An Unusual Anatomical Variation of the Levator Scapulae Muscle Una Variación Anatómica Inusual del Músculo Elevador de la Escápula
Gabriel Varj?o Lima,Richard Halti Cabral,Danilo Leite Andrade,Nayara Soares de Oliveira Lacerda
International Journal of Morphology , 2012,
Abstract: Clinical and surgical importance of the levator scapulae muscle (LSM) requires a better knowledge of its anatomic variation mainly because of the possibility of new findings related to the embryologic development. This article reports a case of a left-sided LSM with atypical attachments in a 58-year-old preserved Caucasian female body. The muscle presented a bifurcation at its midpoint downward path. Its medial band attached to the anterior aspect of the left rhomboideus major muscle while its left band was fixed in the superior angle of the scapula after releasing a muscle expansion to the serratus anterior muscle. The morphometric analysis revealed LSM maximal width of 3.6 cm, bifurcation point located 6.6 cm apart from the C1 vertebral attachment; medial band legth of 5.7 cm and lateral band width of 2.1cm. Regarding anatomic variations of the LSM, they may remain unnoticed or perhaps contribute for pathologic conditions of the neck and the back.

Abstract The present text brings some key points that are characteristics of the current discussions on Sociocultural Animation. It also approaches aspects referring to the field of tourism and it has the pretension of contributing to the reflections on it and simultaneously bringing new elements to observe the tourist experience. The importance of these ideas lies on the need of broadening the debates on Sociocultural Animation and on the possibility of showing the Tourist Animation as a relevant construct to reflections/ intervention. A bibliographical research centered on Sociocultural Animation and Tourism was used as means to this end. At the end, we hope that the proposal of establishing a narrower relation between the two animations does not stimulate the fragmentation of Sociocultural. On the contrary, we hope it will stimulate other fields of knowledge to contribute to the configuration of Sociocultural Animation. Keywords: sociocultural animation; tourism; tourist animation; professional formation.

Abstract: Many processes have been developed with the objective of reducing business costs and increasing the efficiency of these on the market, standing out the Just-in-Time because it’s widely publicized and known. This article aimed to identify with effects the implementation of just-in-time brings about the financial performance of companies. For this we sought along the main national and international literature which impact on performance was found in the practice of just-in-time companies. It was found that the just-in-time is positively related to corporate performance. It was also found that firm size, time of use of just-in-time and their relationships affect this system. We conclude that this research is an important support for students and researchers develop future empirical research by raising and bringing together diverse opinions about the relationship between just-in-time and the financial performance.
Simulation and Control of Turbulence at Tokamaks with Artificial Intelligence Methods  [PDF]

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2012.312234
Abstract: The control of turbulence at tokamaks is very complex problem. The idea is to apply the fuzzy Markovian processes and fuzzy Brownian motions as good approximation of general robust drift kinetic equation. It is obtained by using the artificial neural networks for solving of appropriate advanced control problem. The proof of the appropriate theorem is shown.
Over and Undershot Waterwheels in the 18th Century. Science-Technology Controversy  [PDF]
Danilo Capecchi
Advances in Historical Studies (AHS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ahs.2013.23017
Abstract: The present paper concerns the development of theory and experiments on water wheels in the 18th cen- tury. At that time, as a result of a growing demand for energy, a better understanding of the functioning of watermills, even at the theoretical level, was required in order to improve their efficiency. A hint about the evolution of the theory of wheels in the 19th century is reported also. We have tried to clarify the role played by some protagonists as Antoine Parent, Jean-Charles de Borda and John Smeaton. Their role has not been fully recognised even in contemporary studies. Then some considerations are developed on the relationships between science and technology on this particular subject, concluding that it was a happy and well-balanced marriage.
Epistemology of Greek Harmonics  [PDF]
Danilo Capecchi
Advances in Historical Studies (AHS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ahs.2015.43014
Abstract: Greek harmonics is the theory of the organization of notes with respect to the highness or lowness of their pitches. This was a mathematical science, a thorough knowledge of which was not necessary for the professional musician and was thus cultivated essentially by mathematicians and philosophers. For them, harmonics was mixed mathematics, the mix being between experimental assertions derived from hearing and propositions derived from reason, that was, mathematics. This classification was maintained through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Despite the important role played by harmonics in ancient science, little consideration has been given by historians of science. This study shows that harmonics merits a careful study and that its methods are the same as other sciences. Particular attention was devoted to Ptolemy who applied the same approach to harmonics as he did to astronomy, astrology and geography.
Experiments, Mathematics and Principles of Natural Philosophy in the Epistemology of Giovanni Battista Baliani  [PDF]
Danilo Capecchi
Advances in Historical Studies (AHS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ahs.2017.62006
Abstract: The epistemology of Giovanni Battista Baliani, a leading 17th century Italian scientist, is the focus of this article. In his treatise on motion, De motu naturali gravium solidorum (1638), Baliani’s epistemology was grounded on empirical principlesthe law of the pendulum essentiallyin the footsteps of the old mixed mathematics. In a new edition, De motu naturali gravium solidorum et liquidorum (1646), Baliani changed his approach and grounded his epistemology on principles of natural philosophy with a metaphysical and not empirical evidence. An analysis of Baliani’s writings reveals a tension between his empiricist philosophy, which he maintained throughout his life, and his mathematical approach, which was still based on experience; but on an experience derived from measurements and intrinsically affected by errors, it was hence uncertain. A comparison with Galileo’s epistemology is also made to better understand trends in mathematical physics at the end of the 1600’s.
