Daniella Coetzee
Koers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship , 1994, DOI: 10.4102/koers.v59i2.667
Abstract: Dissatisfaction with education in South Africa has given rise to diverse and politically radical school criticism. The educational views of anti-establishment schools of thought (eg. Marxism-Leninism, neo-Marxism, Contraculture, New Age Movement and the ideas of Paolo Freire) are extremely relevant to the current situation of education in South Africa. This article therefore emphasizes specific anthropological suppositions underlying neo-Marxist culture and critique of society. Although Marxist influence on Emancipatory Education is acknowledged, emphasis is placed on Freudian roots of the neo-Marxist view on education. The influence of the Freudian personality theory on a selection of relevant themes, such as oppression in a capitalist society; politization of education; religion and repression of instincts is underlined. In conclusion it is shown that a school of thought that is based on deterministic suppositions abounds with inherent difficulties and can be regarded as educationally unsound.

Acta literaria , 2004, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-68482004002900007
Abstract: in this contribution, the shared articulation of a latin-american space from the multiplicity of its cultural areas is approached through fernando pessoa?s metaphor of heteronomy. relations between hispanic-america and brazil are especially taken into account. from a structural outlook, both cultural blocks have productive symbolic nucleus which articulate themselves by integrating tensions of our culture in its peripheral conditionings. thus, the construction of an emergent alternative space during the colonial period, as well as the national homogeneity esthetics and the regional-cosmopolitan tensions of modernization give them a sense of "unity" -even if they also show their divergences. today, besides exploring the effect of media on these links, it is interesting to approach -maintaining an overall viewpoint- concrete historical relations established by single travelers and intellectuals such as gabriela mistral. the conclusion is that it is pertinent to examine different spaces of contact between brazil and hispanic-america, such as conceptual delimitations, external axis, travels and frontiers. among these, the amazonian region is profiled as one which is urgent to become acquainted with in order to vindicate its belonging to latin america
Voces del seringal: discursos, lógicas, desgarramientos amazónicos
Literatura y lingüística , 2006, DOI: 10.4067/S0716-58112006000100003
Abstract: in this article we analyze three kind of discourses raised around the boom of amazonian syringe and rubber extraction (c. 1900): the first one epically enlarges the so-called "rubber lords" as "individuating" personalities; the second one, created by intellectuals of the period, denounces the oppression of the workers of the "seringal" and of the native inhabitants; the third one corresponds to direct testimonies of these subjects, as well as to the mythical memories of their communities
Revista Colombiana de Antropología , 2009,
Abstract: this paper analyzes the way in which the political activism developed within an organization of bolivian migrants living in argentina build a bi-national political space. it means a scenario where those migrants where recognized as citizens by authorities of different levels both bolivian and argentinean. the argument lies in a ethnographic description that covers the structure of political opportunities that facilitates the construction of this space, the characteristics of the bolivian migration in the north of the metropolitan area of the city of buenos aires, the trajectory of the organization in relation to the local political scenario and the conformation of alliances between the authorities of different argentine state levels (local, regional, national) based in political parties affinities. finally, there is a discussion about the relevance that the migratory question has gained in the recent years in argentina and bolivia
Atenea (Concepción) , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-04622009000200002
Abstract: in this paper i analyze the novel las noches de carmen miranda (2002) by the chilean writer lucía guerra as part of the imaginary on brazilian actress carmen miranda (1909-1955). as a latin-american icon of international mass culture, carmen miranda develops an esthetics of excess that is recognizable in its over elaborated tropical style. lucía guerra's text incorporates kitsch as a theme, but fails to do the same with the sensibility of a personage that is complex from the point of view both of the historical context and esthetics.
Abstract: in this paper i argue that local stories about the past are not mere descriptions of events but they re-signify, reproducing or transforming, elements of common sense. thus, an analysis that not only regards to their referential issues leads to the comprehension of the various ways in which social agents construct their identity. in this opportunity i refer to the theorical and methodogical framework that i have designed to explain the senses of belonging and forthcoming which local inhabitants of a rural area of the province of catamarca, argentina, articulate in their stories about the past. i also consider the tension that has crossed over the whole research process since i bared in mind the incidence of my own reflexivities not only in the interpretation of the data but also in the construction of the research object.
