physics, Chemistry and Technology , 2009, DOI: 10.2298/fupct0901069n
Abstract: The unsaponifiable and saponifiable constituents from the alcoholic extract of Luffa aegyptiaca fruit (Cucurbitaceae) were investigated by GC-MS. The results showed the presence of hydrocarbons viz., n-tricosane (0.41 %), n-tetracosane (0.83 %), nhexacosane (2.02 %), n-heptacosane (4.88 %), n-octacosane (2.57 %) and fatty acids viz., nanodecane-6-ol (17.65 %), eicosane-6-ol (2.54 %), dieicosane-6-ol (7.85 %), tetraeicosane-6-ol (1.75 %).
Industrial Automation in Ghanaian Industries (The Case of Kumasi Metropolis)
Adejuyigbe S.B.
Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: This study looked at Industrial Automation in Ghanaian Industries using the Kumasi Metropolis as a case study. It was aimed at investigating the various types of industries in the metropolis in terms of operational conditions. Evaluating which ones was Manually Operated, Computer- Aided, Semi-Automated or Fully Automated. And also evaluate the effects of Automation on the companies that are automated and finding out ways of improving the manually operated companies. This was achieved by the administration of questionnaires to ten companies in the metropolis. All the information was compiled and the necessary deductions were made. It was however realized from the research that Ghana need a lot of improvement in the area of automation since about 70%of the companies were manually operated, about 20% used semi-automated process and only about 10% are fully automated. Therefore it can be concluded that the companies in Ghana were not enjoying the benefits of automation such as reduction in scrap, reduced labour cost etc. as witnessed in advanced countries. Hence the clarion call in this study that Manufacturing Industries in Ghana should embrace automation so as to enjoy the benefits of automation to its fullest as witnessed in the developed countries of the world.
Computer Aided Manufacturing of Sand Casting Products
S.B. Adejuyigbe
Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: The research investigates the traditional methods of sand casting processes. It also develops computer software called EASYCAST for manufacturing process of sand casting using computer as an aid. A suitable computer programme was developed to implement the algorithm for the computerization process. A life (two practical) components or products was used to test the validity of the computer software developed. In carrying out this research it was observed that some important facilities to achieve a perfect casting were not available. The manual ways of making pattern and mould which was prominent in the developing world for casting (which was not following the full theory as presented in this research) make the work difficult to achieve. This explains the reason for not reaching the 100% close accurate result to that of EASYCAST Computer Software Manufacturing Model developed in this study which is theory based.
CAD/CAM in Nigerian Manufacturing Industries: The Case of Nigerian Casting Industries
Adejuyigbe, S.B.
Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: This study discussed the application of Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) in Nigerian Casting Industries. Questionnaires were administered in twelve (12) casting industries visited, in Lagos, Osun and Kogi States. The results of the research shows that 42% of the under study had incorporated CAD/CAM into their casting industries, while about 58% has not incorporated CAD/CAM into their operation. The percentages of the expatriate involved in the casting operation in these industries were examined to have about 13% and also the plant ages were examined. The result of the study shows that the use of Computer as an aid in casting industries has greatly improved the casting operation at all sections/stages of production. It was however discovered that about 71% of Nigeria casting industries are still depending on foreign raw material (software packages) because of insufficient software developers that are very few in our developing society.
Combined Horizontal-Vertical loading of Square Foundation in the Offshore Niger Delta of Nigeria
S.B. Akpila
International Journal of Engineering and Technology , 2012,
Abstract: The performance of a square foundation on clay in the offshore Niger Delta subjected to combined horizontal – vertical loading has been attempted .Horizontal forces were evaluated from the impact of varying wave heights on circular piles of 1.0 to 2.0m diameter using available wave height records, while concentric vertical loadings were evaluated from empirical methods of Skempton, Brinch Hanson, and Vesic. The results revealed that sliding failure commenced when the ratio of vertical load to footing area and undrained shear strength (V/Asu) assumes negative values (i.e. at H/Asu > 3.427) and for footing stability, the vertical load should be at least twice the anticipated horizontal load. For foundation with the ratio of footing depth to breadth greater than one ( Df /B>1.0), higher horizontal force of about 10.5 times greater than those for Df /B<1.0 are required to initiate sliding.
Prediction of Offshore Foundation Performance under Combined Horizontal-Moment loading in the Niger Delta of Nigeria
S.B. Akpila
International Journal of Engineering and Technology , 2012,
Abstract: The performance of offshore foundation with varying area, A, on clay in the Niger Delta subjected to combined horizontal – moment load has been studied. Undrained shear strength,su, of soil were evaluated from triaxial test results of offshore soil samples. Horizontal forces were evaluated from the impact of varying wave heights on circular piles from which moment loads, M, were subsequently evaluated. Under pure moment loading, the maximum moment ,Mu, ranged from M of 0.997Mu to 1.00Mu ,but under combined loading, the maximum moment, M of 1.085Mu coincided with a horizontal load ,H, of 0.56Asu for ratio of foundation depth to breadth less than one (Df /B<1). For cases of Df/B>1.0, it is noticed that at zero horizontal load, the ratio of moment to maximum moment is equal to one ((M/Mu=1) irrespective of the foundation size. Under combined loading, the maximum moment capacity occurred at M of 1.0886 Mu and it coincided with a horizontal load, H, of 0.492Asu.
A New Approach to the Treatment of Combined Pathology of Male Sexuality
S.B. Artifexov
Sovremennye Tehnologii v Medicine , 2012,
Abstract: The aim of the investigation is to develop an adequate pathogenetically supported algorithm of correction of combined pathology of male sexuality relying on pathogenetic aspects of its formation. Materials and methods. There were analyzed the treatment results of 120 men with chronic prostatitis, prostatic hyperplasia, and impotency. 60 men received traditional treatment, and 60 men were treated according to the developed algorithm. Results. The proposed algorithm of combined therapy of sexual pathology, including chronic diseases of the prostate gland and sexual dysfunction with primary correction of sexual status taking into account the specificity of pathogenesis in each case was found to be reliably more effective than the attempts to restore sexual status under traditional urologic approaches aimed at minimizing symptoms indicating at first glance a possible organic lesions of the prostate gland.
